You could just do those things here and save the cost of the flight?

When I visited Amsterdam I did neither.
I stayed in the Hilton, famous for when John Lennon and Yoko Ono had a love in there.
I also visited the Van Gough Museum to see the original works of Gauguin and Van Gough.
Not everyone visits Amsterdam for prostitution of drugs.

When you were there - October 2007
did you ever use the services of a prostitute - No I'm a woman.. but I was taken aback at how stunning some of the women on show are!
or smoke or take drugs? - I ate a 'space cake in a cafe'

    Yes and No respectively.

Good weekend...plenty of "normal" things to do....anne frank house, van gogh museum etc.

Natch. Never got to the red light though because I pulled a normal girl.

Smoked me brains out. Though my first joint in the greenhouse effect gave me a panic attack. Stuck to hash after that. Which is the posh option.

Been to Amsterdam, smoked and took mushrooms and got lost in a park for 8 hours trying to find pieces of my ex boyfriend's head.

Why would he on a thread about Amsterdam  ?

    Edit: No, you're right. Sorry.

Went to the dam a few years back. On the train from Brussels myself and my friends met a bloke from Sligo who informed us with great excitement that he was going straight to the red light district to get a black hooker.

So off he went anyway and later that night we strolled down to the infamous place ourselves to see what the craic was. The vast majority of the girls were absolutely stunning but no sight of any black women. The only place we saw black hookers was a whore house called Fat City. Think Big Mommas House - these women were HUUUGE

The following day we went to the Van Gogh museum and ran into yerman from Sligo in the gift shop. He recognised us and loudly declared that he indeed had enjoyed the services of a lovely black woman in the red light district. He was ****in delighted with himself.

We were nearly thrown out of the place for falling around in hysterics. What a dirty dirty bastard :pac:

    Once yep, fantastic city.

    Hookers - no.

Drugs - yes, and they were lovely.

Would love to go before they change the laws re: the coffee shops. I'd like to go the Red Light to have a gander, but doubt I would avail of any of the ladies' services. I'd like to see all the historical schtuff , too though.

Went there: drank only mineral water, eschewed drugs and shunned the sex industry in order to defy convention.

I thought it would be nice to have one less cosseted male student cunt with a zany Amsterdam story in the world.

It is quite a dark and seedy place.. but if you look in the right places you can really have a good time..

    I love Escape http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=escape%20amsterdam&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CDAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.escape.nl%2F&ei=5sgIT-i2EpCwhAfC_4WHCQ&usg=AFQjCNGQsv-1gCl2ILSk5BKCnnKJfEMnqA

Possibly the best nightclub I've been to..

Great destination for a weekend break. My wife brought me there for my birthday.Did the Heineken museum,Anne Frank,Van gogh, coffee shops. The red light is a real eyeopener.
It turns into a different city after dark.Very seedy and not the kind of place to leave your guard down.

don't know if he's homeless but he could be, he looks like he could be brazilian

Amsterdam is one of the coolest cities in Europe. True, there's a lot of tourists on the drugs n' hooker trails, but it has a hell of a lot more than that to offer.

Some people say the place is seedy, but if you stay out of the red light district, it's quite a cosy & welcoming city.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭ringadingding

I once collected a mate from the airport , he'd been in the dam Partying for 3 days non stop, he was coming down big time and was starving, so we stopped in a chipper.

The poor guy was in bits, and shaking n shivering waiting for his burger.
Some kid about 5 was watching him closely and asked his mum loudly ' mum why is that man shaking' and the whole place turned their eyes to him...... He nearly melted, nearly cried and nearly vomited.
The kid still waiting for an answer was staring him down, my mate stuttered loudly' I'm just back from amaterdam' and ran out of the chipper.

I often wonder if that scenario will affect any part of the kids life in the future....

For the record, everyone I know has done drugs and gone to hookers there, almost all get too high to actually **** the hookers and end up talking nonsense to them and getting ripped off by them.

was there twice, didnt partake in any durty stuff but did take a "special" cake on the 1st night.didnt feel anything so decided to take 4 the night after.....was last seen dribbling in a corner of 1 of the irish bars there.
    ahhh the memories.

Been there heaps of times, everyone should visit the Dam at some stage, even if you don't wish to venture to a coffeeshop or the RLD.

There's a lot more to the place than weed & hookers.

Yes & Yes, (at least im honest, most of the fellas that are saying no about the red light girls are lying, until you've experienced it you cannot explain how incredibly sexy many of them are :P )

Tis the greatest city in the world imo , its been cleaned up no end in recent times too.

not many of the "charlie coca coca" boys whispering in your ear anymore thank feck,

a lot of the beggars have disappeared too, which is kind of a pity because some of them were hilarious.

I also visited Utrecht, Eindhoven and Rotterdam and lots of other small towns, love the country as a whole, plenty to see and do, the Dutch are incredibly nice and helpful in my experience many of them will go well out of their way to help you out, and everywhere is flat so you can cycle all day without getting tired!

Oh and the quality of weed & hookers over there is next to none,

now off i go to the aerlingus website, god damn AH reminding me of the 'Dam.

Been to Amsterdam a few times, really liked it. Nice city to walk around, good vibe.Loads of history which I enjoy.

First time I went was surprised with how many people were on bicycles.
I saw a couple in their 20's on a bike, he was cycling and she was on the back. It looked liked the most natural thing in the world. It was nice and showed a difference between my culture and theirs.

Getting shit faced and going to great clubs is something I have come to expect in any capital city.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

Did not partake in the first to be different, availed of the second to be a sheep.*

May have got choices mixed up. Amsterdam isn't as liberal as you think.

Seriously, what's the attraction? Its not not as if as you can't get both in Ireland.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

I like Amsterdam, got to keep an eye out for bikes as you cross the road while stoned though.

The number of time I was nearly cycled over...

I proposed to the missus in Amsterdam, she didn't know i was going to do it, so after dinner i wanted us to take a romantic walk (so i could pop the question) but all she wanted to do was go see the red light district and try some hash.

Went in transition year when I was 16. Smoked cannabis, drank pints of beer for 30c, got a bj of a prostitute for €30.

Best School trip ever, except one of my friends got caught by a teacher while he was off his face on smoke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 497 ✭✭Mr Keek

Been there 3 times, smoked blem all weekend, and loved it.

Was in RDL and we we got caught in the middle of a Feynorde Vs Ajax mini riot, police took no crap and riot teams had everything under control in 10mins. Very wierd toking a joint and about 70 police are right in front of you.

The women in the windows were absolutly sensational, very very tempting, if I wasn't in a relationship I deffo would have got the wallet out! God knows what the feck you'd catch off them though, I'm a hypochondriac at the best of times, I'd be a nervous wreck if I paid the RDL girls a visit.

Plenty to see and do, best year was in October, the Whole of Dam Square was a Christmas market with a Carnival and Chairoplanes.......Stoned on a Chairoplane with an aerial view of the entire city going around in circles is a very scary place to be if you get the whole paranoia buzz.

The Van Geogh museum, after a joint, and The XX and all the remixes playing on your headphones has to be one of the most relaxing experiences of my life.

Dutch dance music and the way they dance is mental, like Riverdance on Steroids and Cocaine and the same time, we were like, WTF:eek:

We smoked while there, ended up on a boat trip, I have a huge fear of boats but was happy out!
