I'm on pay as you go myself. 20 a month and I get 1gb data allowance and free texts for the month. Does me perfectly.

    Can you tether on prepay?

I prefer bill pay. The key to a successful bill pay relationship, it would seem, is going SIM only and buying the phone you want SIM free. Here's a quick comparison using Three as an example and only tariffs where the phone is FREE and has all you can eat data:
iPhone 4S 16gb: SIM free = €589 from Three Shop
iPhone 4S 16gb: SIM only Classic Flex Max (30 day contract x 12 months) = €366 ex VAT
iPhone 4S 16gb: Ultimate Flex Max (18 month contract) = €2317.68 ex VAT
iPhone 4S 16gb: Ultimate Flex Max (24 month contract) = €1738.26 ex VAT
iPhone 4S 16gb: Mega Flex Max (18 month contract) = €1951.68 ex VAT

I think I just answered my own concerns. SIM only it is. :)

The only logical conclusion I can come to is that Atavan has somehow figured out a way of obtaining booze over the data stream to his phone :pac:

As I said. Smartphone contracts in Ireland are truly deplorable. SIM only is sounding more tempting and I'll just wait until the iPhone 5 arrives I think. That said, do any SIM only or 'Pay As You Grovel' tarrifs allow tethering for free?

If not, looks like I'm moving to 3.
I think o2 do but their new data rates are truly shocking, talk about ripping their customers off!

I would imagine if you have a data allowance it's possible? I've never tried it myself. Girlfriend tethered her phone a lot on her bill pay..until her phone started heating up to temperatures to be concerned about! Decided it wasn't worth doing anymore.

O2 are who I am leaving at the end of this month. They have the cheek to charge me €12.50 a month to tether to my iPad.

Read the small print. As far as I know, Three are the only network that offer tethering inclusive in bill pay packages. Every other network you have to pay for it, it doesn't come out of your data allowance in your main plan, you HAVE to buy it as an add on. It's a complete travesty. Honestly.

Probably why your bird has such a massive bill every month. Get her to buy a tethering add-on.

Jesus, they really have us by the balls here, don't they?

It was one thing which was included in her package. The insane bill was definitely due to the data allowance not being changed over correctly.

We were looking at the bill breakdown and it was charging €5.00 per 1MB. Absolutely insane. Any time she downloaded an app (you could tell on the bill by the data size, was generally about 4-5MB) it was costing €20 on average!

I'd love to just tell Meteor to **** off and get rid of my mobile alltogether to be honest. Just can't do it though, and they know it.

Just to emphasise how bad a company they are - We were in town the other day and decided to stop in as she had yet another dispute with her bill. There was a really long queue but decided to wait, it needed to be sorted.

Girlfriend finally got to the top of the queue after about 20 minutes waiting. Just as she did, the person working the till decided to walk away without any explanation. After a bit of waiting at an empty till, another staff member opened up the one beside it.

The queue reformed to the other till.

So my girlfriend walked over to the head of the new queue as she'd been at the head of the previous one.

Girl at the till 'sorry, there's a queue, you'll have to get to the back of the line'

My girlfriend 'eh, I was at the head of the line, the guy just left that till and the queue has moved over here'

girl at the till 'no, there this person is at the front of the queue' (points at someone else who hasn't been there nearly as long)

my girlfriend 'You know what? I'm really not in the humour for arguing about this. I know I'm right. So you know what? Just go **** yourself'.

And then walks out of the shop.

When a company can make your little 5 foot lady tell someone to 'go **** themselves' you know their service can't be very good.

Same as o1s1n - 20 euro meteor pay as you go FTW.

Bored bus journey boards (like now!) and email is all I need. Everything else can wait for sweet sweet wifi.

It's a life saver on public transport alright.

The only annoying this is I can't stand using the touch screen on my phone to write. I browse boards a lot during the commute and see these things I want to reply to - but by the time my response would be completed I'd probably be home :D

    Dont eMobile use meteors masts?

