Billy Cundiff probably can't believe that someone managed to mess up even worse than he did earlier.

    Really tough on the niners

    Bring on Eli though!

Bit of a shame both games came down to mistakes, both were still good contests.

    Now payback for 08

This is now a very special Superbowl, chance for Tom Terrific to take the record for most playoff victories, his fourth ring and to avenge the horrible end to the unbeaten regular season.

You could clearly lipread Tynes shouting "We're going to the ****ing super bowl!" after the kick there lol

Considering he messed up twice it was way worse. He gifted the Giants 10 points that they didn't look like scoring otherwise.

Cundiff had a terrible miss but it was still only to bring the game into OT. They might still have lost.

That was way worse than Cundiff, he made 2 monumental mistakes. The 49ers win in regulation otherwise.

The Giants are going to the Superbowl! They came, they saw and they conquered. From East to West

Loved the way Coughlin brushed Eli off when they were running out of time on the play clock!

Great game, two strong teams, as cliche as it may be, neither one deserved to lose!

San Fransisco have a good future though, great turn around this year, solid team and coaching staff!

Glad it is the Giants who won though, hopefully we're in for a cracker now! I wanted this game or the Harbowl and I'll happily take this!

Going to be some build up and atmosphere around here!

Oh Man, I cant believe it. After the satrt of the season with constant defensive injuries, and a crappy running game and especially after that Washington game a few weeks ago, I could never have believe the Giants would pull everything together at the right time.

I must say though, they were only given this chance by a very weak NFC East division this year. I never thought the Eagles would collapse so much.

But FK it now.. another superbowl. Brilliant!

And in the other corner we have Eli looking to become the big man in the Manning family, defend his brother's honour against his archrival in the Colts' backyard and lock up a HOF berth alongside his brother as well as a coach who was twice embattled and considered for the chop who now could cement his legacy and match Parcells in Big Blue. All while proving Superbowl 42 was not a fluke

The build up to this Superbowl is going to be amazing, as is the game naturally. Can't wait.

Ray Lewis says he's "absolutely not" retiring and will be back next season.

Cracking superbowl lined up. Going to have to root for the Giants again, seeing as Superbowl 42 was the first one I watch fully and I have fond memories of it. Also, I BELIEVE IN ELI :D

I'd worry more about Ed Reed tbh, he's more crucial to their defence and all. They are tantalisingly close though, if he can be convinced to stick around for another year or two they'll probably take it home. Another target for Flacco and a CB, there'd be no holes on that team. The Steelers are in decline(that said, they're well ran enough that they could re-right the ship in an offseason or two), the Colts are finished and a superbowl defeat would be a serious blow to the Pats imo. Even should they win i dunno would they retain. The reason i mention those teams? They're the only 3 teams to represent the AFC in the Superbowl since 2004.

one of my favourite NFL blogs (written by a steelers fan afaik) reacts to the cundiff miss:

    Shank so hard university

Incredible game last night, ecstatic that the Giants won. It could take me a while to recover

    CB is more then fine

Ladarius Webb, Cary Williams, Jimmy Smith, Chris Carr,Danny Gorrer,Chykie Brown in that order
Chris Carr is the only one on a big contract
    Dominique Foxworth will be cut

Oline is where the problems are
    CB depth is strong

was under the impression the core was a bit average, no? if ye were able to make a play for bailey/aso last offseason it would have been huge though.

where's the problem on OL? Thought McKinnie, Oher and Yanda were all more than solid? Truth be told it's a very complete team

McKinnie LT is adequate but a long term solution is needed.
Thought Jared Gaither was going to be with the team for the next decade but he got injured, then fell out of condition, John Harbaugh put in the doghouse and he eventually got cut. Went to the Chiefs and got cut. Went to the Raiders and their medical staff rejected him. Went to the Chargers and looked like an all-pro. I fear the team have given up a franchise LT :(

Ben Grubbs LG is a star and will be locked up this offseason, pay da man

Matt Birk C is not coming back and heading for retirement. Andre Gurode may stay a year, not sure but a long term center is needed

Marshall Yanda RG is one of the best in the business and is locked up. But did poorly last night

Michael Oher RT is very, very average and I think he'll be released once his contract ends at the end of next season. Infuriating false starts, dumb mistakes and no way playing like a first round pick. Fans are turning on him

Jah Reid RT, a third round pick and Justin Boren LG, UDFA behind that.

Depth is razor thin and there are needs to be addressed

Best to address it now rather then scrambling for emergency FA signings in August as they did this season

Got Giants at 25/1 before the Falcons game so i hope to god they win! Hopefully now fans in the big apples will give Tom some respect and stop asking for his head every year!

