How to post images (and some other file types) directly to Boards.ie:

PART 1
1. Click the 'Reply' button (or the 'New Thread' or 'Quote' button, if applicable)
2. Scroll down to 'Additional Options'
3. Click the 'Manage Attachments' button
4. A new window will pop up, entitled 'Manage Attachments'. (There are limits to the types and size of files that can be attached to posts, listed in the lower part of this window)
5. In the Upload File from your Computer section at the top, click the 'Browse' button
6. Another window will pop up, this one entitled 'File Upload'
7. Browse your computer to your chosen image (1 at a time), click on it, and click the 'Open' button
8. The 'File Upload' window will vanish and you'll be back to the 'Manage Attachments' window
9. In the Upload File from your Computer section, click the 'Upload' button
10. The message "Uploading File(s) - Please Wait" will be displayed for a few moments
11. In the 'Manage Attachments' window, a new 'Current Attachments' section will have appeared, containing your image file
12. There's a 'Remove' button beside it, if you change your mind
13. Repeat steps 5-11 to add more files
14. Close the 'Manage Attachments' window
15. You're now back at the 'Additional Options' section of the Reply/New Thread/Quote page.
16. Your file(s) are now listed under 'Attach Files', above the 'Manage Attachments' button
If you hit the 'Submit Reply/Submit New Thread' button now, your files will appear as clickable links in an 'Attached Images' box at the bottom of your post .

PART 2
If you want to display them as images in the post, carry on with this:
1. Right-click on a file as mentioned in step 16 of PART 1 above, and click 'Copy Link Location' (wording may vary a bit, depending on what Internet browser you're using)
2. Click the 'Insert Image' icon in the row of small icons above the text box in which you're composing your post. It's the square yellow one with 2 little triangular mountains and a square sun/moon in it, 6th to the left of the YouTube icon
3. In the little pop up that asks you to "Please enter the URL of your image:", Delete the pre-populated text in the text field, and Paste the text from step 1 above
4. Click the 'OK' button
5. Repeat 1-4 for additional files
6. Click the 'Submit Reply/Submit New Thread' button
That's it, your image(s) should now be displayed in the post.

Try not to break everyone's browser by posting HUGE images; keep the longest side of your image to around 800 pixels and file size under 100KB or so. They'll still display fine in a browser and if anyone wants higher resolution versions, they can be just left as attachments (PART 1) and not posted inline (PART 2).

Rovi, Can I retro post clickable links that I have previous posted from step 2 on to display them as images within the post?

I see what happened:
In PART 2, section 3, 'In the little pop up that asks you to "Please enter the URL of your image:"', the text field is already populated with the first part of the URL link: "http://".
You pasted your link text after that, like this:

This is invalid syntax and gives rise to the error you were seeing.
I'll tweak the instructions to make a note of this.

I've fixed it in your post to make the image display properly, and I've edited the image to make it a bit more browser-friendly :D

It's an excellent picture, by the way!

Yes, provided you do so within the 48 hour cut off time for editing posts, you can go back to a post and do the whole 'Manage Attachments' thing.

350, a lovely bike to drive, way more comfortable than a honda with the independent rear suspension and the stepless gears are nice too. My thumb was ok but driving on rough ground all day I was shook to bits. A really comfortable bike overall and there isint a straight diff in the back either so no tyre scuffing if you like driving a quad sensibly!! Came in at about 4600 new last year but hes vat registered. I think 350 is plenty powerful for nearly anything apart from pulling a manure spreader mabye. I was down your side early this morning, no sign of life anywhere around

how early is early ;) you were probably only coming home from lahinch :D

8 bells, had a bit of manure to spread for the neighbor and couldnt find the spreader in the morning. Turns out your neighbor had it gone with the last week. I hate having to go looking for something like that when I want it!!

Any chance mods that we could make this thread a sticky??

It's now my favorite thread on farm and forestry, and it looks like I'm not the only one!

It's well over the 100,000 posts mark now and creeping up slowly on farming chit chat ;)

Regards and Thanks

Muckit :D

P.S. Could we get a show of hands of all those in favour by 'thanking' this post? (press the 'thumbs up' icon down to right---->

I'm going to vote no!!

Shocking maybe, but I dont think the sticky has done chit chat any favours.

I'd love to know the date it was stickied on, I asked in chit chat but no one answered.

Stickies get ignored by people, this thread is becoming the new chit chat.

Stickies get ignored by people, this thread is becoming the new chit chat.

It was stickied on approximately 11th November 2011. It then had approximately 115 pages of posts. In the interm 4 months, it has gained approximately 94 pages of posts.

It was first established by Whelan on 12 february 2011. Without it being a sticky, it took it ~ 8 months to have 94 pages of posts.

With that reconing, stickying it has far from caused it to be ignored. The post rate on the farming chit chat has approximately doubled since it was turned into a sticky.

Well that answers that.

It seems quieter since, but obviously not.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the breeding of the calf in photo? I wouldn't have a clue myself if I didn't know....

Buffalo?:D

I'd say a CH cross though.

As it happens, since the Chit Chat thread was stickied back in November 2011, it has had just over 1300 new posts.
THIS thread (started in October 2010), has almost exactly the same number (1343, at this moment) in TOTAL.

On the ball Muckit. I think it's 16mm thick, cost about 1.50 per foot +vat. It goes a bit slack in warm weather, but I just wind up the toplink a few turns to tighten it. Big advantage with it is that it is flexible, so if I back into it or tip it with sheargrab there is nothing to bend. I grease it where it meets the pillars about once a month so it should last.
