Only four years before The Easter Rising anniversary, and here we are after losing our economic sovereignty, and not a single protest..

Our Prime Minister keeps saying "We will pay our way". But it's not our debt Enda; it's the debt of speculators and gamblers that took massive positions that failed. German and French bond holders etc.

So we just sit here and moan, do sweet feck all about it. The Frech would be up in arms. Our grandchildren will still be paying off this unsustainable debt for years to come.

James Connelly and Padraig Pearce would be turning in their graves. I'm really not sure many here understand that thousands of Irish men and women lost their lives for the freedom and independence of Ireland. The cosy world we live in today, and it's hard to imagine, I guess.

A leading executive in Goldman Sachs resigned this week saying the firm is as toxic and destuctive as ever. A pure shame the way the world is heading. And this week, we learn, the CEO of Bank of Ireland Richie Boucher, was paid €623k last year. Boucher was a senior member of the bank during the boom years, so is partly responsible for the mess. Yet no protests this week.

At least in Iceland the trial of former Icelandic Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, has now begun, on charges of negligence over the 2008 financial crisis.

Do you think Bertie Ahern would ever face trail? Not a chance..

We should hang our heads in shame.

It's all good and well saying that we should hang our heads in shame but the ordinary citizen is the victim.
Mass protesting would make us look like we cared more alright but what good would it really do?
    Connolly

What about him? Or have you pulled the OP up on a single letter..

What has that got to do with the economic reality your country finds itself in? 1916 rising is just a historic moment in Irish history. It isn't going to get you out of the hole you find yourselves in.

James Connolly would be a nightmare in this day and age. I don't think many on here would approve of a Marxist Socialist.

If its not bad enough having the Germans and IMF telling us how to run our country now it's the plastic paddies.

    Something he was fussy over

    and not a single protest..

Pml, well that's gloomy op - and to add more gloominess - I'm watching Terry Wogan on BBC4 talking about what makes Ireland Irish in a positive way, as only he does.

Focus on drink, focus on weather when it's crap in Kerry of all places, focus on every stereotype, and raised eyebrowes of the sleb - even moving statues..lol.. - now there's a tit if ever there was a tit. When one has Terry on there side talking shyte on BBC4, well say no more....there is always somebody who will pay for those who peddle it.

    Speak for yourself please!
I put my money where my mouth is and protest in what ever way I can!
For example: www.unitedpeople.ie (my form of protest - amid many)

We have no power apart from our back balances, which only a handful have much there anyway. The illuminati banks have the control and power. The politicians are just workers for the elite, knowingly or unknowingly. It is a pyramid scheme, nobody knows whos on top but I hear he isn't very nice. :(
Break this pyramid of control how I dont know and everything will become balanced once again, because it is definitely out of balance now. I agree op that many of us aren't as patriotic as we used to be. There are many reasons why.

You know, it's pretty ironic that people were sneering at the Occupy Dame Street people and yet in the same breath they moan and whinge at the state this country finds itself in. The sad thing is that they can't even see the pathetic irony in their disconnect.:(

Sneer at the occupy Dame Street crowd all you like and rejoice in their being removed so as not to look embarrassing in front of the world for the Paddy's Day parade. At least they were actually doing something, making a protest as the humiliating situation this country is in.

But as long as we have the drink to numb us down and dumb us down and keep us nice a docile sure won't it all be grand?

I hardly think a group of people living like vagrants are going to turn the country on it's heels and set it on the course to recovery.

We should hang our heads in shame.

And tell me, OP - what are you doing about it besides moaning over the internet about the lack of effort everyone else is putting in?

I'm sick of these fucking moany arsed, "why is nobody protesting?" type threads. If you feel that angered by it, then go & do something about it besides whinging from behind your shagging keyboard about it.

Should you still hang your head in shame if you know nothing about any of this and don't give a Frenchman's fuçk about it?

Indeed, numb me and dumb me, but Occupy Dame Street wasnt exactly a protest against the situation of this country. And doing something? Well. Theres many of us that dont have time to do so little for so long but by all means criticise our lack of effort compared to the professional protestors trying to rebuild the country from scratch..

The truth is OP, we are all just as pissed off as you with some so far getting away with many things.
SOME will do nothing more than moan - but I have seen (along side me) others in great numbers protesting their opposition to various matters that concerns them, be it governmental, policy issues (fathers rightes - see www.fathers.ie), health issues (Crumlin hospital for me is one - which many here will know why), protesting the cult of Scientology or frankly, the lies and non-actions of our (one after another) governments.

Some might right hang heads with shame - but others ARE out there voicing opposition and protesting.
I dunno about you but I hear about them, often see them daily!
Have you not being even seeing or hearing these protests? What planet are you living on?

What do we owe the 1916 lads anyways? They cashed in on one major hit and fúcked off.

In fairness, it's the utter failure of the media in this country to make the public aware of events that is the reason nothing happens; wholly subservient news organizations breed an apathetic population, and absolutely nothing is going to change (ever) until that does.
