When you were there did you ever use the services of a prostitute or smoke or take drugs?

Of course, none of the above can be found in the land of Saints and Scholars.

As has been said already brilliant city. A real eye opener. Found a great bar on the RLD to sit and people watch the stangest sight had to be a group of school kids under 10 years old on a field trip with their teacher just strolling round looking in the windows. Amazing.

Been once, nice enough place but a bit grey-kinda like Dublin with legal drugs.
I went to the coffee shops, my mate took a few too many drugs and ended up very sick in a train station-was quite embarassing how used to it the emergency services were as they just walked up, gave him a can of coke and essentially told him to get on with it :L Right as rain after the sugar.
Few friends availed of the prostitution services aswell-amazing what €50 will get you. Its funny going to these places and being the innocent bystander amidst all the chaos :D

When I visited Amsterdam I did neither.
I stayed in the Hilton, famous for when John Lennon and Yoko Ono had a love in there.
I also visited the Van Gough Museum to see the original works of Gauguin and Van Gough.
Not everyone visits Amsterdam for prostitution of drugs.

How dare those drugs prostitute themselves!

I once collected a mate from the airport , he'd been in the dam Partying for 3 days non stop, he was coming down big time and was starving, so we stopped in a chipper.

The poor guy was in bits, and shaking n shivering waiting for his burger.
Some kid about 5 was watching him closely and asked his mum loudly ' mum why is that man shaking' and the whole place turned their eyes to him...... He nearly melted, nearly cried and nearly vomited.
The kid still waiting for an answer was staring him down, my mate stuttered loudly' I'm just back from amaterdam' and ran out of the chipper.

I often wonder if that scenario will affect any part of the kids life in the future....

For the record, everyone I know has done drugs and gone to hookers there, almost all get too high to actually **** the hookers and end up talking nonsense to them and getting ripped off by them.

Can't stop laughing at this!:D ...I love how he justifies himself to the kid.

Only live 1.5 hour train journey away, and just cannot be arsed with the place, been there loadsa time, go drinking and come back here (EINDHOVEN, which is also a kip, but with exactly the same sh1t as a'dam).

Why is everyone so mean about Eindhoven?? Phillips de Jongpark, Tongelreep, Van Abbemuseum, Bierprofessor, De Baron not to mention all the festivals and the fact that you can be in Germany or Belgium in 20 minutes and France in 2 hours!! Check out the Strijp complex too, some hidden gems there and the events are really kicking off in 2012 imo. And the people here are waaay friendlier and more open than in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague.

Can't wait to see if the rest of NL will follow Maastricht in banning cannibas and it does look like the days of the red windows are numbered. Sorry folks :D.

Actually "of" is the word for "or" in Dutch. Coincidence?

I've been to Amsterdam twice with friends.

    Smoked some weed, took mushrooms.

    Didn't ride a hooker.

I've used hookers on several occasions. Smoked weed/hash, took E a couple of times, did a lot of blow, took mushrooms just the once, several benzo's & nonbenzos, barbs & mild opiates (codeine, hydrocodone).

    Never been to Amsterdam tho,

As soon as I got to amsterdam I went to a hooker and asked her to sit on my face. I thought it would be cute to do it in a dutch accent.

    Didnt end well

Amsterdam is the name of a new club in Dublin. Great place by all accounts but never went in.

Went to Amsterdam last April with OH and 2 friends, had a ball , 10 o c in the morning went straight for first coffee shop ! It was so weird, cant remember the name tho if anyone else knows let me know it was like a long dark room with very dark lights and trees on the wall. there was a small upstairs balcony . And the shop part was at the front .. Not the best weed either !!

Went RLD for a look but it seemed quite small just two sides if the canal , think we missed another section? Am i right? Went to sex show too which was weird with weird creepy men in watching aswell .. ick

Looking to book another trip v soon, when is the no smoking for tourists law coming in ? Any recommendations on smoker friendly hotels?

Those bikes are dangerous , they obviously have right of way over everyone! SOmetimes when you think your on the footpath your on a bike track and they DONT STOP !!!

Nice city , nice atmosphere !! cant wait to go back!!

Was there on new years day just gone, was in holland for a few days and took a day trip to amsterdam. Didn't get too much of a look around cos it was pissing rain, but got a couple of hash cakes and some philosophers stone truffles - wacky shít to say the least! Didn't see any of the sex side really, but sure a hookers a hooker at the end of the day - I wouldn't walk around in the rain for a free ride off one, let alone to look at one.
The bikes are lethal, but that seems to be all over holland, we were in eindhoven and there's millions of them there too!
I'd like to go back in the good weather though and do the whole red light experience (minus riding the hookers!)

Yeah, went on a visit last summer.

Stayed at a hotel about half hour outside the center called "Holiday Inn" (very apt).

Fun place. Rented a bike and crashed into a 60 year old woman, breaking collar bone.
    I felt terrible, lol.

Went to a few hookers, which was basically the reason I went there.

There were actually a load of broads in our hotel basically there for a sex holidays themselves, but I had no luck with any of them.

There was a bunch of pretty boys in another room in my hotel corridor; I think they all got lucky with the girls in short shorts.

    But yeah, fun times.

Actually, one of the prostitutes totally ripped me off.
    And I mean TOTALLY.

I actually tried to argue for my money back, but she said she was gonna call her "security".
I had a vision of some big black pimp dude, dunking my head in a canal, so I let it go.
    But I was none-to-pleased.
