I did it a couple of times, both times went though perfectly. I guess Sky just don't want to support UPC.

Yes, it usually does work on Digiweb Metro or fibre (ex Smart), Magnet fibre or UPC cable. But no-one can Guarantee that it will.
    UPC don't.

    Eircom won't guarantee a 56k connection either !!
The fastest they've got to support is a fax machine on an analogue line as far as I am aware.

Sky wouldn't have much of a leg to stand on if your phone line, regardless of who your operator was, didn't support a 56k modem reliably.

Technology's moved on and 56k modems are a pretty obsolete communication technology that's no longer considered in specs for some of these services.

The box should have a slow modem, tolerant of VoIP and anything else for verifying its location i.e. maybe V.23.

Sky Interactive should be plugged into your broadband over Ethernet.

Surely a quick way to do it would be for Sky to check that both boxes are on the same subnet and can communicate with each other. Then they're probably in the one building.

    Very interested in this thread.

I would like to drop my eircom broadband and phone for UPC while keeping my sky+ multi room.

Saw above (and in a separate thread) that it seems you can perform the call backs through UPC if you connect it correctly.

I was a bit nervous though in case it doesnt work when i try and called Sky on it. They have confirmed that they are aware of an issue with call backs via UPC but if you can attempt the connection and it doesn't work you can call out a sky engineer to confirm that you have connected it to a phone line even though it is not working. This would cost €100 but would mean that you are effectively exempt from the multi room call back.

I had all this from a customer service guy who had checked it with his manager. I know, not very official and that's the catch! Before I go and sign up to a UPC contract that may or may not work I wanted to check whether anyone else has had this message from Sky?
    Thanks.
