Customs charge is €33.60 for me, waiting for pickup at the parcels office in Dublin South. I'll look at the breakdown when I pick it up.

How is the customs charge paid, (laser, CC, cash)?

Customs is Cash/Cheque - it's made up of Vat €27.60 and Post Office Clearance of €6.
    I guess the €27.60 is 23% of €120.

My parcel has an EMS docket from China in a pouch on the front, stuck onto this is the An Post EMS sticker and a Custom Docket. On the back of the package was another pouch with a single CUSTOMS CHARGE document.

The Chinese EMS document shows a postal charge of 434 (yen I guess) ~ 4.2 Euro.

Posted on the 3rd February arrived Dublin on the 13th February.

Must you contact customs ,or do they contact you? how does it work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭rgfuller

When AnPost/EMS deliver to you they will ask for the customs payment before handing over the goods, if you aren't in when they attempt delivery they will leave a docket saying where you can pickup the item and how much the charge is.

Great , thanks for that, it was bugging me.

I don't know if they cover the PO clearance charge of €6, just the VAT.

Ok, I think mine will have customs, but not delivered yet. Seems some got through. I'll have to apply for the refund then.

Got mine today at an additional charge of €33.60.

First impressions are very good and to answer MasterK re: the Wifi, I dont have any problems with it and it is equal to any other WiFi device I have.

So far so good, well worth the money IMHO.

Yep. same here. €33.60 charge for customs. I wonder how many got through. Seems a lot of people are charged.

I tracked mine at the weekend and it had moved from Portlaoise to South Dublin so phoned them Monday and they had received so many that eventually arrived this morning. Got email from Pigsback saying they'd refund VAT - I paid €33.33 cash. DH and dd1 just playing around with it at the moment. So far we can't connect to Netgear, it says connectivity great but doesn't seem to connect. When we press on Connect it says "scanning" then "disconnected" even when we're standing beside the reuter. Also the screen seems to switch itself off after a few seconds. We're not very technical here so maybe doing something wrong. How's everyone else getting on?

Someone in the wireless section may be able to help , but do you have any security set up on your netgear, so that only devices with a certain mac address can connect, this is generally something you would need to have set up or enabled on the netgear, if you did not set that up, that is not the issue

Can other devices connect to netgear, smartphones etc

It may be something to do with the encryption on your netgear, it might be WPa2 , wep (unlikely) WPa etc, ensure your encryption type on tablet mathces the netgear

Put this address http://192.168.1.1 into your browser on a lapttop and or tablet, will let u see encrption etc

Thanks K123456, I will try the options you suggest later and see how I get on. Laptop (Sony) and dds ipods are all fine. We got onto gmail and sent a message to my laptop and I received it so somethings working there. Internet says connected but progress bar on top moves about half way and then says "no data connection" or just says loading....

  • I received mine on Monday. Great gadget as far as I am concerned, only using it for browsing, games etc. Customs charged us 33.60 and pigsback said to post all paperwork to them and that they will refund us. The post office said that they can't give us a receipt as they were collecting on behalf of customs. So they are now contacting customs to send us the receipt to send to us for us to send on to pigsback. Should have our money back for about christmas, I'd say.:) Still, very happy with my purchase.

I got mine too, very, very happy with it. It's an impressive piece of kit for the price. Works fine, no problems at all. All for about €100. Can't complain.

I would imagine you contact Dinodirect they seem to have an RMA process, though you may need to register on their site.

I wouldn't hold my breath on them helping. I've spent about 7 hours in their online chat trying to get some help with the issues I'm having. They are beyond useless. I spent ages describing the problems then on 2 different occasions the rep came back with a picture of the delivery details to confirm it had been delivered. When I informed them that I know it had been delivered but that's not my problem on one occasion they stopped talking to me, on the other the rep replied 'Oh' and that was it. I opened a case with them but haven't heard a thing back.

It will cost you the bulk of €40 to return the item to China, you then run the risk of them telling you there's nothing wrong with it. Even if they do replace it you could then be hit for customs again.

    Colmd123 - Dealrush.ie have tablets for sale 7" is €118 and 8" €156.

Tarah - details of how to get a refund were in the box with the tablet. Otherwise Pigsback/Megadeals should have info on their website.

Jasmine Angry Mechanic - isn't the customs sticker on the box which has the price etc on it enough to send on? thats what I was going to send.

received mine today from dino direct ... not a bad piece of kit . got stung with the customs charge -

fyi all you have to send back to pigsback to get the vat refund is the stamped customs sticker that was on the box and one sheet of the delivery docket .

    :D

Well as far as I understood that is what they asked for and that is what I sent them, along with a copy of the EMS docket.
