Hopefully the family of the murderer, or whoever knows who is responsible, tells the Guards what they need to know to secure a successful prosicution.

How could you not give information over?

Some twisted sense of loyalty or maybe just the pure ignorance of "not talking to the pigs".

Anyone who is capable of doing something like that is an evil cnut, plain and simple.

Info mightn't be worth much without a testimony to accompany it.

There's a perverse hatred on boards.ie for the Roma. I don't understand it, but do a quick search and you will see what people here think of them, so she won't get much sympathy here. I'm pretty sure I remember her knocking around town. Tragic and shocking stuff.

huh  I wouldn't have any fondness for the Roma that's well justified

but that's completely different to brutally raping and murdering a defenceless young girl

no need to confuse people who dislike Roma to be the equivalent of a Nazi

Strange that the Garda appealed to a couple from Wexford to come forward with information. Said that the man and woman had called the police a couple of years earlier and had given details of the murder. Would this not be letting the gang know the identities of people that had informed on them.

what a horrible story.kept as a sex slave and tortured for god knows how long.hate to think what she must of thought and felt during this.death was her release

Was reading earlier that her parents may not be able to afford flying her body home so she may be buried here in Ireland. That must be extremely hard for her family.

Maybe they are making that up to throw the scent away from who actually gave the info.

I would imagine that anyone who informed to the Guards would quite rightly be in fear of their lives...

Maybe they could sieze whatever assets the main culprit has and use these to at least send her body home and have a decent burial.

Was there a reason why she was abducted or was it for their own kicks?

Not that it makes much difference to the poor girl now. When you hear of stories like this you really have to question the mentality of some people, or if they are even human.

The short, desperate life of Mariora Rostas

    http://philipboucherhayes.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/mariora-rostas.jpg
Podcast of my Drivetime report on the murdered teenager.

I have reported from Palestinian refugee camps, the squats of migrant Africans in abandoned railroad warehouses, sink estates in Eastern Europe and drug dens in Central America. I have never been as shocked by somebody’s living conditions, though until I went to Donabate in North Dublin yesterday.
Mariora Rostas was one of fifteen children born in Timisoara in Romania to Mariora and Dimitru Rostas. The extended Rostas family were among those who took up residence in 2007 in the roundabout at the Ballymun intersection of the M50. But the parents of the murdered Roma eighteen year old didn’t travel here until the end of that year after the majority had already been repatriated. Mariora stayed at home to look after her younger brothers and sisters while her parents came her to beg.
Mariora snr and Dumitru would have been very far removed from those in the Roma community who live a life of luxury off the proceeds of begging. Dumitru was a horse dealer, and not very successful at it. However bad things were in Romania they would want to have been awful to be an improvement on where they found themselves living when they got here.
The abandoned bungalow on the outskirts of Donabate is of course not a worse place to live than a refugee camp. There was no running water, toilet, electricity, light, flooring or furniture. Rubble has been bulldozed up to the back of the house to deny access, it has burst through all the windows. Rainwater runs freely down the wall. I couldn’t see the hand in front of my face it was so dark.
I found it shocking because this is how Mariora lived for the last three weeks of her life. The circumstances of her disappearance and death are pretty distressing. But the conditions of the life she was born into, and had no chance of escaping are worth dwelling on too. Particularly as all of the more prurient and less charitable things that were reported four years ago have turned out to be unfounded.
Have a listen to the podcast for a more complete insight into how Mariora lived while she was here, and a hopefully restrained glimpse into how she died.

    Hopefully the murderer gets prosecuted.

At a guess, I think she would have been held captive and used as a prostitute in some brothel.

She was an attractive girl so I imagine that's what motivation was for the scum that took her.

I don't support it, but if there's ever an argument for the death penalty, this is about as convincing as it's going to get for me. This has to be a whole life tarrif sentence. Predators like this should never, ever be released. I personally hope these f****** meet a grim end.

What is it with the confusion regarding her racial identity. She was Roma, not Romanian.

Roma, Romanian, it doesn't really matter.

    From the RTE Website.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0123/rostasm.html

"Gardaí investigating the disappearance of an 18-year-old Romanian girl four years ago have found unidentified human remains during a search operation in Co Wicklow."

Whatever she was, I think the main headline is what is important.
"Human remains found in Co Wicklow search"

Yes, it does. I know plenty of actual Romainians, they despise Roma. It just shows the pure ignorance of RTE and the media in this matter. Roma are prevelent all across Eastern Europe and make Irish Travellers look like saints.

All the more sad that her family cannot be contacted.

I hope those responsible endure a long slow decsent into hell.

I don't really want to go down this road but if she was born a 'Roma' in Romania, was she

    A: Roma
    B: Romanian

Whatever you believe, I don't really think you should try and drag this thread into a Roma bashing one.

Speaks buckets about her family. I wouldn't use "sad" as the description for that state of affairs.

Oh FCUK OFF. Yeah, like if a Roma came knocking on your grandads door asking for a favour you wouldnt put up a red flag. Honestly, you are pathetic. They are nearly as bad as our travellers, their only advantage over them seems to be they prefer to con and trick the elderly, rather than use excessive physical violence against them. I guess tricking old people out of their money is slightly nicer than kicking their heads in like the Irish travellers seem to prefer. The Roma- a grand bunch of lads.

Dont understand it, grow the fcuk up. FFS this girls own family sent her to the slaughter.

Not really. As said they are more con artists than grossly violent. Ours are pure evil.

Another slight plus point- Ive known of two Roma in Ireland who had jobs. Never in my life have I met an Irish traveller in paid employment.

An 18 year old girl has been viciously murdered and left in the mountains for 4 years and all people on this thread can do is Roma-bash?

I worry for this country sometimes, I really do. Although part of me really is not surprised at the insentivity being shown.

Regardless of her nationality Marioara did not deserve to die like this.

Some people here really need to cop on to themselves.

    RIP Marioara.

Absolutely tragic story. may she RIP.

I don't get why ethnicity even comes into it. She was a human being.

Only here three weeks and then brutalised and buried in a shallow grave. Absolutely sickening that any person should have to endure that.

She had her whole life ahead of her. That is so, so heartbreaking.

So the press should only refer to people from their ethnic background as opposed to their nationality?

That's like saying that if a traveller from Mayo gets killed in Spain, the Spanish press should only mention that he's a traveller and not mention that he's Irish.

She's Roma and from Romania. Her nationality should be mentioned first not her ethnic background.

The fact that there are Roma from all over Eastern Europe doesn't negate the fact that this particular girl was from Romania.

I've just caught snippets of news over the last few days & I didn't get that impression at all.

There I was thinking that some complete and utter scumbag abducted and murdered her.

Now I know it was her family to blame!

Thanks for clearing that one up Father.
