You are using Suarez's account of things again. You did it yesterday aswell. His side if the story is the one they didn't accept.

If I believed Evra's account of things I would have unequivocally condemned Suarez a long time ago. I think almost every Liverpool fan would be in agreement with that.

Why are people still arguing about context when the linguistic experts, who's evidence was accepted by Suarez, came to the conclusion that Suarez' use of the word Negro WOULD be considered offensive in Uruguay.

That is not what the report found.
    194. The experts concluded their observations on Mr Suarez's account as follows. If Mr Suarez used the word "negro" as described by Mr Suarez, this would not be interpreted as either offensive or offensive in racial terms in Uruguay and Spanish-speaking America more generally; it is being used along the lines of paragraphs 172, 173 and 175 above

He's not in Uruguay or spanish speaking america though.

The report found that the use of the word Negro in the events described by Suarez wouldn't have been used in a racial way. I mean what do you think people are arguing about in this thread ? Do you think that Liverpool fans think there is some justifiable way in which Suarez could have used the word in the way Evra describes ?

Now whilst not quite on topic and certainly not as serious a matter, but Graham Taylor who came out and slammed the use of being from another country with a different language/culture as any kind of defence for Suarez (as well as painting himself as an expert on South American culture and made claims about England's multi cultural acceptance) is also the same man who backed Tevez against Man City and in that incident he came out and said that Tevez being from another country and not speaking English should be taking into account as there could be misunderstandings between different cultures and meanings of words etc.

That is not me saying that folk should reconsider what they think about Suarez, but for me it did highlight the hypocrisy of some who get to work at the highest level of the game in England, the PFA in this case. They say what suits them from incident to incident rather than showing any kind of consistency.

Forget about it,I'm wasting my time arguing a point with someone who quotes the report one minute and then says "to hell with the report" the next.

Graham Taylor, as head of the players union, acts for players who are in opposition to their clubs. He had to come up with some bull**** for Tevez.

this was an issue between two players, so he's more able to speak freely.

He will be back for the Man Utd game so yeah, great timing,

The 4th round of the FA Cup game happens between now and then providing they beat Oldham, so he might even make the Spurs game.

I myself don't think Liverpool will appeal the decision it will just cause them more heartache. My guess is that they'll construe some statement saying that they still believe Suarez in innocent and are backing him, but feel there's no point in appealing as the FA have already made their minds up. Maybe not exactly that, but something along those lines and to that effect.

Because I can't see them appealing(as it will make them look worst and possibly get Suarez' ban extended) and I can't see them apologising and admitting they were wrong, so I don't see what else they are going to do here.

Just as I thought. No real surprise with that statement.

    Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all the support I've received these past few weeks. To my family, friends, mates of Uruguayan team and its staff and of course to the Liverpool F.C. (workers, coaches, managers, my teammates, and all who are part of the day-to-day life of this great club), and, of course, all the fans who never once allowed me to feel alone for even a single second throughout all of this. These past days, I have felt the meaning of that support more than ever: You never walk alone.

As many of you know, I was born into a humble family in a working-class neighborhood of a small country. But born and raised with the values of respect, politeness, and sacrifice. My family, from the very first club where I started playing up until my move to Europe, have instilled the values that have shaped the person I am today. Let me be absolutely clear: I've never -- ever -- had a single racial problem with any team mate, player, or person with a skin color or race different from my own. Never.

As a result, I am very upset about what has been said about me in recent weeks, all of which have been very far from the truth. This is further compounded by the helplessness I feel for not having done anything yet being accused of something I did not nor would ever do. In my country, the Spanish word for “black” is a term commonly used and does not symbolise any disrespect, let alone racism. Everything that has been said beyond that is completely and utterly false.

I will comply with the sanction, but with the acquiescence of someone who has not done anything and who feels extremely upset about what has transpired. I’m sorry for the fans and for the teammates who I will not be able to assist in this coming month. This will be very difficult for me.

My only wish is to get back to the stadium and do what I like most again, that is, to play football.

    Thank you all very much,
    YNWA
    Luis Alberto Suarez.

There is speaking freely and there is claiming that you know more about the culture and language of the country than people from there.

He went on about being an expert on South American culture and used examples of things like holidays in Agentina and Chile as proof of his "expert" knowledge on Uraguay and the culture there.

I just felt that a man who not too long ago was making a big song and dance about how the lanaguage and culture on another country had to be taken into account in a big way for one very public case, should not then be trying to make out that foreign langauage and culture should not be a major factor in a very public case months later.

It just struck me as being a show of double standards and ignorance. It also seemed a bit out of place for the head of a union to be so outspoken about someone who is a member of the Union that Taylor is head of. If Suarez ever needed to use the union for anything and it went against him, he could then claim that the head of the union was biased against him based on Taylor's public comments.

But it is a loose link to the main topic I suppose, as it is public comments made by the head of the PFA, so I won't take up too much space in this thread with it.

Plus with 2 of the games being Carling Cup semi final legs, and one FA Cup game against Oldham and winning that meaning another FA Cup one,

It is kind of half price ban sale for the league.

Liverpool not appealing now makes their first statement look even more stupid. Didn't think it possible.

How hard would it have been for something along the lines of - we apologise if mr.evra misunderstood or took it up wrong- to be used in either liverpool or suarez's statements.

You said you called him black..you changed your story several times after reviewing certain information, you were conveniently 'mis-translated' by two people in different languages to suit suit yourself!

He still doesn't seem to realise that 'in my country it's ok' is not an excuse...your not in your country!!!

By saying everything that's been said about him is false surely that means he's saying the report if full of lies!?

    Haven't read the report.

Is it accepted that Evra started the exchange with the 'you South American' thing?
    That's Evra's testimony?
