I think if this episode is going to be 'Soldier' and Bomberman-heavy, it really needs mastering in 7.1 True HD 'Sensurround'. :D

Great docu-movie thing on Netflix about the rise & fall of pinball. The link will be dead unless you can access US content on Netflix. Well worth a watch & be warned, I now officially want a pinball machine, whereas 90mins ago, I'd no interest at all in owning one.

    It's called Special When Lit

There is a nutty multi pinball.machine emulator out there and I have heard folk using a large LCD tv laid flat with another smaller one as the score board, mad as hell but cool.
Of course, with current TV prices you could build one for 500 or so, you'd want to really love pinball though!

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely seek that docu out. Absolutely love pinball. I'd love to own a table but besides the lack of room for one, the TLC and maintenance required to keep them running is a bit of a deal breaker.

I'd love to play Doctor Dude again. Absolutely adored that table. :)

God damn ****ing CDI. I'm not sure what the **** is wrong with it. First the drive wouldn't work whichI thought might be the ribbon cable because it's next to impossible to get into the socket and I'm not even sure if it's fully in. I resoldered all 6 wires to the CD drive then really pushed in the ribbon cable which might have screwed it up. So then it the motor was making horrible grating noises but at least it played a music CD. Wouldn't load a game though and now won't load music CDs as well. Hope the motor isn't burnt out. Going to have to give it another go after lunch, Sauron is home giving out to me about not looking for jobs and the fact that the kitchen is ina mess

In other news Thief Gold is up on GoG. If you haven't played it before I suggest you get on it because it's stupidly good.

Are you sure it's not working correctly? You see, that's the thing about the CD-i, it's as much use broken as it is working.

Well I am going to say that I have just got a Philips CDi 210, I have not yet connected it up to the TV.....Waiting till Halloween so I can scare the c**p out of myself, as it is soooooooo bad a system.....

It is my second one ( yes I am a sucker for pain, I have the Atari Jag and CD drive ):p
The first one hard the issue were it would not read CD's or even spin them. The guy that sold it to me was kind enough to take the system back and swap it for two other systems. I will be collecting the games form him for the Philips system later this week. As I have not been feeling well......for the last few days.

This one spins the disk but as I have said I have not connected it up to the TV yet will do that later.

I will let you know later how I got on ( or if I surived the ordeal ).

What's the best way of emulating the laserdisc games on my cab? Has Mame emulated these to a playable state yet? I know there was a commercial emulator which used to do the likes of Mad Dog McRee at one time...

Thank god. He's getting added to my ignore list when he fixes it, no way I'm listening to how the Zelda CD-i games are misunderstood.

Think I definitely encounter an emulator that could run Space Ace at some stage... had a girls name if I recall.

Isn't there limitations of use with that, ie it won't run some images for licensing reasons or something?

Bloody parents absolutely tore into me and threatened to throw me out of the house. On the up side (or down side if you are Enternow) I have a working CDi 450.

Found out what was wrong with it. The CDi 450 has a magnetic die that rotates freely in an enclosure in the lid of the machine. When the lid is up the CD isn't held to the spindle and causes the grinding noises when it slips, thank god it wasn't the CD motor. However when the lid was closed the new CD drive is about a millimetre out of position and the magnetic die was grinding on the side of the enclosure.

So what I had to do was take the die out of the enclosure and then cut the whole enclosure off, I got it to half size with a saw but it wasn't enough so had to scrap the rest off with a stanly blade. Now I have to manually put the magnetic die on top of the discs before I close the lid but at least it's working.

It's not that difficult of a repair it's just awkward because of:

    1. that ****ing ribbon cable
    2. the stupid magnetic die design.

Going to do a repair guide on my blog soon, I documented the process with pictures and there's no tutorials anywhere on the web for it.

So what games will I play on it tonight?

Nothing, that's what. I don't want to look at that piece of **** for a while. Really wasn't worth the effort.

Why does replacing the laser unit mean you have to do all that though?? Are they different sizes or something?

As for your parents, tell them you've an interview for a new Irish pornographic company that's just being set up. Let them stew on that for a while, having you on the dole will soon appeal to them more.

Best to describe it with pictures:

See the light grey circular thing in the middle of the CD lid. Well that's the magnetic die that sits on top on the CD-rom when the lid is closed. It's free floating there, you can take it out and put it back in. Now it's supposed to rotate freely in the enclosure on the underside of the lid but since my new laser was only a millimetre or two off it was scraping the sides of the enclosure so I had to shave the whole enclosure off. It was as big a pain in the ass as it sounds.

The worst thing is I got a job and starting in 3 weeks. Only a temporary thing but will keep me going. They're just under loads of stress at the moment and me not finished with my research paper isn't helping.

I decided i couldnt be arsed with it and uninstalled it.
