    Riga or Prague.

You'd want to have your wits about you in Riga though.
Plenty of dodgy spots but once you spot it and get out of there fast , you'll be ok.

If you think Riga has good nightlife, you don't get out much!

Berlin is the best by a mile in my opinion.

Honourable mentions to Prague, Dublin and Hamburg.

I was reading about Berlin in the Sunday Times mag. Berlin Before the 2 wars was famous for its decadence and sexual liberalism. The NAZIs cleaned it up when they came to power, then after ww2 it never took off again because of the divided city. But now as the Berlin wall is down it is back big time. Loads of anything goes clubs with open drug use and dark rooms for sex and whatever.

The author of the article was suggesting that decadence and liberalism on this scale is a sign of the end of empire he ended the article with the words of a leonard cohen song

Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
and stuff it up the hole
    in your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
    I've seen the future, brother:
    it is murder.

    I have to go.

I went interrailing over the summer. I went to Amsterdam,Prague,Berlin,Krakow,Budapest and Croatia. The best out of all of them was, imo, Berlin.

What are you into, OP? Everyone's saying Berlin, and with good reason, but we don't know if you're looking for the best techno clubs in the world or places that serve cheap shots.

You think Dublin could learn from Berlin and promote absolute decadence and liberalism so all the high spending clubers would flock to our city.

In a years time we will be saying deficit what deficit, IMF/ECB fuk off.

Maybe start studying instead of planning the holiday or you'll be too busy repeating to go partying.

Nightclubs are illegal under Irish law.

They're referred to as 'dancehalls with attached bar' written up in the 1950's. Essentially, the establishment owners are working with legislation drawn up over 60 years ago. No one has reviewed it, nor does anyone have the desire to do so. If you're looking for nightlife, just go elsewhere...
And in reply to your statement, the legalisation of marijuana for medicinal and recreational use would get us out of this mess in a few short months. But thats not the goal. The goal is to get as much money out of you, not to restore civil liberties or logic.

I was there for the WC Final in 06, lively spot allright.
Newcastle seemingly good as mentioned here allready.
Hard to beat Liverpool on Grand National weekend though I reckon!
As for Ibiza, Santa Ponza etc, don't know, different market. Sunny Beach not too bad maybe,it's cheap there and lively anyway.

Has to be Berlin. Been 9 times. The Adagio nightclub is unreal. I had no problem getting in anywhere. You just gotta dress well and not turn up wasted.
    2nd choice would be Madrid.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭southsiderosie

Madrid - you can do megaclubs or totally unpretentious bars - there is something there for everyone. Plus the wine is cheap, and in the neighborhood bars, the pour is very generous for the liquor.

I have to say though, it's a shame that there aren't Mediterranean-style cafe bars in Ireland and that pubs can't stay open later. I loved late nights in Spain, but as a foreigner, I thought that the best locals for nightlife were in Dublin...and come to think of it, some of the best nights out I had in Spain were with random packs of Irish people we met along the way.
