If there are aliens out there, they'd probably be so different that we might not register them... they could exist on another plane, between the atoms or as a cloud of gas...

Not necessarily, there's a good chance convergent evolution could occur.

Yawn....another thread on chinese lanterns I see.

Why do alien spacecraft need lights?

Duh! - Only because it's clearly written in section 5 of the Spaceway Code that any craft which are involved in interstellar space travel must have at least 50 working lights.

    Not that it's fecking enforced!

Makes me so angry so see UFO's flying round the place with some of their lights not working.

    UFOs exist.

UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object, and there ARE objects in the sky which fly and are unidentified. If I look up into the sky and see something flying and I don't know what it is then it's a UFO.

    ^^^^^^^LOL

so if someone sends up a chinese lantern, you look up and see it, don't know that its a chinese lantern, then it's a UFO....

    ehhhhh....no....it's still a chinese lantern!

"They exist in the spaces between space"

    Harold "Ox" Oxley,
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

That's one lame film to be quoting from......

You never see the feckers using indicators either. As bad as the drivers on the roads over here.

Are you missing the point? If he doesn't know what it is, it's unidentified. If someone sets him straight, then it's no longer unidentified. Unidentified does not equal alien spaceship.

Extraterrestrials exist, but its harder now than ever to know what is fake and what not. Because of technology. I think for example it was a lot easier to tell a real UFO photo apart from a fake one back in the days spanning between 1945 and 1985

Guy in my town was on the front page of the national papers saying he saw a ufo..apparently it spelled out "ANJIN" to him  Yara god help us!

Think the aliens were trying to spell "NINJA"....!!

The nearest star that could possibly have life containing planets is 84,000 light years away, so even if they sent us a message at the speed of light it would take generations to get here, so there's no way anyone on earth has ever seen an actual visitor..

All joking aside, I'm in two minds TBH. Watched a documentary on Discovery the other day, and the first time UFOs were noticed was in late WW2, when the nazis were experimenting with "hovering discs". After the capture of Nazi scientists, and their repatriation to the USA (project Paperclip), the sightings all increased - in the vicinity of Top Secret bases - to where the scientists had been relocated.

Cover up? Or cover story? Who can tell?
I'd think similar for at least some of the reports. A rellie of mine flew night missions over Germany in WW2 and he saw foo fighters on two missions. Lights that came up from below and tracked their flight for about ten minutes and then flew away. They exhibited flight characteristics that were well odd. He had flown missions since early on in the war and it was only later on that aircrews noted them. They were pretty sure at the time is was some Nazi secret weapon/monitoring device. Some Nazi scientists were defo experimenting with some out there shít. That much is part of public record. The exact nature of some of the weird shít is up for debate. On the physics front people forget that a helluva lot of modern physics came from Jewish scientists. An amazing amount. Great bunch o lads from the physics angle. :) German, especially nazi scientists were ignoring some of it from an (stupid) ideological standpoint. They were more into quantum physics for a start. So maybe, just maybe they stumbled upon some odd stuff others outside that daftly narrow focus missed? Plus Germany had an unreal lead in many sciences before the war. In chemistry alone they led the world. No slouches at engineering either. My dad, an engineer actually learned to read German before the war(he got married late:D), because so much of the good stuff was published in the language. So you never know. They may have cracked outside the standard envelope of flight, maybe even some anti gravity effect. Things that the US and others gobbled up after the war and used themselves, or tried to. The US would have not gotten to the moon when the did without the German lead in rocketry that they brought back with them after the dust had settled. German leads many of whom were soaked in blood. Ditto for other areas of flight engineering.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

But didn't the Germans also report seeing these lights thinking that they were some allied weapon? They were also reported in the pacific by the Japanese, everyone seemed to think it was the other side.

Im on the fence when it comes to aliens/ufo's, there's a lot of bull**** out there but there is also some genuine unexplained occurrences/anomalies that nobody has any answers for...

So true, the aliens would never have come up with that.
Conspiracy theory is nice, it mean the world has an order and we are not ruled or respondent by random events.

Lizards you are doing a bang on job. But could you pay the Bondholders...please...

I watched this documentary too. Thanks for the tip. Lots of unexplained, well documented cases. One i found quite impressive was the Costa Rica Gov mapping plane 1971 flying at 10,000 ft taking high resolution photos when the circle round UFO was captured. It was deemed to be a real unexplained object according to the program when later analysed

Just watched it there on youtube.
Director, James Fox assembled the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify at The National Press Club in Washington D.C.: Air Force Generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries tell stories that, as Governor Fife Symington from Arizona stated, "will challenge your reality".

I am 99.999999% sure that there is life on other planets. I am 99.99999999% sure that none of it is dropping by Earth. Why on earth would aliens come here? And in the numbers that are reported; if they were really alien there would be no doubt as to what they were. Our nearest star is Proxima Centuari, and is 4.2 light years away. What is there on Earth that would convince a group of aliens to travel for at least 4 years (assuming light speed travel, and Proxima Centuari having planets with life)? It's a hell of a long way to come to chop up some cows and probe a few rednecks.

Anyway, the video. Didn't watch much of it, but the second UFO looks like a rocket to me. Who knows what kind of covert planes the Chinese military is working on?

They are calling that thing the Stealth Blimp it probably the latest military plane to come out of the ranch. Its been seen, not only in America but Britain as well.

Headlines of the Evening Press back in the late 80's/early 90's said that two Gardai had seen a UFO (wasn't an April Fools) but can't find anything about it online. Remember the teacher spent have the class talking about the story the next day.

I thought this was strange, it was a sighting recorded during Obama's inauguration speech. The reason I thought it strange is it was recorded by multiple networks and angles, also if it is a military secret craft they are not going to fly it over such an event especially one with their new commander an chief being sworn in.

I assume people realise that the UFO explanation is a very handy way of covering up military testing of new aircraft, drones, missiles and other airborne devices?

Most UFO sightings in the United States oddly enough occur in places where you'd quite likely expect that kind of activity to be going on e.g. New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona etc etc.

Does it surprise anyone that China is quite likely doing some very sophisticated military aircraft development?

You can be 100% sure that the Chinese military has extremely high-tech equipment under development. They have a full-blown space programme under development and are now have some of the highest technology in the world at their disposal. So, of course they have all sorts of high tech and strange experimental aircraft in the skies.

When someone spots one of these devices, or they accidentally overfly a built up area, military authorities deny they exist. Then, they just allow the folklore around alien spacecraft to provide an explanation. This sweeps it under the carpet and also makes those reporting the sightings and any footage seem rather non-credible.

Most of these sightings quite likely have a rather mundane military explanation.

Well, they were rocket scientists who contributed to rockets which were used to land some relatively minor amount of ordinances on Allied cities, whilst their own were being firebombed. They weren't even like Bomber harris, more like the guys who designed the Allied, or German bomber planes. In no sense were the designers of the planes war criminals. In fact bombing itself was not considered a war crime.
