In all honesty, (like males) females sometimes being a of a dominant characteristic, prefers to switch 'roles' for their own reasons -and visa versa if they are more of a submissive character, if they are given the chance.

Short version: They like to take a break from their normal character (for own reason).

Depending on what they are themselves, helps decide that they prefer often!

Are those the only two options?

What about those of us with healthy, balanced views who adapt and react appropriately to different situations ?

It depends on the woman really, not all women want the same thing.

I wouldn't base too much on the fact that your mother likes it when you cook your own meals.

My mother was killed 6 years ago in a car accident by a drunk driver.
You weren't to know that though, so I will forgive you.
    Be careful in future.

Should be a third option: "Men should be capable of adapting either way when required."

It entirely depends on the context. I've yet to be the submissive one in a relationship, but when it comes to sex, I think I would hate to be the dominant one.

There may be some truth in that.
I know 2 women who have openly admitted they would go with a man if he was rich. Looks and age wouldn't come into it if he was a millionaire for example.
I think many women had a taste of the good life in the Celtic Tiger boom years, and they became greedy and materialistic as a result. Now they are hungry to have that lifestyle again, and see a rich man as the way to attain it.

I just act as I feel appropriate at the time. If I'm wrong I've no problem admitting it or if I feel I'm right I'll stick to my guns.

What is this dominant in the modern context anyway?

What right do I have to be dominant over my GF when she earns her own money and pays her own way?

Although I was really pissed off this morning! She woke me an hour and a half early on my first day back to work because it was windy and she was scared. And no, not for some TLC. I'm in Belfast she's in Dublin.

First they came for the socialists...

Interesting. I think it is common especially with strong, confident women in a position of power to like to be in control in a relationship. They are used to getting what they want. But when it comes to sex they crave a role reversal and find it a turn on for a man to be dominant and take the lead.

Dominant in the modern day context is the man taking control, and making the decisions. Telling the woman exactly what he expects of her.
You have every right to be dominant over your girlfriend. You are the man.

If Danielle O'Donnell and Sinead O'Connor were in the sack together .......... any thoughts as to who would make the first grab?

    True.
Some women like metrosexual men who shave their chests, pluck their eyebrows, wear skinny jeans, and go on sunbeds.
Some women like men to be men, and dominate them.

Dominant is too strong a word and has connotations of the bad old days.

Women like men to be assertive and confident in their decisions which is very different to domineering.

    Assertively

    Bad old days?
    You cannot beat 1950's values.
Men were men. Women respected a man's authority.

I didn't say anything about craving submission in sex. I said I would hate to be the dominant one. that doesn't equate to always having to be the submissive one. sex can be neither. I don't crave being dominated. There's a helluva lot of stuff in the world of domination that is disgusting and just plain stupid (in my eyes) and I would never want, but I'm saying submission is something I can be ok with dependent on how far it goes, whereas dominance I can't see myself ever doing that.
