    Another one:
I remember in 5th class of primary school, there was a football blitz or something on. I don't really do sport, so had no football boots. One of the teachers loaned me one of their son's football boots. I left them there, realised a few minutes after getting on the bus .

When I was 14 I lost my black ipod nano. Reported it as stolen and got a new pink one with a bigger memory for free

I had a Motorola V620 mobile stolen out of my bag when working in a new school in Newcastle West. It must have been one of the other contractors as the school hadn't opened to students at the time.

Standing in Lr Abbey St today , across from Wynn's hotel, A scobe on a bike whizzed passed & snatched my phone right out of my hand. A 2-week old HTC sensation, gone.

Apparently this crime is on the increase... Garda at store st. helpful & sympathetic, he reckoned it would be sold off in an hour or two.

I feel a bit stupid writing this - but hopefully it will act as a useful warning for others.

Left my boots behind at a match in the middle of nowhere today, they've probably already been stripped for parts

From experience, 99% of small-scale non-confrontational theft is opportunistic. Most people are not security-conscious in the least.

It has also been my great pleasure to intervene in two attempted thefts, in broad daylight, and stop the thefts.

My watch (present from an ex) on the tram. I was standing and holding onto the rail and someone must have popped the clasp, it was rush hour and I didn't notice.

Couple of months later I was in the Carribbean where jewellers are really cheap and bought a much nicer one, same brand but with a safety clasp. WAAAAAAY prefer it, and it was a present to myself :D.
