It was reported to be Hispanic lead character before the game came out, so people are persisting with it even though it almost certainly isn't. The guy from the trailer sounds like a middle aged Italian-American, like someone doing an impression of Ray Liotta, so the voice we are hearing almost certainly belongs to the guy who we see most of in the trailer. The Tommy Vercetti shout would seem on the money apart from the fact the guy from the trailer might not be old enough and I doubt such a major game release would have a lead character in his 60's... although I certainly would have no problem if they did. I'd say he's a completely new character though.

What I wanted from this game was
-the engaging and fun story of VC
    -the scale of SA
-the living, breathing city of IV
and so far I'm very optimistic. LA is huge, much bigger the New York City, plus the added rural areas in the game (which might include a few towns) means it should be the same size as SA, BUT with the sense of life and character of Liberty City in IV. I'd much prefer one city that seems alive rather then 3 half-assed ones, which is the reason I spent most of SA just dossing around between cities.

But the best thing about the trailer? No f*cking mobile phones...

Except it's definately a hispanic voice. And LA is full of Hispanic immigrants, New York is more of a European/Italian American kinda city.

What exactly are you basing that on? Because it doesn't sound Hispanic to me!

I'm basing it on the sound of his voice and the way it sounds unmistakeably Hispanic

i knew he wasnt hispanic or italian you retards.its been confirmed that its definately ned luke,an actor

One thing that I've noticed is Rockstar often has the main character somewhat resemble the voice actor, they did this with some degree with Niko, but especially with CJ and Luis for example. Now, take a look at the rumored voice actor Ned Luke. Looks a lot like our man on the balcony. Which would not only mean he is the voice actor, but he voice actor of the protag.

Take a look at the nose and the eyes especially:

er... isnt there a lot of puerto ricans in new york?!

I don't think he sounds hispanic either but there's no need for calling people "retards" because you perceive their opinions to be wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭moesyzlak

    yea.......but its fun

Jeez guys....to use a cliche, it's just a game. No need to get so angry over it....

It doesn't sound Hispanic to me. Sounds more African American. But that's just how it sounds to me. I could be totally wrong.

Don't see why there still seems to be people arguing about wheter there are more hispanics or Italians in NY...we have a setting people. It's Los Santos.

Enough of that or you wont be sticking around long enough to discuss if your theory is right or not.

    oooooooooooooooooooohhhh im so naughty

im not a "troll" whatever that means.im giving the right info straight from gtaforums.

honestly how could people even think he sounded hispanic,i saw it all over the forums and cringed.its definately ned luke. i think hes the main protag as hes the narrator and is seen a lot in the trailer. there could be more pro's (the two darker dudes, one in car,one running,+ hobo)

And we're all eternally grateful. Still doesn't give you the right to insult other posters.

I have a feeling rockstar done some tweaking of the audio to give it a sound that the character speaking could be from a few different places.
As someone said previous, r* are very good at marketing their games, or more so giving reasons to the public to market their games for them. So id say they knew that there would be many opinions over his voice to keep people thinking until the next trailer.

And nobody thought he sounded Italian, but Italian American. Which is pretty much general east coast American.

Seems like good ol Ned has deleted his twitter now :D

    ned-luke-twitter.png

Btw, the old guy's background is supposedly he is from the mid-west hence the weather remark in the trailer. Chicago to be more precise.

    I reckon it's Tommy Vercetti's son.

I don't know, that would mean Tommy had a son at the time of Vice City but it was never mentioned for some reason.* I mean, the guy in the trailer looks older than 25/26. Still you never know.

    * Having not played VC in years, maybe there is some sort of mention of family but not that I remember.

Just before Vice City Tommy was in prison for 15 years for killing 11 men. Either way, VC was in 1986, which means if it was Tommy's son, he'd be 25/26. Unless he had him before prison, where he'd be 40/41. Possible, but unlikely.

I still don't think we'll ever see or hear of Tommy Vercetti again. In GTA:IV, there's graffiti on a wall with all the GTA3-era protagonists names on it with RIP or something like that

    2684full.jpg

It's still possible, but I doubt we'll ever see any of them again

who does that mention i cant spot it

for everyone who said the voice didn't sound hispanic at all, it sounded nearly identical to Danny Trejo's voice imo, watch any video of him on youtube. Especially at the start of the trailer you can definitely hear a bit of a hispanic twang. Now if it's indeed Luke then it's fine, maybe it was just the way he said it.

There's no indication that that guy will be the main character either, I'd be disappointed if it was an older guy and unsure how they could justify having an old guy pegging it around LA.

an old guy would be a poor poor poor choice

Don't be so age-ist! It'd be cool to play a guy with a cane and a limp for a change! Could be like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, you sitting on your porch in Grove Street, some punk ass Balla b*tches roll up, and you could be like "Get off my lawn....." Would be a bold brave new move from R*! :pac:
