Good Friday is not a Public Holiday in Ireland

And never should be in an all inclusive society.

I was just thinking about this the other day and I too think it should be moved towards the summer months. Ok so this is how I see it St.patrciks day should be turned into a sort of national holiday about a week long,3 days before and 3 after the big day.St.patricks day should be turned into a huge irish event that will attract lots of tourists worldwide. Call it irish heritage festival, shops ,streets, houses put up decorations like you would in halloween, xmas and make a big deal of it ,whole city up in beautiful lights and decorations. Big festivals, parades, concerts by the big artists, music festivals, big markets of all kinds, food fairs, street performers all over the city, free shows, people dress up, fireworks displays, lots of drink , all week long.eat loads of yummy food. People try to speak irish too.
Make it a really fun week and all the kids and teenagers would be off school because itd be during summer and adults could still go out and have a great night after work. us and canada gets thanksgiving, and seeing as we dont I think we should get a worthy replacement not just a one day event but a whole week long holiday. Oh ye and paddys day should get a traditional dinner like the way you eat a special dinner on xmas. any ideas what the special paddys day dinner should, maybe brussel sprouts:p
just a suggestion, I think its be cool:)

For food a traditional Irish stew..................time to show the world and ourselves how to make a really good one. And for drink.....something new... Gaelic Tay......tea, good whiskey, honey and cream.

Let's move St.Patrick's Day from spring into summer.

    Why?

    1)Better weather.

    2) Enough holidays around Easter anyway!

    3) Too long a period in summer without a public holiday........first Monday in June to the first Monday in August.

New suggested date 12th.July. Both traditions and all people on the island of Ireland to celebrate a New National Day on the same day..............and let's have a new name for it ..........America has a Thanksgiving Day............let's us have a Forgiveness Day.

Sure if St. Patrick could move all the snakes out of Ireland, then I guess we can move his feast day a bit.

Abolish the day completely and just make up a new saint, St. Get The Fuck drunk. 21st of June sounds good.

The Troika just rang and it's cancelled this year anyway.

I think the 12th of July is a great idea for an extra public holiday. Move the August holiday to the end of the month and you have three evenly spaced out holidays during the summer (or what passes for summer here anyway).

Can't do Bastille Day - Sarkozy hates us.

Keep it as it is. Don't want it being on the 12th of July. That would not be right.

The feast day of St. Patrick can be and has been moved by the Church to avoid a conflict with Holy Week. Having said that I don’t think it should be.

Definitely the 12th, we could sit back and watch the hilarity ensue as these lads bump into this.
Now that would be something to open the popcorn for. :)

June to Aug is too long...????

By your plan - what about Jan 1st to Easter (which can be April 25th!)

Long Christmas and New year break next major holiday Easter. Not a good time of the year to organize festivals indoor or outdoors. A great national celebration in the middle of July would be an enormous boost to the tourist industry and of course it would be a big attraction to returning emigrants.

Absolutely not, I won't be denied the simple pleasure of watching hot American cheerleaders shiver shimmy their way down O' Connell St. all 'pert' on account of it being a bit nippley out.... :D

But they're those followers of that English association football game, Paddy's day is the laughing, smiling, happy go lucky non footbally Irish people dancing and cavorting on the streets with a joyous and gay abandon.

Get rid of it. Have a national pride day sometime in June instead. We need to move away from religious icons.
