Ive nipped into the retro section a few times just lurking ( and cursing at myself for having sold / given away all my old consoles and games ) but today while pulling down boxes off my shelves I found something of a gem

bit of a shame I dont have a NGC or Wii to play it on.

I have a game ube but no games to play on it. Pity me and be charitable by donating the game.
There nothing like a bit of philantrophy to cleanse the soul.

    And if that doesn't work

Are you for real? Do you really have to ask? It's an absolute masterclass in game design.

Actually it's crap, see that japanese script, it really says "Army Men: Ikaruga" which is the gaming equivalent of seeing Gerard Butlers name in a movie title, pure poison...

Actually, it's great, more Kurt Russell or Dennis Quaid than Gerard Butler tbh.

Just had an uber geek moment last night. Some of you folk may appreciate it as much as I did :)

I heard Michael Biehn was going to be in the IFI promoting his new film and had a brainwave.

'Kyle Reese must sign my big shiny Terminator head!'

So I went along with the head in a bag wrapped in a towel, some sharpies and with every toe and finger I had crossed.

I was a bit freaked out seeing as it has 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' written across the thing..and you know, with him being cut and all..I thought he might have went all future war on the head. (Which in a certain light, may have been cool in itself)

We went into the IFI about eight, on the off chance he was about. I walked in there he was, on his own, leaning against a wall, downing a full glass of wine.

    'Holy ****! There's Michael Biehn!'

    'Where?!'

    'Over there!'

    'I can't see him?'

    'He's right ****ing there!!!!'

Girlfriend then sees him, we both bottle it and run away into the bar. Luckily though, I was meeting a mate of mine there who happens to collect signatures. He's hunted down an absolute shed load of famous people. So this was second nature to him.

'Ger! help! Michael Biehn is out there and we're too afraid to go anywhere near him!'

So he took us out by the hand, up to the main himself and before you know it, the head and the sharpie were both in his hands.

'Where do you want me to sign it?'

    'Oooh errr right here please'

And here we are looking like a couple of goof balls with himself -

My mate went all retro and had him sign an Aliens VHS -

    Success!

    DSC_0211-1.jpg

    DSC_0217-2.jpg

I seriously still can't believe how easy that was. Was almost going to leave the head at home as I was convinced it wouldn't happen.

Now, just need to find Edward Furlong, Linda Hamilton and Arnie!

Haha that's excellent! Maybe it's just me but it looks like Mr. Biehn is rather taken with your missus! Sky old dawg. :p

It was actually pretty funny, a moment before that she squeezed his bicep and said -

'Oh my god, I can't believe I'm squeezing the bicep of Kyle Reese!'

haha that brilliant, would love to have his autograph especially on something as cool as that. seems like a nice guy all in all, anyone see his new film yet?

We went to see the film after meeting him. Was a pretty low budget amateur romp, but was good craic. I really enjoyed the QA with himself and his wife afterwards. Seems like a really great guy.

All the questions people were asking were to do with his rejections though!

'So Michael, how did you feel about being cut out of the theatrical Terminator 2 release?'

'So Michael, how did you feel about Hicks not being in Alien 3 other than dying?'

'So Michael, how did you feel about not being in Avatar?'

I'm surpised he didn't get a metal bar and start smashing skulls :pac:

incredibly hard, not my kind of game tbh but still pretty good, a real challenge and test of skill.

Didn't find Ikaruga that tough. Once you adjust to the white/black mechanic it's not too tough. It might look like a bullet hell game but it really isn't once you start seeing in black and white. I beat it with 5 credits before and I'm no gaming god. Just takes a bit of practice.

Went to a new Sunday market in Drogheda yesterday. Was 99% awful, just your usual market rubbish but did pick up the one good thing there... Boxed MD1!

I'm not sure where it's from. The Region is PAL-I and model is 1601-11. Based on some forum/blog trawling it looks like it (i hope!) could be the second production run of MD1 and was sold in Japan and a few other asian countries, before the worldwide launch (US/UK/Eur etc) but could equally be the version that was for sale in China and the Phillipines etc but is definitely made in Japan, unlike most other MDs. Anyone know a good sega historian? I read so many conflicting reports I don't know what to believe about it.

It works perfectly and came with 2 matching controllers and a really old square power supply. Box and insert are quite tatty.

    jap_md1.jpg

Oh yeah, and it was €6!

That'd be the Asian/Hong Kong model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sparkthatbled

Thought as much, really, considering it plays my Pal games. Still a bargain and must be an early enough model since it was made in japan. All other MDs i've seen were made in China and Malaysia etc and very cheaply soldered too.

€6 is an amazing bargain! Well done! The Asian models are great as you get the best of both worlds and I also think they are 60hz not 50hz.

Fantastic to see it boxed too. Congratulations!

I remember buying that edition of Quake III when it first released. That and Kingpin were one of the very few FPS I've bought in my entire life. Great game it was though. :)

Those PAL Asian Megadrives are 50hz unfortunately. So you'd need to mod it to 60hz!

Just got a boxed yellow mario Snes console with mario allstars, boxed pilotwings, rival turf and PGA golf.
And a boxed megadrive II mega 6 pack with the the mega 6 games, sonic 2, sonic and knuckles and lion king.

All for 20 quid! No tears, bumps, marks, discolouring or anything on boxes. Sega box little worn on corners. Snes even had some of the booklets.

Yeah, I got Quake 3 and got a smashing Quake 3 tee with it, ok it's a size too small but I'll brave it for the honour of wearing it some 12 years on!
I had it on the DC as well, the first game I played online with that thing, via dial-up!
Worked well too, well, better than I thought it would.

Not really that retro but got a couple of PS2 things today.

Psyvariar - Complete Edition (PAL but luckily has a 50/60hz option)

    dsc5582y.jpg

Cheapy wireless PS2/PS1 controller (not great actually and having problems getting the joypad and receiver talking to each other)

    dsc5584r.jpg

Also got a few boring things like PS2 power supply and a composite video switch for my Commodore monitor.

Nice work with Psyvariar. Lovely game that is. Took a little getting used to the style of it though at first but you'll get immersed pretty quickly. Enjoy it. :)
