It's surely mostly only gay men who get raped by people they know? I've yet to hear of a case ever where a guy has gone to court about being randomly attacked and being raped. Ever. And if they haven't, then where do they get stats like that?

Plus.....even if those stats are all random attacks, there's still only a 0.1% chance you'll be raped in London, it's probably lower in safer places. You're probably more likely to get murdered by Yardie gangs.

You probably never heard of it because prior to the public acceptance that it happens, I doubt many men would readily admit to it.

Come on, how do you think others would react if they said a woman rapped, you, a man? Would the words "get in there" or, as seen in South Park , the words "sweet" come to mind? (one of the lads was abused/shagged by a school teacher, I think it was Butters)

As for being raped by another man, well, you get the idea.

Surely, if young boys are getting abused, does it stop once one turns 18.

Personally, I don't like the way a sporting event was targeted.

Street gangs. Male rape can happen in the form of extended mugging of a random person, or can be a result of turf wars where families or friends of members or witnesses are targeted. I remember reading a British article somewhere: a teenage brother of a former gang member (who was not trusted to keep shtum) was raped to silence the family as the ex-member just did not happen to have any sisters. Apparently a lot of cases where the male victim is reported as beaten should really mean "beaten and raped", often in the form of forced oral sex.
It doesn't go to court because the victims are bullied into silence, or if they report the beating or the mugging, they won't pursue the rape aspect. Statistics are woeful for women, must be much worse for men.

I think it was a good idea. They wanted to reach as many men as possible and knew a large sporting event would draw lots of men in a social setting. I mean, it was only a poster. It's not as if it was a big demonstration or something.

This notion that getting raped by another man makes you "gay", forces a change in your sexuality (if you're a straight male), is dangerous. Men will not come forward in larger numbers to report rape unless there is a bit more understanding. For example, as a poster above pointed out, rape is very often not about sex. It's about power and dominance and controlling the other person against their will.

This is why the stereotype of the american prison system exists. The men who rape are sending a signal to the other men that they are the alpha dog, that they are not to be messed with.
