Looks like the real deal. There was never any way it was going to have vegas and san francisco in there as well.

I remember when the GTA IV map was found in one of the trailers. It was seen on a police boat. That took some serious spotting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭EdenHazard

you can see an outline of a map on the police car but its a brown blob and to me it looks like the southern coast of cali

Not a hope in hell it'll contain San Fierro and Las Venturas - not with the limited capabilities of this gen's tech. The PC on the other hand could shit all over it but certainly not the Xbox or PS3. We'll get them as DLC - so relax people, you'll get them eventually....if it was San Andreas, then fair point but they've gone and called it 5. So just one city and surrounding locals being rural etc.

They did it on the PS2?

Do you want a game in 2011 with comparable graphics to the PS2? PC, then yes - but not this generations consoles. The Xbox is already struggling to keep up with current games. The trench is widening again between console and PC.

Yes, I never expected the cycle for the current gen console to be so long. Not even a hit of the new ones announced yet. I'm sure the game will be fun and play well but graphically that trailer looks really dated at this stage.

    Agreed.

You'll be happy to know there has been an announcement that the Xbox720 (let's just call it that for now) will be released in 2013. So, we are in for a real treat when consoles make that jump and bridge the gap in a meaningful way with top PC technology. Microsoft are already working on it.

I really do think the 360 is on it's last legs now. For the casual gamer such as myself we could of course get many years out of it yet, but as soon as you see just whats possible on the PC, it's incredible the sheer vast difference in what is achievable. Anyone that picked up Battlefield3 recently will testify to that. On the PC, it's a totally different gaming experience.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind waiting for GTA5 until 2013 - there's so much to be getting on with in the meantime. Game developers are already working on next gen tech. We're just rounding off any loose ends at this stage.

I'd say it shopped. It wouldn't take much effort for someone to make that. A few place names, believable size and squiggly lines as roads and highways. Hey presto, GTA5 map.

Maybe I'm just in denial and holding out hope for San Fierro and Las Venturas though :(.

I hear you. See, it's fine for the majority of us, because we're mature enough to realise that it's a game. But you know as well as I do that PETA and the media would come out and be "ZOMG ZOMG!!!!!! THEY'RE TELLING OUR KIDS TO SHOOT DOGS!!!!"
Rockstar promotion team puts feet up on desk and lets PETA do it's promotion for them. Oldest trick in the book when it comes to GTA.

I presume the map is fake because: It's a bit mad that it just happens to be leaked days after the trailer (by a guy on twitter, who Im sure rockstar could easily link to his real life persona and sack him).

And also, why would it just happen to say los santos on it? And what's with the piss-poor quality? I've been taking photos for a long time. In the last few days alone I've used from professional, high end DSLRs, cheap compact cameras, and camera phones. None of them provided that special photoshopped gaussian blur-like quality that just seems to able to be captured by gamers leaking things. :P

Could be wrong, of course, but i just don't see anything official coming out about GTA unless it's from rockstar (and I should clarify, i love speculation and people saying what they'd love to see, what they'd hate to see, what they think you can or can't do or how the game plays out, etc. but it just irritates me a lot when people come barging in the forum door proclaiming employment with rockstar and knowing factual information).

According to rockstar it's just los santos and some countryside not the entire state.

Did i see somewhere that there will be fuel in the game, as in you have to get petrol when you get low? Really simple idea but will make huge difference (if its true).

I don't think it's the tech that's the problem, but rather the storage medium. Especially true with the 360 and it's use of DVD. Just look at RDR on 3 disks. I think the map and soundtrack will take up the bulk of the disk meaning there is only so much content you can put on the rest of it. I think R* would like to keep this game on one disk but that's just me.

Remember creating a GTA world on current gen consoles is so much more complex than San Andreas was on the last gen consoles. I feel creating an entire San Andreas in 360/ps3 detail would just be too much work (and more importantly for them increase the budget) and would affect the overall quality of the surroundings so one super detailed city may be a good thing.

This was in the list of claims made earlier on this thread. I reckon it'd be cool if it were true. Especially if they bring back the car mods and I do what I used to do in GTASA where I do up a car, park it in a garage, and then just use that car when I want to cruise the streets looking for hookers and stuff. Without car mods though this will be a pointless feature as it'll be far easier just to steal a car and no-one will use the petrol stations.

I think this has the potential to be an utterly amazing game.
I love the look and feel of the trailer. I will be a little dissapointed if it's only one city but I'm sure the game itself won't be a let down.

My opinion (only speculation) on the characters is that the story will play out from a couple of different angles. I'd love to see certain things happen and stories crossing that resulted in Claude, Tommy, CJ and Niko have to team together to rob somewhere. I know it's unlikely and far fetched, but I think it'd be a cool idea.

I wouldn't say that, the xbox's tech was behind the PC when it came out, it's now many generations behind there's been some big changes in tech since it came out that all the console users are losing out on.

I hope not.... TLAD my least favourite of three games (TBoGT > IV > TLAD imho). Rockstar never really reuse a character type as the main character. (not yet at least) reckon we may see cameos from the Lost MC guys, maybe a few missions for them.

Has it crossed anyone's mind that we may not see GTA5 until the launch of the next gen consoles?

Think about it. Nothing has been even so much as whispered about what platforms it is coming to. If this was really going to be on the shelves next Summer or even in time for Xmas, it would have stated 360 and PS3 as that would have been the tech they would have been working with. And with the new Xbox coming 2013, we have approximately a year and half to wait which nicely coincides with the time-line of the last GTA from the time of the first trailer to the release of the actual game itself (2006-08).

Now I know all the talk about the engine not being built for this new game but what do we really know about it? MaxPayne3 will be given full attention this upcoming year and huge amounts of money will be pushed into advertising and promotional causes for that franchise also. My guess is that Payne will be given a huge amount of breathing space before we hear anything concrete about GTA again.

And let's face it, RockStar always announce their games years in advance. MP3 we were told about years ago as well as LA Noire with the latter only being release this year having first been announced five years ago. I'm going to go out on a limb and say we won't see GTA5 up and fully operational until E3 2013 which again, coincides with the release of the next gen console.
