Poll; Would you do 'don't tell the bride'?

Friends of mine are considering applying for this show as they are broke and have been engaged for years and can't think of another way to pay for a wedding.

For those who don't know the show, the couple cannot see each other for 3 weeks and the groom gets €10,000 to plan the wedding in this time. He picks everything including the wedding dress!

I couldn't hand over that much control, would you do it?

What a ridiculous way to spend money. why don't they just get married, ya know in the legal sense, without all the flowers, food, drinks, dresses, suits, presents etc.?

    Is somebody getting married?

God no. Not because I wouldn't hand over control but I'd hate to have such a big deal of the day and have it televised too.
The big day is not for everyone. But it'd be interesting to have the other half plan it all whilst I swan off to Spain for 3 weeks :D

I'd do it because they are going to pay and I think I would do as good a job as anyone at it.

They thought about it but both wanted a big wedding with their friends and family.

Well if they get this the option is open again. That's their thinking on it anyway.

    +1 A licence costs about €50

If their family and friends can't accept that they can't afford a big wedding then feck 'em, I say.

Me and the hubbie discussed this a few times having watched the show - and our opinion was that neither of us would have wanted the pressure and neither of us would have arranged as brilliant a day as we had having arranged it together! So that's a big NO NO NO NO NO

I've seen an episode of this show and the girl did not like the dress the guy got her and refused point blank to go ahead with the wedding unless she got the dress she wanted. She said F you to the idea of the show and went and got the dress she wanted. I think it happens a lot on that show. Nothing else matters as much as the dress apparently and if she hated it she could go and change it.

Ya, a licence is €150 but they are not doing it to keep family and friends happy or because others can't accept it. They genuinely want it for themselves.

This is the main part that I couldn't give over control for. I wouldn't enjoy a normal night out in the wrong dress (not well fitted, not my style etc.) so forget walking up the aisle in one I don't like!!

If the groom has any sense he'd arrive with a Skoda Octavia he's after buying filled to the roof with drink and a dress from the charity shop

Jaysus I hate to see all that money being wasted on one flipping day, and nowadays there's a much bigger chance of it ending in divorce a few years down the line.

Well the average Irish wedding according to recent surveys is €29,000 so 10k is a bit of a bargain these days.

You'd a have the vRS for that :) and with a bit of luck you'd get a good solid 15 years use out of it

Something I've never understood about this programme: why don't the couple agree on what they want before they go on, then the guy can just get all those things and pretend it's all his own idea, and she can act pleasantly surprised.

Hey presto, €10,000 to spend on their dream wedding!

Can someone more with more knowledge of the programme tell me if there's something to stop them doing this?
