Makes no difference to me - I pay my television license.

This is just a way of making sure people can't save money by dumping their TV. It's disgraceful. If this sort of thing (driving the people into the ground) was happening in Iraq there'd be bloody murder over it and here it's right on our doorstep. Disgraceful, they should be all lined up against the wall IMHO.

I'd sooner pay it than the TV license

You'll be paying more when this comes in.
    Enjoy.

I do hope everyone who refuses to pay the TV license because of one show they don't like cancels their subscription TV services for the same reason.

You've inadvertantly hit the nail on the head. The problem is that they are so detached from reality that they don't realise the pain they're causing and pressure they're putting people under. They should all have to live on average wage for a year to be able to relate to the vast majority of the people they're governing.

At least they have a choice with the TV subscriptions.

What kind of evasion is happening for those who don't have a tv and for those who are changing their tv habits by getting rid of their tv and replacing with a monitor or a home projection kid?

How exactly are such people evading the rte tv license?

And for those who do have a tv and not paying - the license fee is old and outdated and came in at a time when equipment such as dvd players and games consoles and sky were not available and IMO that is what tvs are used for now and not to watch RTE.

What is wrong with RTE becoming efficient? How much money could they save by making some changes?

Pat kenny is on a wage of 600,000 euro PA. Its too much.
    Other people:
    Ryan Tuberity?
    Joe Duffy?
    Ann Doyle?
    Dobison?
    Other 'stars'

    Their wages are over inflated.

    Other measures
How much money is it costing them to show programs that are on other sky/ntl chanels - imported stuff like:
    Home and away
    The Bill
    Eastenders

I'm sure there could be loads more that could be added here.

TG4 and TV3 are two fantastic channels that are run on lower budgets than RTE. I think RTE should be got rid of entirely especially the tv channels (i'm not sure about the radio) and move anything homegrown and programs that are good over to TG4 and TV3.

RTE are dying a slow death and they are pinching from peoples pockets to keep it alive. yet it's dead in so many homes.

The Communications Minister has revealed that he is considering introducing a new broadcasting charge, which would apply to every household - whether they have a television or not.

Pat Rabbitte's told the Dáil that RTÉ is losing €25m a year in licence fee payments because of evasion.

The proposed new charge would apply to people who view television on their computers and smartphones, and would be collected along with the new household charge.

The Minister said that his Department had concluded that the charge is a "viable model".

    but if someone doesn't have a computer/smartphone then what?

    BULLSH1T.

My brother can get netflix on his mobile for 7 euro a month. He has thousands and thousands of things to pick from and now he will be charged for it and the money is going towards RTE which he doesn't even watch.

Can these inspectors just brust into your home without a warrent?

What I am saying is , just tell them you don't have one of the devices and **** off. A broadcast licence? What are we even broadcasting, is it not receiving what we are doing ? Tell them something for nothing, they could close RTE down tomorrow and ditch the TV licence and the people of Ireland wouldn't give too ****s!

The TV licence will be replaced by this new charge hence the dole for the inspectors or more likely re-assigned somewhere else. The charge will be collected similar to the household charge and yes it is really unfair and unjust that it will be collected from everyone even if they never watched RTE in their life.

In the UK it appears they can some say - others differ (SEE HERE) - as seeing as we often use some of their laws later, I've a sneaking suspicion the Irish equivalent might can too but with justification and reason?

Open to be very wrong. Probably am.

So the household charge will now be 260 even before the site valuation charge is introduced.

Water charges are estimated at 250 to 400 per house per year.

But at least the government can say we kept our promise not to raise income tax.

By initially looking at that - your better off not actually owning a home?
If thats the case, the building industry thats trying to start up again, might be severely hit again if many come to that conclusion!

Well done FG and Labour (FF and Greens - part two)

They should make TV cable and satalite packages that don't have RTE, and if you subscribe to one, you don't have to pay this charge, or the licence.

Will Joe Duffy cover this one? Will he fúck

And the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra can suck my balls

And all money that will not be spent in you local shops and pubs.

All to pay an over inflated public system - ps wages, pensions, sw; further driving a wedge between people and transferring wealth.

coming soon from the government that bought you the blanket broadcast tax for everyone: motor tax for pedestrians!

sure, no reason not to tax you for using the roads just because you don't have a car.

Look lads and lassies, they don't give a damn about us. You know it and they know we know it.

Whats more, Noonan today assured German bankers: ‘Ireland will not burn senior bondholders’" (HERE)
...And thats after they stated in the election manifesto: “Fine Gael in Government will force certain classes of bondholders to share in the cost of recapitalising troubled financial institutions”
...And Labour said at election time: “Is it Labour’s way or Frankfurt way” – Eamon Gilmore

,,,but then again, Noonan WANTS the public to pay on the German bonds - seeing as he owns some of them!
    True - see: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2011/0409/1224294305462.html
Register shows Minister for Finance owns German bonds

So give out all you want - they aren't listening though and they don't give a fcuk!

If they continue on this route those in NE will just pack up and leave or move towards strategic default. The people who got most screwed in the last 10 years - middle class who bought overvalued homes are now being drained again.

Plus landlords (a house with 6 bedsits pays 6 property charges) will sell up lowering the price of houses and depressing building trade even further

Pat Rabbite Labour TD. Mr. Indignant man of the people in opposition, now a notch above SonderKommando. What a cu*t

Im starting to miss FF. Must be delusional
