    Would I have a choice? :)

I pay my TV licence, so I'd have no problem with this, provided that the TV licence was abolished.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. We'll be taxed to breathe soon.

I'd try typing the word we're both thinking but I can never spell it properly.

Just one quote from the article

"Pat Rabbitte's told the Dáil that RTÉ is losing €25m a year in licence fee payments because of evasion."

so people dont pay the current charge, so if they rename it and change the law they think these people who arnt paying will all of a sudden start paying?

or are they gonna up the costs to cover some of the 25million a year they are losing out on??

Can we all please lobby to our local TD's to stop this??

I would argue that RTE is losing so much money because of inept management and the ridiculiously powerful unions in Montrose. Let's not forget this is an organisation that at one stage was paying Pat Kenny almost a million a year.

Yahoo - another basically charge on the home and everything in it!
A great bunch of lads they are!

Yes, I know its supposedly replacing the TV licence but this new 'charge' is supposed to cover everything but the money is still going to RTE services, etc!
(If I want them or not!)

I'm paying ALREADY for similar services on devices each time I top-up or pay additional bills!

...Not that that matters to FG or Labour!

If its going to replace the current TV licence, then fair enough . . .

    WHAT DO WE WANT?
    FEWER TAXES!

    WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
BEFORE WE'RE FORCED TO PAY A PROTEST TAX!

Everyone is screwed. Everyone has to pay.

Sure, if you usually pay the tv licence and decide not to pay this? ... you'll get a tv inspector knocking at your door. Since you're already on the system.

Lovely names they come up for these taxes. Household charge=property tax. Broadcast charge= RTE tax. TV3 will not get a cent!

I presume the new charge will be more than the current Tv licence?
Anyone got an idea how much its going to be?

The Communications Minister has revealed that he is considering introducing a new broadcasting charge, which would apply to every household - whether they have a television or not.

Pat Rabbitte's told the Dáil that RTÉ is losing €25m a year in licence fee payments because of evasion.

The proposed new charge would apply to people who view television on their computers and smartphones, and would be collected along with the new household charge.

The Minister said that his Department had concluded that the charge is a "viable model".

Yes! More taxes please, I have far too much money, none of which is going to local businesses at all.

So you can count the number of households that should have licenses but don't... you just don't know who they are? Very interesting.

Incompetent scum..who the fcuck needs RTE anyway? Nothing but rubbish shows and talentless presenters/actors.

Sell teh whole complex off like they want to do with the ESB.

Considering I don't even have a TV they can fùck right off!

Coughing up money so that stick insect Tubridy can lick some other pathetic excuse of an Irish personality's arse while he gleefully ignores any serious topics so he can cater to the older audiences and join them with his snide sarcasm in anything that's different from 1970's Ireland?

Or hear about RTÈ splashing out on yet another tired reality format saturated to death by the English broadcasters just so they can trot out the same TV personalties again & again & again?

    No. Fùckin'. Thanks.
