I'm sure a few people might be able to bring mobile internet dongle thingies (I can) to reduce the load, Also generally Less people will show up than will sign, hasn't this always been the case?

Last time a lot of people decided not to go on the final 2 days, saying they couldn't get off work etc. But then again there definitely was not 50 people signed up :P

However, even with people not showing up and less people signing up i still thought the place was quite full, and the only place with space was the BYOC area. So i don't think it would work having everyone in same venue. Especially as most don't know each other, it will be awkward telling people to get off their computer so you can use it.

However i guess if at least two fifths of the people bring their own computers it might be possible.

wireless is not an option there.

downstairs, they have 25 decent working computers with SC2 installed.

    upstairs, there's about 30-40 playstation 3 / xbox setup.
    these all have 28" HDTV's.
    we will be using those.

just bring your PC, VGA Cable, power cables etc.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING A MONITOR!

    they all have ethernet cables.

I suggest you do not allow booking for more than 25 people without their own computer.
Ask those, to pay in advance to avoid some No Show (maybe via paypal, if they cannot meet you beforehand).

I would suggest contacting Blizzard and informing them of the event, since there have been a lot of reports of them blocking IP range when they get a lot of logins over a short period of time.

    already done.

I've signed up but there is a chance I might not be able to make it. I don't affect your numbers though since I am one of the BYOC. I'll let you know for sure closer to the date. I haven't been to one of these LAN's yet!!

I can bring an extra 3 computers to the LAN making that 5 in total. 3 will run it great, 2 laptops will run it fine on "pro" (low) settings ;-) Whoever is using the other stuff will have to provide their own peripherals as I won't have enough.

As I will be driving in it won't be an issue but I will need someone else to help me carry this from the car to the place.
If we split the lan then there might not be any point but you can basically let me know last-minute.

What would really be useful to know though is what kind of video inputs those TVs will take. VGA -> HD looks awful. HDMI cables would be good. DVI -> HDMI cables would be great as they would probably work for anything. I guess I will call the place / go there myself to find out about this.

I can bring my own computer if needed if someone can give me a lift from Thomas St. Its only about 10min away from the venue. I usually cycle in, but a HAF 922 is kinda hard to carry on a bike :pac:

If I'm driving in (which will happen if we need those extra computers) I'm sure I could give you and your machine a lift.

Yes to limiting the users without pc's

No to the paypal, that's too complicated. Just pay on the night, we'll have all the cash on the premises then, and just hand out prizes on the night.

    Ok.

Last time, how many players were able to play starcraft 2 at the same time without any lag?
How long is an average 1vs1 game? 20min?

It takes about an hour for everyone to get patched and logged into bnet. After that, there's usually minimal lag in the actual games.

the problems the last time were the updates/patches.

BUT this time were sorting that before the event. Xios will be bringing the latest version to the manager, and he can load it to all machines.

this will save the headache of 30-40mins downloading the patches.

It will take me about 30 mins to complete signups, collect fee, and enter all details into the tournament program.
once thats done, I can announce the first round, and people can begin playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 safjx

The only thing you have to do is give people the game folder. Installation is not necessary and this bypasses having to patch! ;-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

thats what xios is doing. last time, it took us a long time to copy and paste folders etc over to 30 pc's. so xios will sort it out before the event begins.

Hi guys, any chance of moving the date one week sooner or later (Feb 11 or 25) ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

khaz, no sorry. its already booked.

Orizio, I'm very open to suggestions on map pools, but since it usually starts a spree of abuse, I think ill just take the best TL tournament map pool i can find.

Sinister, prize pool is as follows
*note, this depends 100% on attendance from those who said they will go, and as such, is open to change*

    1v1 tournament
    first place: €150
    second place: €70
    third place: €35
    fourth place: €15

    4v4 monobattle tournament:
    €20 per player

You could just do the prize pool in percentages then adjust the payout accordingly on the day

55%, 25%, 12.5%, 7.5% seems close enough to what you going for

How will the monobattle tourney work? Is it random race and random unit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

    RM, I'd suggest...

    Shattered Temple
    Shakuras Plateau
    Tal'Darim Altar
    Antiga Shipyard
    Metalopolis
    Entombed Valley

Ladder versions natch. Completely boring but uncontroversial, fair and familiar. Six is more then enough maps as well.

monobattle will be random race, random unit, game speed set to ladder speed and teams will be randomly created.
since the 4v4 games last a lot longer, it will be a round robin group playoff, team with most points at the end wins.

You could also have the semi-finals and final using a different map pool for those who are pushing for non-ladder maps. I am guessing that the better players in the group will have played on them?

Good point, you could throw in Daybreak, Dual Sight and Belshir Beach for the semis onwards, if only to keep things interesting.
