Old mercs are fine. Well screwed together cars with tough engines. They just don't have any character. They are all basically the same design just bigger or smaller or with different headlights.

Is it because when the guys that drive them now were younger to own a Merc back then meant you had made it in the world? Mercedes were always expensive in this country.
Where as Mercedes nowadays just doesn't have the kudos in Ireland that it did back in the 70s.

I have to disagree with some of this. I realise my name might suggest I am a Merc fan, and I must admit I even have one at the moment. BUT - old Mercs were superbly built and to be fair Mercedes have always been one manufacturer who have pushed motoring forward - the latest S class has pretty much always showcased some new technology we'll consider standard on run of the mill cars in 10 years time.
My current Merc (it's only my second the first being a classic ) isn't a patch on the equivalent BMW imo btw. My point is, it's nothing to do with perceived prestige in my youth, I like old Mercs because I appreciate the engineering and I think a lot of other car guy's like them for the same reason.

I've seen that Starlet around Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock a lot, its in top nick by the looks of it though I never got a chance to stop and have a proper look at it.

Just wondering how you got the pick of the Trans-Am driving from the outside?:pac:

First five pics were all taken on the same street in Monkstown. The last pic was taken by a friend of a friend and posted on facebook so I 'borrowed' it!

Spotted some form of Porsche (could have been a kit - really don't know) on Thursday evening heading towards Carrigaline in Cork. Tried taking a pic but it was dark so the lights just flooded the lens. Hoooooooge rear spoiler on it and what looked like a 993 front end.

Wierd reg on it though - ZV 60 666 (spaced like that). So I'm guessing it was a recent import and hence the new format of starting with stupidly high numbers?

No, ZV 60666 is a Co Meath 2nd Allocation, so not that recent. 60702-60800 were missed out due the recent change. Co Meath 3rd Allocation starts 60801.

It wouldn't surprise me if Longford Terrace had the highest proportion of classics in the country!

I haven't passed that way in quite a while is that 220 SE Convertible still about ? A real beaut in cracking condition considering it was parked on the sea front regularly !

yes - a bluey silver I think, stunning car, and very unusual to see something so special parked out on the street, owner probably took it to their pad in the South of France !