Didnt get to see the game but will do this evening one thing sticks out is obv Cundiff missing the FG but Evans also dropping a TD should be giving more of the bad schtick than Cundiff! Looking forward to this later!

Well that game was the worst possible way to lose a game.

I've got a really empty feeling this morning and to be honest I don't care who wins the super bowl now, just seems irrelevant.

So many what-if's, Kyle Williams will ship most of the blame but in my mind he is only trying to make a play on that punt return and he's only filling in for Ted Ginn, but the first muffed punt was inexcusable really, he waves everyone away and keeps moving towards the ball

So 10 of the Giants points came from those 2 punts...I would have thought if special teams was to be the difference then the 49ers would have come out on top.

Really though I think the game was lost on offense. Alex Smith seemed to have regressed since the Saints game, not pulling the trigger unless his receiver was wide open, apart from the 2 big plays, they really did nothing on offense, failed to convert on 3rd down time after time (their only conversion coming in the last play of regulation).

The Offensive play calling was puzzling to say the least with the niners essentially abandoning the running game in the 4th quarter when they probably needed it most and seemingly calling the same plays in consecutive series.

And what about Crabtree, didn't show up at all in the 2 playoff games and has some serious questions to answer now. I think we really need to strengthen at WR in the off season. As ESPN point out

"Williams, Michael Crabtree, Ginn and Brett Swain combined to catch eight passes for 51 yards on 29 targets in two playoff games. That is unacceptable. "
Obviously the defense was superb again and those guy's didn't deserve to go out like that, but for the 2nd time this year they didn't force any turnovers and that is how the 49ers have won a load of games this season.

I'm also left wondering what would have happened should the officials not blow the play dead before Bowman stripped the ball late in the 4th quarter. What if brown picks off Manning rather than colliding with his own player and goes off injured?

Anyway, that's the way it goes I guess. In the long run it was a good season and the 49ers are in a much better place than they were a year ago but it's hard to think about that now.

For the off season the 49ers need to re-sign Smith and some of the other free agents on defense. For the draft WR is the priority I think.

Best of luck to the Giants in the SB, I think they have a great chance now and have really played their best football when it mattered.

Whoa, great price, i got them at 12/1 before the Packers match, i actually couldn't believe they were 12's, i climbed all over it!

Hope Brady gets shot with piles of his own s**t come Feb 5th

Yeah, just noticed that, it was really clear! Surprised American TV didn't issue an apology. Though to be pedantic, it was actually Weatherford, the punter and holder who said it.

Two great games, both decided on the last play. Four excellent teams, amazed that the Giants made it, who would have thought that after their mid season slump? I reckon the Patriots are not pleased to be playing NY, they would much rather have faced SF. There's no way the 49s would have kept up offence-wise with New England, but now I see the Superbowl as 50-50.

I didn't realize Tynes was originally from Scotland

The British media have found out and claimed him in today's papers :D

Nice to see a European over there anyway.
Maybe that makes no sense, just my first reaction anyway :)

They were writing about him the last time the Giants were in the Super bowl. Almost sure Sky did a piece on him also.

Still sickened about last nights result.

As Cundiff himself has said, he's made that exact kick ''a thousand times''. It's just such a shame that the miss had to come at such a crucial time. In fact, he hadn't missed a 4th quarter kick all season before last night!

Evans should have done much better too, it was excellent defending though to slap the ball out so credit to Moore for that.

I was very impressed with Flacco. He stood up when he needed to and should get the credit that he craves for that, even if it was against a poor defense.

I was very disappointed with the O and D lines. Brady went almost untouched all night and was only troubled by the secondary and Rice had to run into walls all night long because there was no gaps.

Can the likes of Reed and Lewis recharge the batteries and give it another good go next year? Lewis seemed to be targeted a lot by New England and I noticed a lot of teams doing it during this season too. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Like many Ravens and 49ers fans, the Super Bowl is a bit ''meh'' for me now, but I fancy the Giants to take it. The Patriots defense is poor and Manning has a lot of good receivers to hit.

All said and done it's been a very enjoyable first season for me as an NFL fan so thanks to all who have

Improvements need to be made at special teams (big time) and the O line especially for me.

Like many Ravens and 49ers fans, the Super Bowl is a bit ''meh'' for me now, but that will probably fade as the week progresses and the build up gets more intense. I fancy the Giants to take it. The Patriots defense is suspect to say the least and Manning has a lot of good receivers to hit. I think it'll be a shootout, it should be a very good game.

All said and done it's been a very enjoyable first season for me as an NFL fan so thanks to all on here who have helped to make it so.
