The Israeli military said no one was hurt when naval commandos boarded the Irish MV Saoirse and the Canadian vessel Al-Tahrir after the captains refused repeated requests to turn around.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said in a statement last night: “My initial reaction is one of relief that there has been no violence and that all the Irish nationals aboard the MV Saoirse are safe and well following this ordeal.

“My priority and responsibility throughout this whole episode, as in relation to previous flotillas attempting to sail to Gaza, has been to ensure that no harm would come to any Irish national involved and I am relieved that this has been accomplished.”

Well, it is a legal blockade, so they were well within their rights to intercept them,.

Why is a certain section of Irish society so obsessed with Palestine and Israel, there's literally dozens of conflicts around the globe but you don't see any ships sailing to the aid of the Burmese or indigenous people in South America or the suffers of murder and rape in Africa.

What does the M stand for in MV?

Plenty of Irish aid gets to those places, and isn't blocked by 3rd party nations.

You know well that isn't the issue I was referring to.

How is a blockade in International waters without UN sanction legal ?

Is the MV Saoirse registered in Israel/stateless or something ?

The maritime blockade of Gaza was declared legal in the UN commissioned Palmer report.

They're trying to be trendy apparently.

Oh and the next time Israel bombs a bunch of kids, hopefully those who piss themselves to defend it (for attention) will keep their mouths ****ing shut.

Israel is the only place you hear excuses for barbarity.

Crackpot regimes in Darfur, Somalia, Sri lanka, etc. don't starve people to death in a WW2 style Ghetto, and then beat their critics over the head with the holocaust if they mention it..

I'd take my hat off to them if they could actually formulate a decent argument as to why Israel's hugely disproportionate defence tactics are a good thing, but until then, "I want to sock it to the hippies and look really tough and right-wing/I hate Muslims" won't wash... ;)

Pro-IRA? Wtf have they got to do with this thread. Will you also blame them if we have a bad winter this year?

You obviously missed the Good Friday agreement, weapons decommissioning, the declaration the war was over and the 2008 IMC report.

1 google search has all you need, so simple
The Sri Lankan government’s immediate reaction is simply to say this is fabrication.

I really couldn't care less. One thing I am curious about though, who's funding these 'useful idiots'?
No doubt the ships they use are probably rust buckets on the verge of getting scrapped when they buy them (an added bonus of buying a junker is that when it breaks down they can then shriek SABOTAGE! for a little extra publicity) so I'd say they get them cheap but the cost of these endevors still must run to hundreds of thousands of euro. Where's the money coming from?
I'd say that wherever it's raised, there are probably a lot of names on the list of doners that not even Sean Gallagher would take an envelope off.....
    Anybody actually know?

I once heard Israeli actions in Gaza described as Jewish Fascism.

By an Israeli who had just finished their military national service there.

Oh I certainly have sympathy for Israelis living in fear and I don't get sexually aroused by taking one side, I condemn violence across the spectrum but agree Israel has the right to defend itself, however, what's the ott disproportionate **** about?
