No it MUST be a pdf.

Right question lads, the portfolio has to be a maximum of 14 pages, does this include:
    1. The front page where I have pictures of the solidworks models, place for exam number and the title ?

    2. The back page where I have the references and links i.e google etc ?

Another question. Can the sketches be done on a page, cut out then glued on anther sheet ?

For your first question I believe that you are allowed 1 page at the front and one page at the back that arent counted, so its really 16 pages if you count your cover page and bibliography.

Yes the sketches can be stuck into your project once they are the original sketches and not copies.

The booklet, these guys just chose to do it in powerpoint, I'm doing mine in publisher, others use photoshop. Rest assured you don't actually have to do a powerpoint.

    Phew! *wipes forehead*

Don't ever do that to me again! :pac:

    Almost went into cardiac arrest.

Yeah well originally you'll do it in word, but your teacher will show you how to convert it into a PDF file, don't worry about it :)

Er... I'm a bit confused, do you convert the Word document into a PDF or do you make a PDF of the printed project with the sketches included? The brief says the following:
    JF2qv.png
Because it says "completed", I was going to scan the completed portfolio with the sketches and then make a PDF out of the images.

Do the references have to be like the exact address you got it from?! Or can it be like "boards.ie" rather than "boards.ie/nonsense-blabla???"

It only has to be the domain name, i.e www.google.ie and www.boards.ie

You are allowed a front and back page, front for exam number and pictures of your solidworks models, the back page is used for references. Do your best to style it up a bit as well, remember there are points for presentation. :)

    Cool thanks!

Side Note: Will I lose marks for not doing a references sheet? I'm running a little low on time, i.e. I still need to do my Part B on Solidworks. It doesn't say you have to do refs on the brief, would I get away with it?

It does say you need to give references on the brief so you can be guaranteed to be deducted marks. Just throw a simple one together though. Are you nearly finished solidworks? You have like 2 days left !!!

Ah yeahh, I just double checked there, suppose I should do one. As for the Solidworks, it'll be grand I have all next week.

I did the references last night and e-mailed them to myself, I used 3 parts from Part A in the pump system for Part B, so I didn't need to remake those, so all I really needed to do was make 5 parts, assemble them all together, explode them, plop them all on a sheet, and print. Oh and I stayed back 2 hours after school, and I made a little plan before going in this morning, so I could be as quick and efficient as possible, and I stayed in at lunch, and I skipped religion and PE. Oh and finally, I'm a bit a whiz at the ol' Solidworks. :D

oh and PS: if anybody's behind on Solidworks I recommend setting up keyboard shortcuts, I had it set up so I could tap...'s' for smart dimension, 'r' for add relation, 'c' for circle, 'e' for extrude, 't' for trim, 'l' for line, 'a' for 3 point ark etc. It takes about 1 minute to set up and will probably save you hours on your sketches. Pretty nifty stuff! (google it)

    ^^ I see ;).
Ive the second bottle assembled just need to do the exploded view and the other sheets. Still have a good bit of the outputs to do though :(.
In the compare and contrast what are people comparing ? Im a bit lost. Would weight and volume be an example?

I opted for dimensions, weight, volume (how much of the perfume it can hold) and materials. Btw just so I know, is the project due to be completed this Friday?

So do you have to reference evry single picture?

Thank God I have lots of perfume bottles at home so 90% are my own pictures

Firstly, I recommend not posting parts of your project on boards.ie, this thread has over 20,000 views, so think of the amount of people you're giving access to your work. Secondly, the examiner has no way of knowing where you made your written project, what program you used or when you made it as you do not hand up the PowerPoint file, you hand up a PDF of the project once it has been printed out (i.e. you print it out, put in whatever sketches you want and then you scan every page and make a PDF of the scanned pages). The Solidworks, you won't get away with doing at home because you do have to include those files on the disk and Solidworks files store information about when and where you made them.

Output 2? As far as I know, you're not supposed to compare a bottle with an artefact but rather two existing bottles. Can anyone clear this up?

Maybe make what you've done your second page and then do a more broad "mood board" for your first page, maybe sketch a few pictures of some other possible solutions relating to the theme of music like a harp, trumpet according etc. Make a page all about how you came up with your chosen design. A map or diagram of your thought process would be good, maybe with some arrows pointing from A to B to C.
It's up to you really :)
