Think of Aidan McGeady and Iarla Tannion as similar to Raw. About 3 out of 10 performances/episodes are brilliant and you wonder why it is not always like that. Then when you get one of the horrible ones, you wonder they he/it exists at all :pac:

    Perfect post.

Think of Aidan McGeady and Iarla Tannion as similar to the Galway senior hurling team. About 5/6 out of 10 performances are brilliant and you wonder they don't always play like that. Then when you get one of the horrible performances, you wonder they bother playing at all

    FYP
F**k it say the same with Liverpool too.

Steve Kean and Alex McLeish put firmly back into their place today, that didn't take long. I'll die of embarrassment if Liverpool spend £25m on Darren Bent.

Any of the techie lads help me here. I want to hook my laptop up to my TV. I need a VGA/HDMI converter. Would this thing be good enough? Or can someone point me in the right direction which is not too dear?

Yeah that should do the job nicely. However if you require audio from it aswell then you'll need a 3.5mm male to male audio lead too, but you can pick these up for next to nothing in maplins etc.

Thanks. I refuse to buy anything in Maplins (overpriced thieves), but I have my old PC speakers set up under the TV anyway for the sound.

I'd wager dollars to doughnuts your laptop and TV both have a VGA input -- check out the side/back of your TV.

Look for this on both your lappie and TV

    300px-SVGA_port.jpg

You'll just need a VGA (to VGA) cable (looks like this)

    220px-Vga-cable.jpg

make sure to get a really long one. Like 5m.

It supports up to 1536p (above 1080p) so don't worry about quality - if someone tells u it's not HD; it's in their head. Seriously it looks great.

You'll also need an audio cable though. For some reason even though I connect my laptop to the TV via HDMI, it still needs audio. Although the Xbox HDMI does audio and video...

    41r9ZFtzkYL._AA160_.jpg

That's a 3.5mm Stereo Male to Two RCA Male Splitter Cable. On the LHS that's a headphone jack (on your laptop) and on the RHS is the left and right audio jacks that go into the back or side of your TV.

It goes into the "Audio In" on your TV

    TV%20Audio%20&%20RCA%20Jacks.jpg

    ---

so in summary you need :
    - make sure your laptop and TV have a VGA input
    - get a long VGA cable
    - get a long 3.5mm Stereo Male to Two RCA Male Splitter Cable

    --- :)

Yeah they're thieves alright. I was gonna say PC speakers would be the job too.

Jay is right aswell in that most modern TV's have a VGA input so check that out first as it would save ya the hassle of buying the converter.

I hook my laptop to my TV using a S-Video cable, but that's because my TV is pretty old and doesn't have VGA connection, only Scart.

Cheers Jay, but the issue is my Laptop does not have a HDMI output. Some of my more technically minded buddies have tried with a simple VGA/HDMI cable and it just does not work. Ugh.

Hmm. Sorry just trying to figure this out
does your laptop have a VGA slot?
does your TV have a vga slot?

see if ur tv has a hdmi slot it's v likely it has a vga one too. if not then we'll have to think of a way around it.

I think my laptop has a VGA slot, yes. Looks like where a joystick would be plugged in. But it does not have a HDMI slot

I dont think my TV has a VGA slot. It does have a HDMI one as its a HD ready.

If you can find out the serial # i can check it. But if that doesn't work; then ya vga-hdmi converter; check ebay and amazon.co.uk first though :)

    Dell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,014 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

:( i can't find it. Well best bet is to see if u can look at the sides and back of the TV to see if there's a VGA port -- esp if it's Dell i'd be surprised if there wasn't one. But if there isn't, then VGA/HDMI converter is your best bet.

Jaysus, i was shopping around there and it isn't cheap. like at least 40 pounds. This is the cheapest one i could find. Worth looking on ebay more though : here

Make sure not to get the cable -- that's for other devices, not laptop to TV!

Well thats 90+ minutes of my life i'd like back. Utterly pathetic losing 3-0 to a side who never left 1st gear and never had to. I LOL'd when Kompany got MOTM for outmarking the worst buy in the history of currency. If Carroll and Downing weren't English i'd love to know how Sky would truly feel about them.

How much is your car worth, how many years no claims have you/penalty points, are you full license, how long if you are?

Youve been driving long enough that they shouldnt make much of a difference between TPFAT and fully comp.
Now, if you were me, 23 only recently passed test with no immediate driving experience, your looking at the difference of about 400 quid.
But obviously theres more risk of me going out and wiping out the car than someone with experience, like yourself. Just for the record, my insurance is 170 a month. :o

But the footnote is really you will only know if you ask for a quote. How much is your insurance at the moment, if you dont mind me asking?
You might be better off just going with 3rd party cos 02 puntos arent worth too much these days. So if you were in an accident thats your fault, the excess would probably cover the car.

its usually about 8% more if you do it that way.

    So €545 x 8% = €44(ish). Altogether about €589.
    €58.9 over 10 months or €49 over 12.
