Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Who (other than Tralee residents) needs to bypass Tralee. Who? Where? Healy Raes are just crooks. Jesus at least get a decent overall N21 which would serve the towns of T, K and L much better.

    Tralee is in North Kerry. The Healy Rae's represent South/West Kerry.

    Even if the above is 'no', AFAIK the emerging Healy Rae dynasty has some form of political interest in North Kerry.

    I believe the Healy-Rae's are in the contracting business and it's on the public record that their company has done plenty of roadworks for Kerry county council, read what you will into that.

    Don't think it's a new poster thing...just someone with a poor understanding of how to communicate....

    Actually, bypasses of towns usually are more needed by the road users that have no business in bypassed town. If I'm from Listowel and want to go to Killarney/Killorglin/Castleisland, I won't have to go into Tralee. But the residents of Tralee will also benefit with less clogged up streets.

    On Raidio na Gaeltachta local news today it was announced that the bypass project will be officially launched (turn of a sod I presume) next Thursday - August 4th - by Leo Varadkar. They didn't give a source but they normally just read out press releases from local TDs etc.

    ...mind you we learn something new everyday - the N5 is in Cork - did you guys know that? :rolleyes:
    Other national projects going ahead this year include the €98m N5 road project in Cork, the N3 Belturbet Bypass, the N5 Longford Bypass, the N4 Downs Grade Separation project, and the N52 Carrickbridge to Dalystown project.

    ...it'll probably be corrected though! :pac:

    A 6.5 million euro contract ... was signed this afternoon. ... The work, which has already begun is being carried out by local contractors.
    I love the way they sign the contract after the work has already started.

    Some corruption there all right. There is already a small bypass of the town, this additional bypass is only useful for people going from Listowel to Bypass Tralee onto killorglin. All tourists from limerick, dublin can use the main castleisland road. This will not even benefit listowel people going to Dingle. Castleisland is closer going through abbeyfeale. This road will serve almost nobody.

    This money could of done both newmarket and abbeyfeale. It would be interesting to see what contractors or landowners benefit from this strange decision of the previous government. This should of been bottom of the list, shocking how the healy raes could hold the country to ransom.

    They have absolutely none *now*

    There has been occasions where Jackie has been the single vote holding an FF government in power, and being in that position gives the independent in question (Tony Gregory was that independent once) MASSIVE power.

    Under the Public Works Contracts, the contractor has to start onsite within 20 working days of receiving the Letter of Intention, so they may start before the signing of the actual contract document.

    Signage was up a few weeks back always a sign that the scheme is nearing completion.

    I'd be surprised if this passed 10000 AADT when opened on the actual bypass arc. Obviously the best part of the scheme is that Kilarney traffic won't need to use the N21 to access Tralee. This in turn reducing the high AADT at ballyseedy which was originally planned to be a dual carriageway but issues with the wooded area prevented it from being built instead a WS2.

    The Tralee bypass, one of the few major national road projects to be undertaken since the economic downturn, opened today to coincide with the annual Rose of Tralee festival. It is the biggest individual road project undertaken in Co Kerry in recent years.

    Costing €97.3 million, the 30km of the N22/N69 road required 225 acres of land belonging to 78 landowners.

    It connects four of the five national routes – the N21, N22, N69, and N70 – that terminate in Tralee and will take a quarter of the town’s car traffic as well as cutting journey times.

    In 2007 there was €1.75 billion available nationally for road-building but by 2011 this had dropped to €320 million. Tralee got €97 million of this...
