Just had a look at the Balon D'or list on the soccer forum quite the rib tickler as always the manager list too even managed to produce a smirk. Arsene Wenger REALLY his mam must of requested he be put on it. My vote would be Messi clearly the best for the last 3 years and Oscar Washington Tarbarez who's done a amazing job with Uruguay.

I think it will be a Barca double for Messi and Guardiola

Don't blame him, can't see Ireland winning a game here to be honest. Maybe a draw against Croatia but I fancy Croatia and Italy to battle it out for 2nd place in the group.

I'd say the nation held their breath when it was a 50% chance to get England though!

Cassano defied the doctors and was playing badly recently according to Eamo I LOL'd when he said Pirlo was doing rubbish at Milan despite him doing great at Juventus(better than playing in America anyway). We'll struggle because we will be asked to go there and win at least one group game and we can't take it to a team without exposing our back 4. Croatia and Spain got very playable in between half five and six o'clock in the rte studios.

I'm happy enough with the group. If you get an easy group and go out it feels like an anti-climax. If you get through an easy group you have to play a top team anyway.

I think it's great after all these years away that we get to play the World and European champs, plus a massive football nation like Italy. With a bit of luck we might just have a chance of sneaking through. Should be a hell of a party anyway.

England's group looked easy to me at first glance but they have France in their first match I think (without Rooney) and if they lose that then there is huge pressure on the remaining games, one of which is against a host nation, which will be like an away game.

Fúck Ireland anyway my Galway flag is going up next June and will be taken down and broken over me knee when we get knocked out in the Quarters of the All Ireland. Looking forward to the AWESOME on paper group b games not looking forward to Engorlund hyping themselves up to only "underachieve" again.

C'MON THE UNDER-AGE TEAMS!!!!!! Seriously next summer could be the re-awakening with all the John Lees gone. Football couldn't be any worse than last year.

    Huh?

We can beat Italy and Croatia. Nothing major to fear there. Spain on the other hand...

If we come second and england top their group...

I'd love if we turned into a more pig ugly team than Donegal if its possible and won the Sam. The sport is heading in that direction anyway so we might aswell get started early playing this anti football brand of the game. Surely and sadly Padraig Joyce is retiring.

I'm worried more about Italy and Croatia than Spain. People are seriously over-rating a team that couldn't beat Russia. Really like Matri too. Could be one too watch if his Juve performances are a good indicator.

I think we'll see Michael Meehan retire very soon too.

Michael D Higgins will nearly need to be called up at this stage. Still now we can weed out our talented players and call up the lorries and hatchetmen to begin the era of blanket defending, handpass spamming and poor kicking in Gaelic football.

Its a great draw, I'm delighted the likes of Duff, Keane, Dunne and Given bet to play some glamour ties. We'll acquit ourselves better trying to contain th likes of Spain than trying to go and best the likes of Greece or Poland.e

Sure anybody can beat anybody really, didn't Switzerland beat Spain in the World Cup last year.

I didn't think too much of Croatia until I 'wikipediad' them, but they actually have a lot of quality in their squad, plenty of experience, and most of the players are at decent clubs which are playing regular European football. I know this will count for f*ck all come match day, but I reckon they are a good shout to get 2nd in the group.

I just hope we can get a result against Croatia in the opener. At least that will make Trap's match against his homeland in the last game meaningful.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

If we don't beat Croatia we're out. End of story.

We'll be home after a week. A nil all draw with Croatia and two narrow defeats to Spain and Italy.
    Hope I'm wrong though.

I'm going with 3 draws all boring and Rte playing a song about us being brave My Hero by the Foo Fighters perhaps on about them being great. Dunphy will then toss a pencil instead of a biro, it is a recession after all. Seriously the way rte were talking up the oppositions weaknesses you'd swear we were a football nation with a pedigree for success.

Personally, I'm hoping for another Italian implosion. Croatia we might be able to beat, Spain... Well the less said about that one, the better probably.

Italy will be a tougher game than Spain imo but we need to beat Croatia to stand at least a chance to progress further

The ting I hate about big sporting occasions is that people who have no clue about football will be experts on our chances. Asked everybody talking about on Facebook what kind of an impact Darijo Srna will have. No ****ing clue what I was on about.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

Pirlo is 32! lads 32! The old Meelan relic he's 7 whole months older than that Xavi lad who drifts in and out of games for Spain. Quite happy now Milan won, Pirlo didn't play for Milan nor has he all season, maybe he's gone on holiday. Robinho missed a worse sitter than the one against Barca didn't think that was possible.

They are probably more worried about Boban, Boksic and Davor Suker.

That's if they can take their mind of Dino Baggio's threat to the Irish defense

Don't forget to keep on eye on that Schillaci lad when Ireland play Italy, I hear he's a real threat in the scrum.
