Just wondering how Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil compares to more expensive fish oils, the 450ml bottle is less than a fiver and has 828mg EPA and 735mg per 10ml. Seems pretty for the price, whats the catch?

The only catch is that it's not in pretty capsules and flavoured with things that don't taste like cod liver oil. Personally, I'm a fan of cod liver oil liquid. I often put it over my tuna, so no fishy aftertaste.

If there is a shortage of cod, where does all the cod liver oil come from?

Seven seas heat their CLO and add synthetic retinol (vitamin A) to replace the natural vitamin A that has been destroyed.

Synthetic retinol is what gave birth defects to children in some studies of vitamin A supplementation in pregnant women. Dietary A did not have the same effect.

You can get fermented CLO which is much better. It's expensive but the quality is much higher.

Re: shortage of cod. Cod livers are a by product that are normally wasted. Even with reduced cod there's still a lot of cod livers left over.
