Very smart man putting his mobile number up like that in public.

I think it'd have been a bit of a wasted effort if he didn't put his number up

Has anyone called the number? It's just occurred to me that this could be a very fcuking clever piece of viral advertising.

Won't be many new shape MINIs out there with spare wheels, most had a can of tire weld and a compressor.

Never thought of that - either she got rid of the runflats or there's a clever cloggs in marketing at Des Kelly.

Anyone know how much one of those billboards would cost? Remeber the chap who put one up looking for a job last year?

EDIT: €2,000 - I call shenanigans on this, who's gonna spend that on some chick he met at the side of the road?

    Thread title changed accordingly!

lol and he just got a reply: 'Not another ****ing loser' Fairly sure that's not a reply Des Kelly would give :P

If some girl done that for me i'd just hit it and quit it. Anyone that goes to that length for someone they met for the duration of changing a tire has some more crazy shít up their sleeve for the rest of the relationship.

Because nobody has €2k to spare these days putting up a billboard poster in the hope that he might get a date out of it. ;)

    €2 yo yo? 2 hundred/thousand eurrroooos anyone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,733 ✭✭✭oppenheimer1

Obviously a marketing stunt. Its in the hope the media will see this and report the photo/story. Its the michael O'leary school of advertising, do something wacky in order to get your name and product in the papers - for free.

This will be carried in the national press, and all for €2k, seems cheap to me.

Why would they want to report it? all the guy wants is to get in touch with the girl? Even if it means he gets prank calls but he is secretly adversing his tyre garage too!? Its not necessary false marketing advert!?

2 grand is pretty steep even if he does get to des kelly her interiors.

Because its an interesting story on the run up to valentines day. Its the kind of crap people lap up because they want to believe its true.

I'd put my (now almost worthless) house on it that its a stunt.

That yoke wouldn't cost €2k. There's a difference between a billboard and a bit of tarp that you hang from a wall.

More like a marketing stunt by Mini themselves rather than Des Kelly....

This is true. The only reason yer mans job seeker ad cost him two grand was because he hired a spot out in Ballsbridge. The physical ad itself costs sweet fa.

Furthers my belief that this is cheap national exposure for des kelly. Hes done it before too, I remember when he spun the closing of his shops on Sundays as respect for the day of rest. Not because the home improvements market had just gone tits up and it didn't make financial sense to open. He got a fair few column inches out of it too.

Doubtful, MINI have extremely strict guidelines about Guerilla Marketing and how it's done.

But Minis don't actually have spare tyres. They are equipped with run flat tyres.

    Therefore: Shenanigans !

As per my post earlier in the thread, some have run flats, some have normal tires and repair kits, and some do actually have the space saver spare wheel option, but only a tiny few.

I do love my Mini. Nothing thread related here, it's a great car though. :)

I heard a Radio Nova DJ calling the number earlier, it went straight to voicemail; the voicemail message is the guy singing James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend", and then the automated voice comes in and says the voicemail is full.
So if it's real, and not a stunt or whatever, what an idiot.
