I have never seen it for sale except for this one shop. If you search for prepare spaghetti squash on YouTube you'll get a good idea, that's what I went on.
Are you in Dublin? It was get fresh in ballyroan.

DCD... Out of interest have you maintained your low target weight or have you even bothered checking?

I am having a love affair with bacon wrapped around avocado. I hope it ends soon LOL

Where do you guys buy your bacon? Used to grab the Tesco healthy living one but haven't seen it about in a while...

It depends on what I want to do with it. I would love to access non factory farmed pork but that's not always an option.

    Back rashers: my butchers
Steaky: Aldi (this is what I'm wrapping around the avocado ATM)
Shoulder bacon: my friends in the West who sold me a 1/4 pig :-)

Last wednesday I had dropped to 125.4! This weds I'm up to 127.2 but time of the month. I used to weigh at least once a day so once a week is a big step for me :) All my size 12 jeans are now too big and I'm going to sell them all :D

Re bacon I like the Dunnes simply better ones, nice & thick.

    well done ladies.
was at the gym today crying as my pt raised the weights yet again and he said - its this or 2hours walking the bypass and who has time for that?!
so true...heavy things and squats =fast results!
my exercise goal is to be able to do a proper push up and i would LOVE to be able to do a pull up

    Haha, good on him :)
My aim is to do proper pull ups too. I've been training specifically for them and its unreal how quickly the strength improves. Upper body strength is really coming on. There are gym rings in the gym i go to and a month ago I couldnt even keep myself hanging from them; as in with my arms straight by my side. I couldnt even hold my arms by my side if you catch my drift. Tried again this week just to see and it was easy! Couldnt believe it actually. Now its about trying to bend my arms while hanging on :)

Re the chinups though if you can get someone to hold your feet while you hang and then pull yourself up over the bar for a few sets this can really really help. Always important to have a goal me thinks, whether its weightloss or wanting to deadlift 100kg or whatever, its all good:)

I have been wanting a morning snack every day for a week now and it was really starting to annoy me as my eating had become so thoughtless and suddenly there was hunger mid morning which was upsetting the whole apple cart. I know I should (and do) eat when I am hungry/stop when I'm full but I would rather not be hungry mid morning.

The egg thread yesterday made me think about what I'm eating for breakfast & I decided to switch from 3 eggs to 5 this morning. 5.5 hours later I am starting to think about the idea that I am a little hungry. I am so happy that my body fpdoesnt lie any more and that my brain is clear enough to listen to the problem and come up with a solution :-)

So... If you find you are hungry for a morning snack every day don't straight away think of what suitable snacks you can access, perhaps thinks about how to make your breakfast last longer :-)

I really enjoy my post workout morning snack :)

Kale bargain in dunnes this afternoon. RTC to 10c! Got 2 bags.

Dinner today is spaghetti squash carbonara, using the 2nd half of the beast.

Hope you all had a nice weekend. I did a 5k race and then lunch out for mothers day. Had a cheat meal of affogatto for desert in Carluccios but the rest of the meal was primal.

I have asked my veg guy to find me a spaghetti squash. I'll text him tomorrow to see if he has it :-)

PWO snacks are different to "it's 11am and I'm hungry already" snacks.

I made these today - tasty!
    Almond banana pancakes

Was pleased to picck up the Cocowell brand of coconut oil in Dunnes, only €6 for large tub.

had a disaster of a weekend this weekend. Was over in Londond for paddys day and the rugby. Ended up eating crap all weekend and drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Eating primal aint easy especially when you have a few beers on you and the carb cravings kick in!!! grrrrr

Obviously paleo is a fad diet, you can't stick to it longterm :p

    :pac:

I saw it today here too. That's a great price. I have just started a jar (since Jan 4th I've used 1x250g & 2x635g jars) but I'll be into Dunnes for the next jar. I was paying €10.35 for the 635g jar!

So the 5 egg for breakfast experiment is a complete success. I had it this morning, had a small lunch (smoked salmon, peppers, capers, onion & cherry tomatoes) & a small dinner. No hunger! All day long.

