Fun of buying new car fading fast - 30 k budget Boards help please

Long story short, I now do a 600 km commute weekly and need to upgrade to a comfortable and reliable car.

Naeively, I thought getting rid of my own car would be the hardest part but I ended up shifting it in a week. I now am armed with cash (30k budget) but little time and finding it hard to get bang for my buck.

I am 24 so not looking for the old-man exec station wagon yet but having driven a 520d M (old E model) I must say I was sold! Other runner is Audi A5 but for my own (probably stupid) reasons I want a 2010 car at least.

I thought with the way things are generally, any garage or person looking to emigrate would bite my hand off but I dont seem to be getting anywhere, especially on the BMW front which I am more leaning to.

Any opinions or advice

Scirocco diesel. I'm very happy with mine and i do similar mileage.

Your problem is your budgets to low. For 30K your really looking at 1 series BMWs if you dont want older than 2010. Youll have to come down the years if ya want a decent BMW or change to other marques. +1 to a scirocco

My neighbour recently got a stunning 2010 diesel c class merc with amg rims and kit. I think they gave 28k from a dealer, got him down from 30k.

You could go against the grain and buy something a bit rarer, 30k might buy an 11 reg Volvo S60:

But the OP also wants at least 2010.. What devisions above a new vrs with full warranty will he get there?

There must be a new Octavia due anytime soon now, I would not bother with a "new" old type one at this stage to be honest.

If you want a really comfy car for a commute, and are going to hold onto it for a good while, heres an option.
Buy it for 25k, and its a 2012...

Have to say those new Volvo's are great looking, especially the S60 above but if i wanted a newish executive car for that sort of price it would have to be a Saab 9-3 like this one. no-image-large.gif&width=400&height=300

But seen as your only 24 I would say the new Mazda6 Sport would be perfect as a brand new one is under €30,000

Prob a bit like the skoda (I.e. not a runner if you want a BMW) but you'd get a nice 2011 legacy for that money. Bit different. Just an idea.

As you are doing big miles dont buy a new one, in 2yrs you'll have 60k+ on it so itll have over average miles unfortunately its have taken a nice depreciation hit.

If you pick a 2011/2010 with low miles after 2yrs you could have average miles so less of a depn hit and easier to shift.

2 years and another 60k miles on something that possibly have big ( ish ) miles already.!

OP good for you, get a fun car now while you're young and appreciate it. Personally I have a Nov 09 A5 2.0TDI. Love it to bits. Keep an eye on the north, great deals can be got up there, got mine plus VRT for just under 21k last summer

Thanks all the replies...laughing at myself here cos with the exception of the scoda and the scirocco (too small) I actually looked at all the marques and models mentioned.

Maybe just need to look at upping the budget cos I keep come back to an A5 or 520d M. :rolleyes:

OP your only 24. Leave the 5 series till your at least ten years older.
I'm not 24 but if I was i reckon a Golf GTi or anything else like it would be the job.
What about the new Astra GTC coupe?

Know where you're coming from but hate small cars and usually bringing a lot of stuff with me so prefer something bigger.

Exactly.

Audi A4, BMW 520D, Volvo S40, Mazda 6 diesel.

You don't have to spend 30k to get boring yoke's like them.

Your 24 OP.

If you want a boring yoke like an A4 diesel, buy a 07 one for 10k, exact same car and engine as the new one.

Nok1a chap did specify buying a 2011/2010 with low miles

Such cars come with warranties and peace of mind and as he mentioned less of a depreciation hit. Buy new and through 60k miles on it over two years and it will be harder to shift as there will be many similar yokes about with less miles.

A driver seat, is a driver seat.

A big lump of steel like that Jag isn't automatically more comfortable than the Giulietta just because it's big.

Looks comfortable to me and that Jag looks fairly grubby btw, for his 30k he gets a brand new, fresh, cool little sport hatch with pace, handling and economy.

That Jag is 4 years old, grubby and unless he is a big strapping mature looking 24 year old, he look a bit odd in that yoke.

Are you seriously trying to argue that the Jag wouldn't be more comfortable than the Giulietta? There's more to comfort than the seat.

Grubby? are you looking at the same car, that is a seriously comfortable cruiser, and IMO a car that you would want to hold onto for a very long time, I'd say once you hit 2 years of ownership in the alfa you would want a change, esp doing that type of mileage.. That one I posted is a bit over budget but might be others around 30k.

Serious Car for the money, brand new. Very much a young guy looking car. This would definitely sell in a year or two even with high miles for still a strong price. Dont bother with those boring old man saloons that will only sell for about €10,000 in 2 years time.
