    Digweb Metro Home
Whatever you do, don't go over the DL limit, else face the wrath of 0.12 mb download speeds for a month. A.K.A half the speed of dial-up.

That's indicative of what I always get.

I don't want to start a new thread but I'm curious to know....

    Do Vodafone throttle Video sites?

I'm having a horrible time watching video from anywhere but YouTube effectively. I've compared my streaming ability with friends in various parts of the country on Eircom and UPC and they can stream the same video I can't even if they are only getting 3mb of broadband.
I was fine on Eircom before switching.

I've only recently switched to Vodafone and I don't like their attempts at incorrect billing or the fact I raised this as an issue a week ago and am still awaiting comment...

Tell me, how do you determine your actual speeds? Speedtest is great but depending on which server you choose, can affect the results. I find some servers slow and others fast.

    Go here : http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

begin the download of the Linux ISO this should give your proper download speed i started the download just to see am getting 840 Kb/s .

You don't have to wait for the file to finish cancel it when you see the highest speed that your internet is hitting alot more relaible than speedtest.net .

My 50 meg went a bit FUBAR earlier too, turn off your router, and turn it back on again after about 10 seconds, and let it reconnect. SHould fix it.

I have tried all the servers Dublin seems to be best.
I have two network speed monitors on the laptop.
When streaming from sockshare for example I'll be getting stuttery speeds while the same video being streamed by a mate is working just grand. I've tried with two mates in different parts of the country. It seems odd...

Vodafone advertise up to 8Mb download speed. I've never seen it go over 4.5Mb tho.
Anyone with experience off getting better speeds with Vodafone got any tips?

It could be a limitation of your line.
Have you ever been with another provider for DSL.?

We recently switched from Vodafone to Eircom, and have received bills from Eircom. Does anybody have any idea why it still says Vodafone when I do a speedtest.net test?

    1633429096.png

Also, my broadband has only dis-improved since switching to Eircom (which was not my choice.)

You need to log into your router settings and sign out of the vodafone service,, and sign in with eircoms.. I think it's Username eircom@eircom.net with password broadband1
    You are still using Vodafone.

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to try to sort out the router settings now. But before that, just a quick question. You said I'm "still using Vodafone." Does that mean I'm going to be charged by Vodafone?

    Thanks.

Yea its a limitation on the line. I rang Vodafone and was told that the line has been upgraded to next generation, but is maxed at around 4Mb.

I was with BT broadband a few years back but changed to Vodafone automatically when they shut down their service.

Hello all......I just switched to upc today 25meg

Everytime I do a speed test (speedtest.net)it's giving me a different result. When I do a speed test on the upc site it's telling me it's around 23 download.

What are you supposed to believe?

edit - those tests are all wireless.

You shouldn't expect to get the full speed over wireless...
I use wireless also on UPC (Cisco modem) and it can range from 10mb - 21mb, if i hook up my ethernet wire I can achieve upto 30mb.
I've noticed even with a good signal speeds can decrease at various times, probably due to congestion on the channel, switch around from 1 - 2 and 11.

Yep, 192.168.1.1 click ''set-up'' - under wireless, click "Basic" channel 2 or 11 works best for me.