When did I stop thinking about food all the time?? Having said that I think I will buy myself a side of smoked salmon :-) LOL

Blame the wheat in the beer! LOL

Dust yourself off & climb back on the horse... Did paleo man ride animals? Maybe not, so... Dust yourself off and get back in the hunt(ing & gathering)

Jason Seib was talking about fruit & it's sugar & made a great point about the fact that natural sweetness is just a safety mechanism to let us know whether something is ripe or not. It made to much sense to me :) it is not sweet to provide us with sweet things, just to stop us from killing ourselves LOL

Actually, most beer isn't brewed with wheat, just barley and maybe corn or rice, though German brewers are fond of their wheat.

The brewing process for lager means that generally very little gluten ends up in the final product so people who are gluten sensitive rather than coeliac should be able to tolerate non-wheat beers pretty well.
E.g. To have a gluten free label you have to have less than 20ppm gluten, beers like Corona, Heineken and Budweiser all have less than 20ppm gluten, however they cannot be labelled so as they don't have gluten-free facilities, which would probably require clinical rework of their factories.

I know that was a throw-away comment but I like my beer (and had to justify myself)!

off to do some research I think

Here's the results from a Swedish study (in Swedish unfortunately)
Guiness tested at 5,000 - 6,000 ppm gluten!

Another study states that "The gluten content in beer is, thus, approximately three orders of magnitude lower than in the raw malt." So for every thousand particles of gluten in the raw malt, one particle will make it through the bewing process

Right, so I'm thinking of going primal. Gonna have a read through the whole thread and then maybe I'll follow this plan!

Just a question first; what's the differences between primal and paleo? I'm guessing the main one is primal allows for butter, eggs and the like whereas paleo doesn't (open to correction obviously)? Anything else?

eggs are paleo, primal allows for some dairy asfaik, think that is the main difference.

Primal can allow for white & red potatoes and rice too.

I got my second "you are looking great" comment today and yet again the dialogue in my head included "wait til you see me in September" when I said "Thank you" LOL

Am trying to start this today. I had a baby in December by c section - unfortunately the surgeon messed it up and i was really ill for about 10 weeks or so after. I'm only really back to myself in the last few weeks but am completely exhausted, my skin is flaking off me, hair falling out and has gone really grey. Gorgeous basically!

I have about 1.5 - 2 stone to lose - I'm about 10lbs heavier than before I got pregnant but I was too heavy then. Going to focus on the 1st stone between now and June. Actually, my first focus is getting some energy and sorting out my skin - hopefully the weightloss will come with it. At the moment I'm too tired to exercise. I try get out every day for a walk but I find myself needing to sit down on a bench half way through. Its horrible! I went to a spinning class a couple of weeks ago and nearly died I was so tired. I don't mean I was out of breath - I was - I mean I just felt so fatigued during and after it. I had my iron levels checked and they were at 7 where they should be around 13 apparently.

Anyway, this week I am cutting out obvious carbs, wheat and sugar and upping veggies. Next week I'll think about dairy. Will really miss tea and coffee without milk so I'm going to leave that in for the moment.

    Today I've had
    Breakfast
150g natural yoghurt - fat free - I bought that one as I'm scared of fat even though I know I shouldn't be.
    Handful of blackberries and raspberries
    Dsp milled linseed
    Dsp pumpkin seeds

Was STARVING 2 hours after having that.

    Lunch
    Large baked breast of Chicken
Cherry Tomato, red pepper and mixed greens salad
    Balsamic and olive oil.

    Snack
    60g Feta
2 cups of tea splash of milk

Not sure what I'm having for dinner - either homemade burger with salad or else pork steak with roast vegetables.

Anything obviously bad in there that you experts can see?

The reason you were starving is because you had a pure carb breakfast. How much protein is there in 150g of FF natural yogurt? I just checked and there is 8 - 10g of protein. I am not recovering from childbirth. Or major abdominal surgery and I have in the region of 42g of protein for breakfast! I was getting hungry 2 hours after 28g for breakfast! And obviously there is no fat in there either. There is 35g in my breakfast and the whole thing lasts me 4+ hours.

Wow ok thanks back to the drawing board with that one! You did the whole30 right? I think that is what I am aiming on doing next week. Just need to get my head around committing to it. As I type this I am thinking why am I waiting another week..

Is it very difficult to do? Apart from the baby I also have my degree finals in 5 weeks - eek! If it isn't outrageously tough maybe it'd actually be worth dedicating myself to following it. What I mean is, the time I would have to spend planning and cooking would probably be less than the time I will waste being exhausted, brain dead and unable to concentrate on study for the next few weeks.

