When is it acceptable/unacceptable to hire a woman/man for their looks?

If anyone has seen the show "Stacked" with Pamela Anderson, they will know that the premise of the show, and the script, couldn't work unless she is an absolute little belter. Similarly, with Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise.

I worked in my brother's bar in London and we needed a new barperson. He interviewed a few people with good experience and good references, who, in a meritocracy, should have got the job.

Instead, he gave the job to an absolute little peeler with no experience. Why? Because, lonely gents are more likely to stay longer if there is some eye-candy serving them.

Now don't get me wrong, a good-looking girl with a personality is the grail, (over a much better-looking girl who is stand-offish) , but, when is it acceptable to hire someone for their looks/youth?

I think it is never acceptable, but I know it goes on.

I was buying a car in the last month and one observation I made, in all the show rooms the receptionists seem to be very attractive women.

Also when I enquire about gym membership, its always misses tight gym slip that comes out to give the pitch.

Tbh, I think looks are important to a degree depending on the shop, for example:

Car Sales man/woman competing against other Car Sales man/woman

    Both have exact same experience.
    Same qualifications
    Same schools
    Same type of personality

    So it's a tough choice.

Then you notice their facial features. Who will attract more customers? Who will want to go and talk to 'that Car Sales man/woman'

    Looks do come into it.

In the above example, hiring someone good-looking is totally fine (as long as they're not COMPLETELY incompetent) because, like you say, it can boost business. Nice to have eye candy while having a few sups as the pub is an escapist sort of place.

Good looking staff improve moral around the workplace and entices competitiveness between staff to be the best at what they do.

It shouldn't be done, and in a perfect world it wouldn't.

But in reality, sex sells, so good looks will get you far.

Depends on the job. For some jobs, image is important, it helps sell.

It's the way of the world.

Of course men will go to a pub where there's attractive barstaff, that are single & they think they'll get off with.

Good God, who want's to be served by some retard who can pull the best pint in the world?

It is vitally important to me that the pub I choose to spend my hard earned cash in has something nice for me to look at while I do it

    Preferably female

    EDIT
And that bit of philosophical wisdom is my 8000 post, boo ya!

A new Personel Manager just started in my work. It is because she's charming? No she's a cunt. Is it because of her valuable experience and work ethic? No everyone hates her because she's a cunt and is making things worse for us and will probably be fired soon because she's an unreasonable bitch. Is it because she has lovely blonde hair, luscious lips, a huge rack and a goddamn fine looking arse that giggles when she walks? Yes. She. Is. A. CRACKING chick. Tbh I can get over the fact she's a sap because she is gorgeous!

    It happens OP.

This is exactly why most pubs have gorgeous moran's working on the floor serving drinks (aka chatting to each other, doing no work
and giving anyone a dirty look who doesn't grace their palm with a euro or two)

I'd prefer to have an average or moderately good looking bird who can remember more than three drinks at a time and who brings
me my pint with a bit of head one it, not flat! :D

In supermarkets I prefer the most attractive checkout girls handling my goods.

I don't think it's ever acceptable but I think employers do it because they think (and perhaps they are have a point) that if they have attractive and friendly staff customers will be more likely to frequent the place.

Peeler? - never heard that one before.

people with good experience and good references, who, in a meritocracy, should have got the job.

It still is a meritocracy. People just act like looks aren't a criteria on par with education/experience, being born beautiful (not that id know directly) is equivalent to getting a free masters degree in many situations.

anyway ..... that airline, the middle eastern one, can't think of the name... they seem pretty up front about using women with natural talent as hostesses as they (airline) consider themselves as a distinguished quality airline.
Shareholders would probably be happy with this policy...so i'd guess they'd consider it one of the times when firmness of ass and symmetry of face is a requirement.

I bet if they did a study on which checkout girls are most busy with male customers they could establish some kind of average pervert percentage, number thing.

I prefer whoever doesn't try and strike up a conversation with everyone and just serves them as fast as they can so I can get the fcuk out of the supermarket.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you're a bloke in his thirties who feels he's let himself go a little bit, rather than a woman in her thirties who's just had a kid.

*Enter Juan with a full head of hair and a torso that is quite frankly ridiculous to the point of being intimidating*:pac:
