    LT button.

Only ever done it accidently. Dunno if there any "option" plays in Madden.

Apparently there is a read option play, though it may only be available in custom playbooks...

I'm having a lot of trouble online in some situations lads, just wondering if anyone can offer some advice on which plays I should use?

Ravens playbook for the most part if that makes any difference.

I'm generally alright on 1st and 2nd downs, but seem to struggle on 3rd and fairly long. On say, 3rd and 8 my opponent will often go with 3 or 4 WR's, so I tend to use man coverage or cover 2 (sink). Usually I use that on the 4-3, but I've tried nickel and a few others but can't seem to get it together. This is the big one for me really, as even on 1st and 2nd down if my opponent uses a lot of receivers I find it hard to deal with.

Also, once my opponent gets in the red zone I'm very poor at defending it. Blitzing, zone, man coverage - I just can't seem to find anything that puts a stop to my opponent in the red zone.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

On offense I have an average points scored per game of around 25 which I'm happy with. I've got a lot better at seeing blitzes coming and using my audible to mix it up. I still struggle throwing the ball a lot but as it was a few months ago I still make stupid mistakes like throwing into double coverage, not waiting for receivers to finish their routes, etc. I think I like to try and make the big play too often so I should focus more on plays such as slants to pick up the 5/6/7 yards at a time rather than using verticles so quickly and often.

I haven't played in quite a while before the other day but I found those things I've discussed very frustrating.

    Cheers for any help!

Read this great post from Berty
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=70031270

    Learn to fake the blitz
So you might be Cover Two but you fake blitz and move your linebackers to the line.

I'd do this immediately when the players line up for example when I reckon it's pass but I fear getting ripped up the middle by a draw play so I want to discourage this
Berty's Jets are deadly for doing this

Ball is snapped, QB goes back to pass and your players are sitting in zone
It's one of the options when you are on D, should be easy to find on the menu

Before that post of Bertys I used ask madden and picked what I thought looked the best. After that post I started using the playbook and I have gained a good knowledge of how the defenses work. Well a working knowledge and I know what plays I want to call against certain things.

Its also good to get to know your audibles. Learn how to move your players left or move them right. Sometimes if I recognise a run play up the middle I pinch my linebackers so that there is no gap in the middle for example. Things like these make a really big difference. I find that my defense improves as the game goes along as I get a feel for what the other player might do and how to oppose it. That might be totally dis-proven by the scores of my games, I don't know but I like to think it does.

Actually looking at the defensive stats, mine are pretty bad even though I don't think I have been that bad. Ohwell.

just reading Bertys post on defensive schemes now it all starts to make sense!!!

With a 24-7 defeat at the Bengals, the Texans have almost no chance of the playoffs. Congratulations to the Bengals, who look like the real deal. Couldn't cope with their offense at all, and with my biggest weapon Peterson never getting into the swing of things, the game was only really going one way. Two red-zone turnovers in the first half really sucked the life out of the boys from Houston.

A tense game with big playoff implications, the Bengals were chasing the No.2 seed and trying to stave off the late-charging Ravens for the AFC North while the Texans needed a win to keep up with the Titans and Ravens in the race for the No.6 seed.

Teams seem fairly level but Bengals at home will take it
    Bengals +6
Thanks for the awesome preview for this highly anticipated showdown.

    1st Half
Texans receive, and start driving moving the ball pretty well as Sam Bradford mixes in a lot of short throws using Adrian Peterson more in the passing game as the Bengals struggle to adjust.
Until... the Texans reach the redzone and Bradford throws an INT, big momentum changer as moments later Cutler throws a screen pass to Michael Turner (yes you heard right, Turner caught a ball despite his hands of clay) who made on defender miss and showed surprising speed to score a 73yd TD.
    7-0 Bengals

The teams take turns with 3 & Out's for three possessions, until Bengals driving and Jay Cutler throws a red zone INT trying to find Maclin in double coverage instead of throwing away.

Texans take the ball and drive all the way to the Bengals red zone, where they get goal line fever again as Adrian Peterson sees daylight on a draw play and fumbles as two defenders mash him.

As the half comes to a close the Bengals drive taking some long shots at the end zone on the way, and finally settle for a 40yd FG as time expires.
    10-0 Bengals

    2nd Half
Bengals receive the kick and a good mix of Michael Turner and some nice Cutler throws move them down the field. A lot of running plays as they edge closer to the red zone, then after seemingly making the first down on 3rd & 2, they get called back for holding. Facing 3rd & 12, Cutler finds Hernandez for the 1st down. Turner fumbles on the next play but thankfully an O-lineman falls on it for a 3yd gain. On 3rd & 5 in the redzone Cutler finds Santonio Holmes for a TD.
    17-0 Bengals

To start the fourth quarter, the Texans punt the ball away beautifully to pin the Bengals at their own 6yd line. On 3rd down the ever-[insert insult here] Jay Cutler fumbles on his own 2 yd line as the Texans defende scoops it up for a TD.
    17-7 Bengals

Texans go for, and fail with, the onside kick. Bengals run down the clock with Turner and eventually rumble in for a TD on 4th & 1 from the 2yd line with about 2:00 left.
    24-7 Bengals

Texans fumble on the return but luckily recover, and then Sam Bradford drives up the field against the Prevent, eating up yards with passess to Hartline & Smith, and a 15yd scamper of his own, until the Texans again reach the redzone, only to be denied. Turnover on downs and Bengals run down the clock.

    Some Stats
Hard to know who won the QB battle:
    Cutler 11/23 (47%) for 225 yards, 2 TD - 1 INT, a fumble and two delay-of-game penalties
    Bradford 23/35 (65%) for 204 yards, 0 TD - 1 INT

The battle of the running backs was very surprisingly won by Michael Turner (12 rushes for 98 yds [8.1 YPC] & 1 reception for 73 yds with a TD) over Adrian Peterson (7 rushes for 27 yds & 5 receptions for 17 yds).

Good game all-round, couldn't get you on the mic Pudsy, but probably best for you seeing as I'm a bit under the weather at the moment.

Once this week is advanced, I will do a full write-up on the AFC playoff picture which has a very intriguing race for the No.6 seed, and two kinda-division races.

    Happy New Year Everyone!

Only four games left this game week.

etloveslsd has got the CPU's Cowboys.

Adro has got the Cardinals which is a must win game for him as he really needs to win that division to guarantee his spot in the playoffs.

Rizzo's Eagles will be looking to extend their lead at the top of NFC East.

Then we have the last human v human game between Specsy and B*stardPrince. BPrince will be looking to improve his record and get some confidence in his team and look towards rebuilding his team for next year.

Unfortunately, my sh*tty internet at homes got me disconnected twice and I can't play my game. So really need the CPU to do me a favour to keep me in place for the wildcard position.

The next 3 weeks are going to be very interesting in the AFC!

You can join now if you want. Just you aren't allowed take a team that is in the playoff hunt as that would be unfair on everyone else.

Just updated the standings list excel file here

Only major change so far as a result of week 14 is that the Cincy Bengals have (for now) moved up the playoff seeding and have obtained a 1st round bye. Both the Bengals and the Colts are 10-3 (0.769) but the Bengals have beaten the Colts so they win the tiebreak procedure. NFC North is still on course to send 3 teams to the playoffs.

How did the Bengals overtake the Bills for the number two seed?

    Bills are 10-3 also

You have to win your division to gain a seed above 5-6 . Since Berty has bribed the officials in the AFC East i can no longer win the division therefore i become the number 5 seed with my record. Which i believe i lock next week with a win?

The 4 division winners are seeded 1,2,3 & 4 based on their overall win-lose-tie percentage.
Two wild card qualifiers from each conference (the non division-champions with the best winning percentages), which are seeded 5 and 6.

That's why the Bills and your Ravens are seeded 5 and 6 respectively even though they both have higher win %'s than the Denver Broncos (#4)who are winning their Division.

oh yes, I know all this

I just saw the records and didn't think of it :o

#4 going to the AFC Worst :pac:

One more win will get you the #5 seed.
The only teams that are left in playoff contention are the Bills, Ravens and Titans.

If you all end up 11-1 in a three way, then the Titans get eliminated due to the fact that they have lost to both the Ravens and the Bills.
Then you will win the tie breaker over the ravens because you have beaten them.

Edit: Of course this doesn't take into account that the Ravens and Titans could potentially still win their divisions which would render all of the above information useless :o

Good to know. My star's on defense will get a nice rest. While I can't name a star on my offense ........... ( I cannot wait for the draft and the off season trades ! )
