Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

baron, seems like something you should be getting into...

Interesting. Been down that road with them already and didn't get anywhere. The whole student market thing is only of interest when your students have money or you sell spirits. Neither of which are in my favour right now.

Football Manager - it takes over your life. My addictness rating according to the game is "Sleeping is for sissies" and I have played for 8 Days 6 Hours 16 minutes and counting.

i can only imagine what that's like, only because well it occurs to me now that when i was out on the job yesterday the woman asked me could i do anything with her son's PS3 because he was having trouble getting online with the connection- unable to play against other players in games, i took a quick look at it- 'NAT Type 3' over a wireless connection.

i decided quickest thing to do rather than open a ton of ports was to stick the PS3 in the routers DMZ- play on!

    kid happy, mother happier! :D

Onto the fourth book of the Game of Thrones series and am frickin addicted, doesn't help that a work collegue got me reading them and we spend have the day going on about the books.

off to my mams for a proper sunday roast tomorrow before she heads back to her new life abroad. I know I am 30 but who told my mam she could go on hols last easter and only come back for chrimbo and jan before abandoning me again.

there's game of thrones books too? i presume the series is based on those then, i see it advertised on sky the whole time, i just never got into it, there's a lot of these 'epic' series on tv now that you have to watch from first episode series one to have any clue whats going on at all... :(

'the borgias' on sky1 was a series i really thought i'd get into, but for whatever reason i missed one or two episodes, and the whole thing was up in the air, i couldn't follow it at all... :(

It's going to be a series of 7 books (and one of those already is split into 2 parts, so that's at least 8 volumes) so it's a proper epic!

I watched a couple of the borgias and it really wasnt all that good.

Yeah the third book is split into two parts! Its definitely a good read!

Read a trilogy of books there recently by Tom Robb Smith, really addictive, I was hooked. Child 44, The Secret Speech and Agent 6 - would highly recommend them

and just as i was saying there how you had to watch it from series one episode one, GUESS what's just over now on sky atlantic-

yep, game of thrones, series one, episode one! :(

have it series linked anyway to record for episode two, showing on the 5th feb.

that whole 'book splitting' thing though, thats never sat easily with me, they did it with harry potter, they did it with twilight, and now this game of thrones?

i can't tell whether it just smacks of lazy editing on behalf of the author or publishers that they couldn't condense the book down, or was it a marketing ploy to keep people salivating for the next installment and draw more money out of them.

I'm 2/7ths of the way through the first book, i have the first three. The most epic thing about the series isn't the story (which is unreal), it's the length of each book. They're all around 700 pages long.

I want to be starting the second book just before the second season starts in April.

Think the first one I got was CM 00/01 and ended up with a rating of "You should feed the dog" or something like that. Before that, I had been borrowing my neighbours disc at the start of the day, loading it up, giving him back the disc, and playing until my parents told me to turn off the PC.

Probably said a lot about the game that it was entirely text based, and had such crazy long loading times, but you still couldn't stop playing it :D.

Crustacean Caesar, if ya are about maybe you can settle something between me and another Boardsie.

It involves the use of Ni and O as part of surnames in Irish, and yes I know I have left out the fadas :D

I say that O is used when the surname belongs to a male, and that Ni is used when the person is female. So that Daly for example would be O Dalaigh for a fella and Ni Dalaigh for a lady. Yes again the fadas are missing :D

The other Boardsie says that in relation to O and Ni that they are interchangeable and can be used for both men and women.

So given you are An File, and have a pretty good grasp of Irish (kind of obvious from what I can read on the Irish site), who is right in this little debate?

The man with the scouse twang or the one with the Tiobraid Arann brogue.

Really? From the reviews on Amazon the fifth book A Dance With Dragons meant to be worse than the forth A Feast for Crows (which is longer than all 3 of the Lord of the Rings books together (not including appendices)) for dragging on, characters going nowhere slowly. See for your self:

Will have to avoid reading spoilers in the rasslin' forum for a few hours today methinks.

that 'power walking' that some girls do, just noticed it there now as im walking behind my wife- the arms, big wide sweeps! more than one occasion i've been slapped in the cohones when i'd accidentally walk too close! :(

    It's just painful.

    fdbd2843.jpg

Arse of Taxi sticking out and two Taxi's queuing on the right to get into the rank on the left.

Surely, like Galway, they should queue in the EMPTY rank on Sarsfield Street across from Debenhams and when there is room for another car ONLY then they should move. All it needs is taxis drivers to tell each other about the mutual agreement and it will stop them acting like d*ckheads blocking two lanes of traffic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

The traffic wardens or Gardai could grow a set and give them tickets for parking on double yellow lines and the Gardai could do the guy on the right for how he is.

Regular fines might encourage them to use their actual ranks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

Meh' once they see a Garda they will just move on before he gets there. Traffic Wardens will just ignore them. People seem to assume because there are two lanes "What's the problem, you could easily use the other lane".

was over the Punches Cross/Ballinacurra Road/Ballinacurra gardens area when I was at the Greenpark centre earlier.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the guy with a number of guns in his car who first shot at Gardai and then shot himself with another gun out near Newport last night.
