Do you have problems remembering chunks of riveting conversation as you get older?

    Not that I've noticed.

The most important thing to know about riveting conversation is not to shout out a warning when you drop one.

    No.

    I'm 40, not 70. :)

When you get to 30 your brain is full and can't hold anything anymore. Simples.

Oh and by the way he probably WASN'T listening to you.

    What was the question again?

I've so few really interesting stories that I was gutted he didn't remember this one.

He knows that you have very few interesting stories so he pretends to have no recollection of it just so you get the chance to "remind" him, what a gentleman!

Maybe he doesn't believe you. Ask your cousin to visit and get him to pull out his glass eye and show your boyfriend. I'm sure he won't forget that.

As for whether I'm getting more forgetful, I suppose I am. I watched an old episode of Horizon about memory a couple of months ago and apparently everyones memory starts to diminish at a surprisingly early age. It think it may be either 25 or 27 but I can't remember exactly. :o

EDIT - I found the Horizon episode on my computer. Your brain starts to shrink when you turn 20. When you're 27 your memory starts to fade and by the time you reach 40 you lose 10,000 brain cells a day.

“Well, you see, Norm, it’s like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

I don't entirely forget stories, but when my wife says stuff like, "Remember when I told you about so-and-so?" I often have a Dougal moment.
