Could u guys tell me please what I do for second sheet on Powerpoint Im doing perfume bottle compared to the Guitar.. On the 1st sheet I have written and explained everything what are the similarities of the guitars parts reffering to the perfume bottle.. Just wondering what could I do on 2nd sheet what to write ?

You must compare two current or at least recent aftershaves. You can't compare an aftershave to something else. As for the second page be creative and find some other way to compare them.

    Hey,

Having trouble with finishing some aspects of Solid Works, I need to slice a cyclinder at a sloping angle Any Suggestions? Any good sites for Solidworks tips?

Also, what is output 7 about? I dont understand whats to be on it (and neither does my teacher):(

Select the front plane, or any plane that is vertical in relation to your bottle, draw a diagonal line at whatever angle you need to, then make then make a square around the bit you need to cut off and do an extrude cut "through all".

For output 7 you explain why you decided to make the bottle you did in output 9

I'm also talking about output 7. Output 7 is where you put this stuff.
    see..
    OgtfU.png
It says "possible solutions" so that's where you could do sketching on other musical instruments.

    Here's a guide to Output 7 from t4.ie

I don't think you can :( Out of interest, what did you do for the logo?

Scan them, just like every other page. You don't want to risk carrying the history of the word or powerpoint file over to the pdf and then having your exam cancelled.

I don't think you can :( I made that bottle too for my Part A and just left it a slightly transparent red. Out of interest, what did you do for the logo and LACOSTE title? Decal?

I got the decal at the start but each time you go on SW u got to click the Photoworks Icon(tab) .. I got rid of it because thought that examiners ain't be able to see it !!! Also the decal is not visible on photoview 360 so tham means photo realistic image will be without logo "brand" on the bottle.. I cant complain the bottle I have done in my opinion it looks gr8.. http://postimage.org/image/3k1nbq9rv/
    Sorry for posting Image again..:pac:

Also see where it says in the left side midle bottle cap and one red + green dot like a traffic light why its like that .. When I open solidworks it always gives me this option to rebuild or dont why its like that ?

Not sure really, I think it might be telling you that part is open in another window, which means that any edits you make to the part in the assembly will carry over to the part itself, and any changes you make to the part open in another widow will carry over to the assembly. I made this conclusion because a traffic light also appears next to your "ExplodedView" in the sidebar, indicating that it is currently open. As for the rebuild thing, I'm sure if I ever bothered to read the message underneath it I'd know what it was talking about, but frankly I've always just hit the OK button whenever I saw it. It's always worked for me so far :D

Your school doesn't have one A3 scanner? Ouch! Maybe export your Solidworks files to PDF using a "print to PDF" program like PrimoPDF then export the pages from your your Microsoft Word or PowerPoint file which do not include any sketches to be done (i.e. your title page, Photo-realistic page) You can export these to PDF by simply clicking "save as" and then selected "PDF" in the file format section and finally clicking save.

As for the pages which have sketches.... hmm, maybe scan the individual sketched part of the sheet using an A4 scanner (unless you live in the stone age, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a single A4 scanner, literally every printer nowadays has one), load the images onto the computer and insert them into your Microsoft Word document and then export to PDF.

Once your finished making all your PDFs, paste them all together in the correct order using PrimoPDF and then export your final PDF.

As for your worry over the file carrying any history with it, or to use the correct term "meta data": Meta data can easily be altered or removed entirely from any file. I'm not sure if PrimoPDF has meta data features but I did use a program a few years ago for editing PDFs called NitroPDF which could alter or remove any information stored with the file to your heart's desire.

Would examiners be very specific with headings in the project? like instead of possible solutions would it be okay to call it design ideas?
Another thing, what happens if one was to go over the 14 page limit? Also what type of cd are we meant to use for the solidworks files and scanned portfolio
    :pac:

You would only be marked for the first 14 pages. Technically you are allowed 16 pages, 14 of the project, a front to show your project, and a back for references.

I dont think using an a3 scanner will be possible, what about taking a picture of them using a digital camera?

The headings dont have to be that specific at all, once they just are relevant and make sense.
For going over the 14 pages I think you get docked marks if its over or under the 14 pages. i think u just use a blank dvd like one of the recording ones

Lads I've done my entire part A on Solidworks on my home laptop :/ I did the 1-Million bottle and I spent the entire November midterm doing it.. what will I do? My teacher doesn't know much about it, but is my 3D model gonna be accepted and marked etc? I put a huge effort into it!

Awww mate :( it has to be done on a school computer, you might be lucky enough that they dont check your disc but if they do and they notice, you'll be docked badly!!

Not just docked badly, probably something much more serious like an "investigation" or something like that.

Hey , think of it this way, the hardest part about making the Solidworks model is trying to figure out how you're going to make it, once you know how you can fly through it. So if you want to avoid any chance of losing 40% of your DCG Leaving Cert go into school and replicate the project you made at home on the school computer. Seeing as you know what features to use and the likes of that, I'd say you'll be able to get the whole lot done in 3 hours, depending on the amount of detail.

EDIT: Maybe even ask your DCG teacher if you can bring your laptop in one day so that you can refer to it while making the project on the school computer if you forget any of the measurements. Seriously, it's nothing to worry about, just get really stuck in during your DCG classes between now and next week and you should get it done, perhaps even with some time to spare.

Really man? Ok.. I don't mean to be a cheat or anything but with just one week left, would it be possible to open a solidwork part in school, copy all the features on the left, and paste them in a new empty part, and save. Will that come up on the examiners check as completed in school? :/ thanks I really appreciate this.. don't wanna get a D2* like a guy did last year. I'm not the only one in my class who has solidworks done at home! Uh-oh ... the other idea wouldnt be so bad.. bringing my laptop to school and redrawing. Cant believe this

The traffic lights mean something isn't built properly. Where the dimensions inputted isn't physically possible. A simple example would be if you had a square where one side was one size but another side was a different size. That couldn't work because its not its not a square if it has two different sizes. If you look through it youmight be able to work out the problem.

The school is supposed to have one, the pages are supposed to be scanned in school.

Not 100% sure on this but I've seen a good few projects that got As and some of them had titles that arent in the breif.

Suppose it would, but you'd have to convert them to pfd, the scans we are doing are super high quality, they are taking us about 15 mins of scanning per page, so you camera pic wouldn't be anywhere near that.

If they don't check you should be fine. If they do, from what I've been told you whole exam could be cancelled, including the written paper in june because it is cheating on a state exam they may decide to cancel your entire leaving cert and ban you from repeating for 7 years. You teacher signs a declaration to say that you did the project 100% in class under their supervision. I don't know what implications it could have for the teacher but tampering with state exams is a criminal offence so the teacher could be in major trouble for allowing you to do that.

Does the school not have a backup? Our school keeps 7 backups of everything we do. Ask your teacher and see what they say.

If you copy the features over into a new solidworks file it will show that it was made in school.

I'm not sure if you can copy features over, BUT you can copy sketches from one file to another, and I have done so occasionally. Here's the thing though, I'd be guessing you used Solidworks 2011 to make your project on your laptop, if the version of SW on your school computer is still in 2010 or 2009 then you will not even be able to open your work on the school computers.
