not the case as seasons 2 to er..8 I think are still up there with the best comedies ever made. Seaon one was a bit primitive but had its moments.

The one where the family got shock treatment in season one was excellent.

Its one of the best episodes ever, damn right it counts. seasons 8 and 9 had their great episodes too, I think the Sherry Bobbins episode is when it started it descent into the debacle it is today

Homer V the city of New York from season 9 is class aswell.

The older something gets the more you take it for granted. It aired before the internet so most people had a common sense of mainstream media and jokes didn't spread as fast. It also depends on your age when it initially aired. Do you watch any other show that was around this long?

New Simpsons sucks! It just sucks, and no justification will make it not suck so stop it!

This is just an amazing moment from the show, theres more emotion in this few seconds than the last 10 seasons:

(its backwards thanks to fox being assbags when it comes to simpsons clips on youtube)

That episode has just started on Channel 4 now :D

This clip, for me, epitomises the greatness of golden-age Homer. What they have done to this timeless character in the later episodes is nothing short of Greek Tragedy.

What age were you when you when you still liked it. Your tastes change as you age but nostalgia is a powerful emotion.

How come I still find the old episodes just as funny as ever then?

As I grow older I realise that Coronation St is only getting better and better.

How come I don't find season 1 funny? What about nostalgia. How come I don't find season 10 episodes ( 13 years ago) funny?

The episode on Channel 4 now is one of the best ever made :D

Homer fakes his death and where he first meets his mother. So many classic jokes in it. Sad ending with him looking into the stars :(
One of the best endings they've ever had.

I liked the episode where Selma adopts a baby from China from season 16. It had a few funny lines and the classic "emotion" that was in the early seasons.

I lost faith in the Simpsons when I seen the Japan episode - that was terrible.

I like the new simpsons. They did that really funny episode recently, where Mrs Krabapple or whatever her name is was suspended from teaching. And the epsiode with banksy's opening.

the episode where they went to Africa was the end of any good simpsons to me, such a bad episode, you could see the shift from clever writing to just random crap writing in that one. i seem to remember that that episode actually had a decent start

checked which season it was, it was season 12, that season had some decent episodes before the africa one, the one where Homer removes a crayon from his brain was pretty good.

this still makes me laugh even though I've seen it thousands of times. "fiddle-dee-dee..that will require a tetanus shot.."

its the sound of the nail piercing his foot that makes it, the shows makers had this crazy ability to come up with the most horrendous sounding effects for Homers various injuries.

Season 8 is without a doubt the greatest season of any tv show ever made, and the only one I needed to own on DVD. No episode is below excellent

As someone posted earlier the Armin Tamzarian episode was the beginning of the end. There's a handful of decent episodes in seasons 9 and 10 but I stopped watching it after that. Hard to believe that was over ten years ago and it's still going.

The most depressing thing is how the writers use the characters. Their personalities and quirks are so overbearing and one-dimensional compared to how they were depicted in the seasons during the 90s. Perhaps as a result of this they're just not funny anymore. Lisa and Marge are now so god damn annoying... what is up with that excruciating upward inflection in Marge's voice these days?

The Italian Bob from season 17 feels like a pre-season 10 episode and has a lot of good jokes, probably more than the previous 7 seasons.
