Will be carefully choreographed - with NO questions from the media.

    Censorship - or diplomacy?

    Over to you.......

    Well stage managed.
The speeches have been written already (I have no doubt) and the PR exercise's by both states involved will be carefully carried out.

Censorship. Bit more honest than microphone "breakdowns" but still.

I don't see any harm in it. It's a diplomatic visit. They chose Ireland as their single European stopover. There's loads of time for questions about their human rights record etc. Kenny even said that he'll be raising those questions when he visits China soon.

What questions would the media be asking him anyway? I don't remember that Queen or Obama doing any press conferences on their visits.

Isn't this the chap who'll be the successor to Hu Jintao?

I'd like to see him eat in a Chinese restaurant over here.:D

Always amuses me to hear them trot out the "question them about human rights" waffle. As if China gives two shits about what we think. I don't even think Gilmore would have the balls to bring it up. He'll probably be down on his knees grovelling with the begging bowl.

I say lick his arse so much you could crawl up it. Some may see human rights abuses I see trade deals with the biggest emergung market in the world'

Nah, don't bother sending it over.

I'll wait until you put forward your own opinion. It is your thread after all, so it's the least you could do.

The wealthier the wider population of China becomes the more people will agitate for greater freedom and the less the regime will be able to do about it imho.

So we can ease our troubled consciences with empty platitudes. And then move swiftly onto how we can make some money.

Sorry Keith, we're talking about the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland. Easy to get those two confused for foreigners I'll grant you.

What is that supposed to mean?

What is that supposed to mean?

For once in my time on boards I think I actually agree with Keith. As far as I can see he's basically saying that it's pointless for any Irish politican to raise human rights issues with China because the Chinese government couldn't give fcuk.

There is something else he could be implying but I don't think even Keith would say what could also be inferred from his post.

I wouldn't expect Ireland to raise Human Rights issues with China because, tbh, China don't want to take advice from anything not-Chinese.

I don't think that's what Keith was implying though.
