I'm confused as to why ,with all the back slapping over the jnlr figures that Nova has "lost" so many dj's in its first year...Enda,Hugh,Louise..and now i hear John Power is abandoning ship.....Its clear who's really running the station...and it aint Kevin....

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THEY ABANDONED SHIP?
QUICK TURNAROUND SEEMS TO BE FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH ON RADIO NOW WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT.

..I think .."its our way or the highway"....is the attitude on Nova...wonder who'll be next to not agree with their music policy..

Who cares about the "in-house" politics. I rather like the Nova Music playlist at the minute.

For me Greg Gaughran and Marty Miller are the best presenters on Nova.

This is all supposition I suspect. Enda Murphy, we were told initially, had moved behind the scenes to concentrate on sales, one of his areas of expertise I understand. Bear in mind that Bay Broadcasting are shareholders in both Radio Nova and 4FM, so his move could well have been a strategic move - more for the benefit of 4FM.

Hugh O'Brien's hallmark since the late '80s has been to be involved in the initial lineups of stations, during weekends, and leave after about a year. He has a fulltime job as solicitor. He left Century Radio before it had left the stage. He was with Lite FM for its first year and likewise with Dublin's Country 106.8.

I thought I heard Louise Maloney's voice being used for something only yesterday, although I have to accept that she his no longer a presenter if you say so.

I heard John Power this morning - "Flashback" now includes the slot previously occupied by Hugh O'Brien. When is John leaving Nova?

As said by another poster, turnarounds in stations are hardly a revelation. In fact, the core lineup in Radio Nova has not changed that much - Greg Gaughren, Pat Courtenay, Marty Miller, Mike Maloney, Carol Dooley and Pat James are all still there. Rick Wakeman is still recording his bits for Saturday evenings and Barry Egan is still interviewing. That said, is Breffni Clack still involved? I haven't heard her for a while now. Initially, as well as newsreading, she presented "Flashback", but then the latter role was dropped.

By the way, who's really running the station ??

If you go to the Nova site and click on "Programme schedule".. click on the shows..there are some that dont open up...maybe these people are next to go.....looks like theyre slowly weeding out the talent..

BTW..Declan, you didnt mention Dee..she's a good presenter with a good knowledge of music...better than Miller anyday....and easier on the eye/ears..:p

It also seems they've a huge turn-over in other staff... I see a posting for a job in production for Nova again. This must be the 3rd time this has been up since launch?

...and they've included Alana Morrisette into the play list.

    Going downhill rapidly.

    Shame.

I stopped listening to Nova a few months ago, playlist is far far too repetitive and feels like it's the same bloody songs every time I put it on in the car.

TBH i think theyre all over the place...., I heard JP was leaving too.....Theyre going to be left with only a couple of DJ's soon.....maybe thats her their cunning plan...;)

I omitted Dee Woods because I was referring to the original lineup of presenters who are still there. Initially, Dee was a newsreader, or at least thats when I first heard her on Nova. Dee was the first replacement for Breffni Clack on Flashback and then replaced Enda in the evenings.

I do like her style and indeed her looks!

Radio Nova has to be a general catchall rock station in order to get the listeners and seems to be getting a lot of positive feedback. I know plenty of people out there who are quite happy with the general music mix. Not everybody is as precious about music as some of us here are (including me)!

    Yea, but Alanis Moressette????

I know plenty of people who listen too (self included but only limited shows) but its only because its a bit different to what else thats on and they all say the same thing about the repetition...it seems the only ones not listening to Nova are Nova....

Think you'll find more tripe like this in the future playlists...a la Ms.Dooley..;)

I don't think its fair or accurate to blame the likes of A. Morisette on Carol Dooley.

Whats in the playlist isn't part of her purview.

Its not naive at all, its factual.

Carol Dooley isn't programme controller or head of music.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Carol Dooley is PD and Greg Gaughren is the music controller. This mix of music begins to make sense when you consider Greg was with 98FM, Century Radio, Rock 104/FM1O4, Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 and East Coast FM..... a very wide spread to be expected and quite a lot of easily predicted tunes during the daytime schedule.

Unlike us, they cannot afford to be too precious about their music, in order to keep the listeners. I would worry, though, if they sound too much like the old Rock104. Rock104 was a stage in the life of a station which was licenced to play commercial music and, as such, could stretch the meaning of "rock" as much as it wanted. Nova, on the other hand, has a more specific licence. In other words, Rock104 was a rebranded station to be rock-oriented while Radio Nova is a rock station.

Nova is not a rock station. It was branded (I think) as classic rock. There seems to be a shift recently to "guitar based" music.Just listen to their promo. So not strictly "rock".
If I recall, Alanis Morissette has been on the playlist since the start.

Why does Marty still need to remind us of his name and station every link? Does my head in. The weakest link IMO.

Don't think Greg was ever with 98FM or Century.......

He was a long time veteran of the classic pirates (Nova/Q102 etc.)back in the 80's.

Given Dooley's radio experience its suprising that the music on Nova is so poor....for some reason she seems to have the last say , maybe the lads are afraid of her....
She clearly doesnt give a "toss" about the audience....:p

    Geoff O'Brien is PD.

Your comments about Carol Dooley are clearly inaccurate and unfair.

Nova was great when it kicked off,but like all things novelty that is exactly what it becomes.

I can't listen to the same burnt out dad rock ****e every 4 hours. Dj's that can't speak for more then 22 seconds, and the over all feel of the station for me is " I just don't want to be here".

Nova " seriously overweight , bad body odour, balding, northside Dublin taxi driver music "

Greg worked afternoons on 98FM from it's opening day until the end of May 1991. He then moved to Century where he did 3PM-5:45PM weekdays and Sunday's. He was the last ever DJ on the station when they closed in November 1991.

Radio Nova won the licence for the classic rock statipn covering Dublin and its commuter belt. Surely, that is a kind of "rock station" or am I missing something in the definition?

Think you'll find the WHOLE list of artists on here.....Alison Morrisette is a bonus track I think....:p

    I was being specific.:o

If you recall when Nova started, there were a few complaints here about the lack of certain rock bands on the playlist. The reason is that many people thought it was rock station in the broad sense.
