I always heard he was supposed to be a natural 8 but he's had brilliant games at both 6 & 7. I think he has what it takes to be an excellent 7, maybe not a pure groundhog in the Pocock mould but his counter-rucking and stealing is very good, and he's an excellent ball-carrier too.

Might take another year for us to really see what his strongest position is. If DOC and Butler are going to come through at 6 & 8, I hope it's 7. Though I really think TOD could make it at a very high level even if he is a bit older.

O'Donnell's 25 this summer, he needs to make the step to the first team on a consistent basis from here on out, imo. He looks decent at Pro12 level.

I know... I think he looks good enough but his progress has been stilted by injuries. But Ronan did really up his game this year too, and normally Wallace is ahead of him at 7 so it's not that easy to get gametime. Some sort of rotation policy is needed to develop people like him.

What do people think Minarets fully fit starting back row would be?

    POM, Ronan, Wallace?
    Leamy, Wallace, Coughlan?
    POM, Wallace, Coughlan?

    A lot of depth there.

    6. POM, 7.Wallace, 8.Coughlan

    Leamy on bench.

Coughlan is a very very able 8.

Coughlan has been Munsters most consistent performer the last 2 seasons; great player

With 20 players either injured or not available to train because of their involvement with the national squad, Munster have named a 29 strong squad for the RaboDirect PRO12 game against Newport Gwent Dragons in Rodney Parade on Saturday.

Danny Barnes is missing having sustained a knee injury in the win over Cardiff Blues on Friday but recent signing Save Tokula is named in the squad. Also included are Damien Varley and Denis Hurley, both were in Carton House for the week. Varley was dispatched on Wednesday but Hurley and Simon Zebo an absentee from the Munster squad, remain for until Friday.
    Munster Squad: F Jones, L O'Dea, S Scanlon, J Murphy, D Hurley, S Tokula, L Mafi, I Keatley, S Deasy, T O'Leary, D Williams, C Sheridan, M Horan, W du Preez, S Henry, M Sherry, D Fogarty, D Varley, J Ryan, S Archer, BJ Botha, I Nagle, D Foley, M O'Driscoll, B Holland, T O'Donnell, Dave O'Callaghan, P Butler, J Coughlan,

We're fairly short in the centres now. Looks like Tokula could get a run unless we push Mafi to 13 with Deasy to 12, or bring Johne Murphy into the centres.

I'd like to see O'Dea get a start again. Even his 10 mins against Cardiff was impressive, and he's been flying in the AIL.

Video: Peter Malone - Looks To The Future
    28 February 2012, 5:40 pm
    By The Editor

Former Munster player Peter Malone has recently been appointed Munster Rugby Elite Player Development Manager and will oversee the strategies and long-term objectives of the elite player development pathway in Munster.

Limerick man Malone started his rugby career aged 13 at Bruff RFC and played his schools rugby with St. Enda's Community School and St. Munchin’s College. Malone went on to play in the back row for Garryowen FC in 2001 to 2008 where he captained the side for two seasons and won the Munster Senior Cup, AIL Division 1 and All Ireland Cup in season 2006/2007.
Having earned his first cap with the Ireland U19’s at the World Cup in Wales in 1999, Malone went on to represent his country at Ireland Club and U21 level leading to a development contract with Munster Rugby from 2002 to 2004. In this time he played seven times for his province in the Celtic League.
In 2008 Malone went back to his roots and took up the position as player coach at Bruff RFC where he played a pivotal role in the club’s AIL promotion to Division 1B in 2010. Success continued into the next season when the club won the Munster Senior Cup and All Ireland Cup for the first time in their history.

Anyone know what's wrong with Zebo?? Hope that with no Barnes and Zebo, that LOD will get a run. Anyone know if Scanlon is any good on the wing?

Wouldn't mind seeing Sheridan get a run-out, we're probably going to have to live without TOL and Stringer next year and I'm not sure if I'd have confidence in Williams coming off the bench in HC games.

I agree about Sheridan but I think we'll probably see Stringer back next season.

I think it's a real wait and see for Flannery. I doubt we'll ever see much more of him tbh, he hasn't played consistently since 2009.

Ya he played 7s for New Zealand a couple of years back. He has played for Waikato, but not for the Chiefs as far as I know. I can't recall ever seeing him play, even when I used to watch a bit of 7s, so I can't wait to see how he gets on.

Perpignan have signed Josh Valentine from Narbonne so it looks like their interest in TOL is over.

Have to say I'm happy. While I'm sure he would prefer to be first choice I still prefer him as a backup to Murray than Williams.

Is there anyone else interested in him I wonder?

The last sentence of that piece is brilliant.

I wouldn't call it brilliant at all, unless you revel in the misfortune of Irish players?

If he has priced himself out of a move, and that article I'm sure is not exactly reliable, but IF he has priced himself out of a move, it's hardly misfortune
