One last thing, thanks for all the help guys and putting up with the moaning. Going to watch some Princess Jellyfish to make up for the let down :)

The CDi actually working would probably be the biggest let down.

    FYP.

As for the iPhone 4S. My contract is up at the end of this month. I really don't know if I want another iPhone, although I admit I do love using Remote on my iPhone to control my Apple TV.

Might just go SIM only for now and wait until a true iPhone 4 successor arrives. Smartphone contracts are deplorable. 18 months? Really?

I'm up an upgrade with Meteor but the Desire is running fine.
Was considering the Xperia Play but, of course, its all sold out.
The Arc looks nice though, the Galaxy S2 is tres expensive!

It's odd how a few months ago I was all set to ditch the iPhone and return to Android, but I'm finding it harder to let go now.

I don't care really about the app investment. I can transfer that stuff to my iPad regardless. It's just the iPhone 'works' and does a good job of what I want it to do. Lack of Flash support doesn't bother me either.

Only thing that irks me is the small screen, but then, I have an iPad so I don't really care too much about the screen size in that respect.

Not really sure what to do...

You didn't fix that at all :P I'm on a 24 month contract which is a bit crap :(

As I said. Smartphone contracts in Ireland are truly deplorable. SIM only is sounding more tempting and I'll just wait until the iPhone 5 arrives I think. That said, do any SIM only or 'Pay As You Grovel' tarrifs allow tethering for free?

If not, looks like I'm moving to 3.

I don't think so. I just switched to three for this iPhone 4s after being on meteor pay as you go for years. As I couldn't afford to buy the phone outright. They have all you can eat data which is what I need! They still haven't ported over my number though even though my old one is now out of service =/ Plus i needed a new phone because my old iPhone 3G was ridiculously slow and the wifi doesnt work any more.

Ditto. Though 3 don't do all you can eat data on SIM only contracts. At least I don't think they do anyway. If they do, I'll do that and buy a phone SIM free.

I'd never touch a bill pay phone contract ever. Especially after seeing what happened over my girlfriends Meteor bill pay contract.

They sold her an Galaxy S, told her her account was upgraded to a smart phone one - but it wasn't.

Bill came in and it was over €2000!

They told her they'd be 'nice' and only charge her something like €150. We looked into this further and it turns out there's an EU cap on phone data charges..was nothing to do with them cutting her any breaks.

Absolute ***** about it. She managed to get the bill halved. Still had to pay though.

I'm on pay as you go myself. 20 a month and I get 1gb data allowance and free texts for the month. Does me perfectly.

    Same. Dirty dirty contracts!

I also forgot to mention, she rang up about the insane €2000+ bill and asked them not to direct debit it for obvious reasons. The guy on the phone said to cancel the direct debit immediately as it was automated so would be taken out regardless.

She canceled it. The next day her phone stopped working.

We rang up and they said they canceled her account for cutting off the direct debit

She's refused to go back to direct debit with them now in case they try to charge that insane amount. Instead the account was reactivated and once a month she rings up to pay the bill by credit card.

Absolutely insane process. I keep telling her to just change to pay as you go but she won't. Feckin lunatic.

I used to be the same o1s1n, after my mam ran up a €700 bill but 1gb is just not enough for me. I managed to hit the 20gb limit on a mobile broadband thing in a couple of weeks.

I assume, much the same as broadband advertising, that it's done in Gb rather then GB?

20Gb is only what, 2.5GB? Seems more likely for a phone..it'd be next to impossible to use 20GB on a phone. Are there even enough hours in a day to download that much Youtube content?
