Yeah I will RMA it. I'm back on the stock cooler for now. I bought it from hardwareversand. CPU is an i5 2500k.

I just thought it's something people who are considering it should be aware of, there seems to be a good few cases of it on different forums.

There's the Merc Stealth from Steelseries, There's the Cyborg keyboards from Saitek to consider as well, and I'm sure Logitech has a few keyboards in your price range. I think the G110 might be, but I'm not sure.

Quick preview of the Logitech Z623...

They're very nice. ridiculous amounts of bass. disproportional even. neighbours wont be happy with them, but they've a handy knob on the satellite to control the level of the sub, so can turn it down when the song gets heavy (I wont). I wouldn't say they're very "loud". my housemate would :D, but im quite deaf it seems and i like to not hear anyone talking shouting to me when im playing music.

Doesn't mean much to me, but they're THX approved, and my untrained ears believe the sound is crystal clear through the lows and mids, not so much the highs. That said im running them off onboard Realtek ALC892 without touching the EQ yet.

plug is a disappointing 2 round prong affair, but i plugged it in anyway, and wont likely get an adapter cause im lazy :P

Havent broken them in yet by any means, but if anyone is interested in an update ill give further impressions at a later stage.

oh lastly, having heard them, I would never pay the €170 RRP for them. that's crazy money for this amateur-ish setup. If you can get them for the €80 i paid, they're a steal.

Logitech is running a promo (not sure if limited to the z623) where you can get the Wireless bluetooth adapter for €9.95 with the speakers. i threw them in cause it was cheap, as i was getting 35% off that price too :P, and wow, im actually really impressed. its going to be the second most awesome audio gadget under €20 ive ever bought, after the Fiio e5. Great range with my phone (Desire HD) where i was walking across the room and it was still crystal clear. takes 2 seconds to hook up (to the phone and the second AUX input on the sub) and as long as the phones BT is on, it automatically steams all the music in your app (im using winamp again after removing Google Music beta) without any modding required.

It's might be best you do, seeing as with circuits designed for Europlugs (like that), the circuit is fused, whereas in our BS system, it's the plug that's fused. It might save you some heartache down the road.

I'm looking to pick up a fan controller soon. Has anyone used any that they would recommend? Or if there are any stinkers to avoid.

It has to fit a single 5.25" optical bay and control 4 fans. I'm leaning towards the new Scythe Kaze master II but looking for alternatives.

    Thanks,
    Moo

Anyone know any small cases - i.e., most likely mini-ITX, that can hold 2 HDDs and an optical drive? An actual PSU size specification would be good too.

I don't need a graphics card or anything like that and it's hard to get one that's built just right.

Have you had a look at Silverstone cases? They have a fairly nice range.

I didn't really look through their site, but saw them around on various sites. Many seem a bit on the big size - the low profile ones and cube form. When there's no additional cards, it seems like a lot of wasted space. I'll take a look at their site tomorrow because I know they've got a bigger selection and I like a good bit of their stuff.

I'd be surprised if you didn't find anything suitable, are you thinking SFF, desktop or tower?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

desktop = horizontal? Yeah, that's what I was looking at first but I wasn't really satisfied with what was available. Too small or too big really.
Many are designed for mATX boards - while I know that you could just put a mini-ITX board in instead, there's a lot of unnecessary size and I don't really want to be modding it for more hard drives.

Then I was thinking of SFF, but again not really the right size. I don't really need a full ATX PSU, something like an SFX PSU would do.

I suppose one option would be to have a small one and an external drive but that would probably be more wasteful electricity-wise.

Depending on what other hardware is to be installed you might even get away with a Pico PSU.

I've seen some low power builds use them without issue.

Wow, that's some small PSUs! I think I'd want something with a few SATA connectors so as I didn't have to power everything externally. I'll have a look through what silverstone have now. At least their PSUs tend to be fairly reliable when they include one.

I'd recommend looking at Lian Li http://lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product04.php?cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64

I built a Mini-ITX i3 with standard size psu using the Q07 a few months ago - thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

I had a look through the silverstones and I couldn't really find anything that I was looking for.

The Lian Lis aren't bad, I was going to go for the Q08 a while back to cut down on the the desktop PC. I think they'd be best if you want a tower replacement, given that most have the full ATX PSU - great for a compact case but a bit oversized for HTPC. The Q09 is just too small though.
The Q07 is a bit smaller than I thought. I don't suppose I could fit 2 3.5'' drives in there somehow?

It would be nice if I could get something like the Thermaltake Element Q, only a little bit bigger.
    http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1321&ID=1896

Apparently, the external 3.5'' space is almost big enough for a hard drive but just a little bit too small. Hmm... maybe I could fit two 2.5'' drives in there or something as well as one 3.5'' and an optical drive.

Something like this if you don't need an optical drive, maybe?

Saw that, it's well laid out but I'd still like the optical drive.

Do as I do and get an external :D

    Maybe?

A bit larger than the thermaltake you linked to but still not too large

That was was nearly right but I thought that it was larger than it looks when you consider that you can fit an mATX board and graphics card in there.

I ended up just getting the very cheap CIT case. I'm replacing the PSU. For now, I'll be fine with just the one 3.5'' HDD and I'll see if I can squeeze any more in there. Hopefully there'll be a few more options on the market by then.

    Price: too much.

I don't think that monitors are very comfortably set btw. Quite far away and very high by the looks of it.
If they would sell it with no monitor stand just as a table/case then it would be quite interesting yoke.

Somebody said 25000 but Im not sure how serious they were. The monitors are terribly placed imo. Mine is very close at all times!

I love that the desk actually has fans built into it, it's actually just a big case, which I do like :D

Indeed, amd there is no surround, it's just slapped on there amd viewing angle should be terrible...

Anyway, anyone know what delivery method complet is using amd how long do they take to deliver?! Ask I'm other thread, but no response. Btw are the Xbox controllers fr pc are the best to get? Or some Logitech are better? Can't play my racing games at all with dm keyboard.

Yeah, xbox controllers are great for pc use. Most games come with xbox controller support out of the box
