"Skyfall", hmmm. The name sounds like one of those Bond videogame adaptations they've been trying to make over the last few years. In fact I believe one of the last ones was called "Nightfire", ha.

    better title than qos

In fairness though, Quantum Of solace was the name of a Bond story.

and the definition of the title actually fitted in quite well with the ending of the film
Bond finding the guy who initially set up Vespa and instead of killing him stops him from doing the same to another woman

Would it not have been better if he had
stopped him from doing the same to another woman, by killing him

    Nah,
    killing him
would've meant that Bond hadn't grown as a character.

Meh, worth a try if this is true. Seriously. The James Bond franchise is a tired, vacant meme at this stage, even with the attempt to reboot it with Craig's turn in the role.

In any case, I seriously doubt the studio would allow Mendes to remove all the action from a Bond movie - the franchise is one of the most lucrative for branding after all - but if he could do it, it might be an interesting experiment. We're 22 movies in people - some fresh approaches wouldn't go amiss at this stage.

I'm not liking I had to go to nme's website to view that :pac:

I thought Casino Royale got the mix of action and drama just right, the poker game went on for a good chunk of the movie and the action never felt too ridiculous aside from the sinking house. if they remove all the action scenes it just wont be a Bond movie, you can alter things to keep them fresh but it'd just be another spy thriller without some of the trademarks, CR refreshed the series just enough.

I don't see why the action should have to be toned down too much to get an oscar nom. Surely if Johhny Depp can get nominated for POTC......

I totally agree that casino royale has the perfect blend of both action and drama it's just a perfect movie IMO and totally refresed Many peoples intrest in the franchise. I would actually like to see the character of bond develop more and show the strain and pain this career choice has on his life but still keep the amazing action sequences in there for the die hard bond fans

I am actually starting to go off the Bond movies :(

    Casino Royale was good.
    Quantum of Solace was crap.

Sure look at the previous ones..
    GoldenEye was good.
Tomorrow Never Dies wasn't the best.
The World is Not Enough - better than the previous, but ... ehhh.
Die Another Day - same old crap.

Its just the same old crap. Can you really make really enjoyable movies when you've made 22 previous movies with the same formula? albeit, tweaked but still the same.

In fairness, Mendes did Road To Perdition, which had plenty of action and was Oscar worthy (did it win one? Can't remember). If you look at the differences between Casino Royal and Quantom Of Solace, CR had a great blend of action and drama. QoS was pretty much action sequences with a few bits of exposition to tie them together.

It seems to me that it's a good idea to try and avoid the over the top action scenes to get a great story going. I've a lot of faith in Mendes, so I'm sure he's not going to cock it up.

There was always a certain comfort of having a bond movie every 2 years come out in November. They may have been weak but it was still something to look forward too. Like LOTR at Christmas.

Hopefully it will be an improvement on QOS, but if the title is anything to go by than it might not be.

Ben Whishaw is Q  (way too young imo) if rumours on web today are true

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Yeah, I read that earlier. I wonder how he'll fit into it. As you say, he seems way too young, unless they're going for the "wonder kid" approach.

if it even touches on OHMSS...it could be the second best bond film ever...

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Shouldn't be hard to top QOS, though Casino Royale is definitely a tough cookie to follow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 829 ✭✭✭OldeCinemaSoz

everything went pear shaped after OHMSS...although DAF was a step in the right direction...

Casino Royal would have to of been the best Bond flick since GoldenEye.

I still wonder do all those people who threw a song and dance when it was revealed that Craig was to be the new bond still have that same view. ?

it's a pity that john RIP barry won't be back to do the soundtrack although getting annie lennox to do the vocals might be nice...

    :)

it's not craig that's the problem imho it's the whole decline of the franchise...

basically the bond film needs reinvention. and how it could do that i've no idea...