The thing I think I'd find most hard is ideas for breakfast.

congrats on the baby littlefriend and well done on focusing on getting healthier. I'd be starving after that breakfast also! For breakfast most mornings I have a couple of hard boiled eggs and some rashers or make an omelette with spinach and peppers...and really anything i can find. It definitely keeps me ticking over til lunch. The planning does require time - but i'd imagine with a small baby you need to plan your meals/shop anyway? If you can only handle one day at a time, aim to make bigger dinners and have the left over for breakfast - e.g. we did beef taco's for dinner on saturday and i had the left over meat wrapped up in lettuce with some tomatoes for breakfast the next day. this evening i'm cooking chicken pieces and i've a few extra ones to do me for lunch tomorrow. Re: the milk in the tea and coffee i found that very hard also but now (about 6 weeks in ) I have almost stopped drinking coffee and usually drink fruit/herbal teas throughout the day instead - this also means im less likely to want a biscuit with my cuppa!!! The energy levels will lift once you start following the 'rules' (i use the term lightly) - more sleep (hard i know with baby!), no carbs (i focussed on cutting out bread, pasta, gluten products etc first then potatoes and rice). I wouldn't bother with a low-fat yogurt chances are its laden with sugar to give it some flavour! Better off just having the fruit.

Im so proud of myself ...started a new program with my pt last week and did my first romanian deadlift...i almost feel like a proper weight lifter now LOL.

thanks woggie. Well done on the new weight routine. If you keep it up it'll make an amazing difference to your body shape.

Have gotten on better today in terms of food choices I think. I haven't been hungry and I think I feel more energetic already - although I am possibly imagining that! For breakfast I had boiled eggs with some deli ham.

Lunch was a homemade burger with a green salad, toasted pumpkin seeds and cherry tomatoes. Spoon of olive oil and some balsamic as dressing. I also made some guacamole to go with the burger which was nice.

Had no desire to snack during the morning or afternoon which is a marked difference to yesterday (and every other day really).

Baking some salmon for dinner with some roasted vegetables. Need to start thinking about tomorrows menu now.

On January 1st DCD clicked like on the Whole9 FB page and I followed her… she changed my life by clicking “Like” right there at that moment while I was sitting at my laptop and looking at the side bar.  I read the Whole9 site which includes the Whole30 information and thought “WOW! That’s for me. That makes sense.”  The next day was Tuesday and I was in work so I had to decide between starting on the Wednesday or leaving it til the following Monday when the tall boy was going back to school.  I decided it wasn’t a good idea to start something new and be in work the same day so I bit the bullet and started on the Wednesday.

I followed the Whole30 (except for the no preservatives in bacon but I didn’t eat much bacon) for 32.5 days and felt fabulous the whole way through.  I ate wheat on days 33 and 34 and had a headache for 3 days.  I already knew that paleo was the way for me but that confirmed it to me. Today is Day 50 wheat free, Day 83 since I started, and I don’t miss it, or sugar, or beans, or rice, or bread or or or… I love the way I eat… but most of all I love that the Whole30 set me free.  My mother has been (for the most part) Paleo for a month now but still has cravings, still desires but chooses to not eat some things.  I just don’t want to eat them.  I don’t believe that one can be for the most part paleo.  You either are eating paleo or you are not.

    Tough Love Warning…

There is no “get your head around starting”.  There is either “start” or “don’t start”.  Why delay the start of the rest of your life.  A bonus of starting the Whole30 when I did was that I would be finished by my birthday so I could have cake etc.  I ended up cooking a paleo meal for my birthday because I didn’t see any reason to cook anything else.

The time you will spend cooking/planning will be nothing compared with how fabulous you will feel once you have kicked the crap out of your system.  For the first 2 weeks I batch cooked.  I eat todays dinner for lunch tomorrow.  I eat a lot of similar stuff but that doesn’t bother me.  I eat red meat every day.  I eat an astonishing amount of avocados and my mother nearly had heart failure when she heard that I eat 5 eggs for breakfast.

I have lost 21lbs since January 4th, I feel great and as Transform put so nicely… I look really good today

I lost 9.5kg in just under six weeks for a prop bet using a primal diet, calorie counting and (fairly minimal) exercise. I weighed in last night and was almost 2lbs under my target weight so happy days!

Today being the first day in ages that I can cook myself a nice dinner without having to worry to a huge extent about calorie content I'm going to throw the floor open to suggestions on what I should cook myself :D

    Any suggestions?
