Ask the bicycle thiefs to open it for you.

I don't know if this is true, but I heard, somewhere, that if you report it to the guards they have equipment to open the lock.

Otherwise, have proof of ownership, buy a hack saw and write an afternoon off, goodluck.

If it's a padlock you could try to shim it.

If it's a U lock you'll probably just have to break it.

If you have to cut the lock just go to your local Garda station before hand and let them know what the story is. They may be able to help but most likely it'll just save you hassle should they be called to a bike theft happening.

I'd also recommend wearing a fluorescent jacket if cutting the lock, it'll help to stop passer-bys trying to intervene thinking you're a bike thief

    A normal bike lock.
    Normal for where ?

What most places would call normal locks wouldn't last anytime in Dublin.

Who are you going to call ?

Wait for someone to steal it then murder them and take the bike back.

It's always in the last place you look, so start there.

Wouldn't that place then become the first place you look?

No, it'd be the last place, why would you keep looking if you find it? :pac:

A friend of a friend said that he seen a foreigner cycle to a bus stop, get on the bus and just leave the bike on the side of the road. When the driver asked him did he want to bring on the bike he said "No its fine, I'll just get another one off the social welfare". True story.

a few years ago and thats what the AA guy did. it was a big heavy bright yellow security lock thing so for a bike lock it'd prob take less time

I got caught 'stealing' my own bike once in Holland. Some clown had locked his bike through my frame around a pole and left it there two days. I told them this and they asked me how they were to know it was my bike. After a bit of back and forth we agreed that I'd leave it 24 hours and if it was still there I could hack away the lock.