Actually just got a flashback of buying my 3310 on Meteor PAYG when they 1st started. 70 pounds preloaded. Jaysus that was amazing :D

I don't have any problems with meteor really.

They don't charge me for tethering either, I don't think they even know what tethering is.

That said I'm on a sim only plan with 15GB of data for about €45 a month. While I have an iPhone, I'm not on one of their iPhone plans.

Bugger it, I think I'll keep the Desire for another year and take a reduced bill for the next year instead.
If I can pick up a Xperia Play in the meantime I will.

Have to snaffle up the wifes iphone 3GS for gaming duties as well, although I may just pcik up an ipod touch instead.

    Quick question ??????
Who is the amiga guy around here.... just got a mig 500+ and the system powers on., gets a green steady light on the caps lock ( no blinking ). I am however unable to turn off the caps lock.
There is also no spinning from the floppy drive either. I will check later what colour the screen is no the TV. There has been some battery leakage but not to badly.

I also got a commodore 1541 disk drive. Seems to be working. I get no red light after powering on the drive.

I went up to Henry Street during my lunch break and had a chat with both 3 and O2.

And yet again, O2 have shown no remorse that I've chosen to jump ship. No offers, no upgrades, no deals, no sweetners, no hand shandy's.

    Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Diddly squat.

So, I've decided to jump ship to 3. Grab a Classic Flex Max SIM only tariff and my iPhone unlock code has been applied for. The day my contract expires I simply walk in to a 3 store, apply and they port my number for me, job done.

Free tethering, 'unlimited' data and a decrease in my standard base monthly charge of €75 per month to €30.50 per month. I'll keep my iPhone 4 and just buy a SIM free iPhone 4S successor, whenever it's released.

    Job done. Luvvly jubbly. :)

There has been some battery leakage but not to badly.

Take the battery out and neutralize the area around the leakage with baking soda. If not then the corrosive material can travel up the traces.

From what I've seen the Play is fairly sold out since the price drop :(

Well, after much discussion on price I've managed to get myself a working Panasonic 3DO M2 prototype with some software. I ended up going to the guys house when I was in Japan last month and we came to an arrangement.

It's on its way from Japan as of today and I couldn't be more happy :D
As a 3DO collector I've been on the lookout for one for a long time. You come across the versions they stick in information kiosks etc all the time but the actual 3DO M2 prototypes are hard to come by.

This is the model I'm getting but my one might be in better condition I think.

I thought I had a lot of rare retro stuff but this guys house was insane. I've never seen anything like it.

Oh, sorry I think I nodded off there with all the boring talk of mobile phones :P

Anyway got a small package today, Rhyme Rider Kerorican. It's brand new and absolutely mint as well! Gorgeous packaging too:

Then you open the flap on the front:

The only bad thing is I don't know how to open the packaging up without damaging it! Dilemma :(

More surprises, the instruction manual is presented on a deck of cards:

    187432.jpg

On a CDi related note, the threat of negative feedback made the seller of the CDi cough up the money to pay for the replacement laser. Just hope I don't mess up fixing it. Laser is on the way from Hong Kong.

It's gone now. Unfortunately it was so bad that I've a load of scars under my arm from it :/

You were lucky they are paying for the repair. Most would have taken the negative feedback and said jog on.

Can you get the disease back? It's not the same without you having a tentacled armpit!

Yeah I was expecting him to just take the negative feedback, just hope the repair works.

Sorry but I'm the picture of health at the moment :P

Hong Kong based replacement part you say? Expect to be replacing it again very soon...if the new one even works at all. PS3 laser diodes are a nightmare to get hold of, almost all of them are Hong Kong based junk that work for an hour.

    Is the repair tricky itself?

Very, very nice good sir

I had no idea the proto's were so...consolised with proper actual shells etc. Regards software, is there anything of note worth having for it?
