Yimrsg...thats the best balanced post I have seen on any board about COD.

I agree with most of what you say and in fairness to IW fraom what I have read they are fixing:
    - lunging with a knife from a different county
    - killstreaks to be more balanced
    - cheating will be picked up on right away

plus more because they have said that they way they have designed this game makes it easier for them to add/adapt/remove certain things easier than before.

They are also putting in a few ideas from Black Ops like Hoarde Mode (Zombie Mode) and Split Screen Online.

The thing I hated most about Black Ops was the Animation, feel of playing.
Modern Warfare Character movement is so reactive and smooth.....also shooting a gun in Black Ops was like shooting someone with a pop gun.....just wasn't like MW2.

there was something slightly off about it like BOPS was. I'm someone who thinks BOPS is a good game but missing that spark.

Agree with that, it was missing something.

Yeah, think it was the movement in black ops that was off. I know im in the minority, but i thought the sounds in black ops were great. A grenade or claymore explosion sounded realistic. In Mw2 they sounded like 2000lb bombs.

A big part of the enjoyment of online gaming is who you play with , I'm lucky to have good banter with lads from on here , RL friends and mates who i've known for years on live.
For me its about enjoying the whole experience and not just whether the game lives up to expectation or not (media hype eh :pac:)

Exactly, it's what a good 80% of my friends on PSN will be playing for weeks after release, if not months. To be fair, half the time I go on is only after one of my friends texts me or someone on Boards/Skype is hopping on, so it's partly getting the banter in with the lads as it is with playing the game (whatever game that may be).

I'll hold my final decision on the game, after I've played it for several weeks though ;)

Even if I end up hating it after a few weeks, it's still money spent well IMO, for in the 2 years I've had my playstation now I've bought the following games:
    -CoD4
    -Mw2
    -Blops
    -UC2
    -GT5
    -AC2

For the guts of €250 on games I've gotten 2 years solid entertainment, I'd spend that in 5 nights out by comparison...

BTW, you all know I probably will end up getting the game, right? I mean, reluctance to buy it is one thing..not buying it is quite another.

Many nights in the past I've reluctantly gone to the pub for a pint... :pac:

Still, I think this time I will actually wait a few weeks before getting it...if I do at all :)

How could you not be reluctant? They brought back quickscoping, heart-beat sensers and have somehow managed to make ghost even more powerful than before.......

    Assassin packed lobbies.

Very reluctant, but will pre-order it when I pick up Battlefield tomorrow.

I'm going to buy it one way or another, that's what everyone else is going to be playing so might as well .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭Klair88

Gonna buy it to bitch about it tbh, treyarch are better than IW IMO, zombies is an awesome game and the multiplayers in black ops and WAW are far superior to modern warfares,i think its full of noob-tubers and campers

I'll buy it to see as i loved the cod series till they ruined it with mw2 on the pc. I'm hoping they will have learned by their mistakes for this release

I too had been a fan of COD & MW since the early PS2(or 1) days - loved them.
However each of the newer games have just let me down as the gameplay of the single player felt like it was sacrificed for the multiplayer.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy multiplayer (or did until I moved) however my primary motivation has always been campaign mode. The last few where I have to babysit my team mates or get directed to specific spots is just a bit too much for my control freak nature.

I get they have gone more to the war sim route - just not my choice any more. Hope the rest of you enjoy it though.

Ah well - still plenty of old school shooters out there for my simple "kill-kill-kill" nature.

Reluctant but will buy it I'm certain

I'll take a rehash of MW2 over anything from Black Ops, that horrible, horrible piece of **** game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 770 ✭✭✭EIREHotspur

Do you notice how many people that answered the question "Who is reluctant to buy MW3?" by saying they are not too reluctant to buy MW3.

I think this rules out a thread on Who is Reluctant to buy DLC for MW3.

I'm going to get MW3. I know I shouldn't. COD4 was the pinnacle of the series for me. I don't think there's much of an argument that its sequels were any better. More gimmicks every game to disguise the fact that theres nothing new and more annoying things as a result.

I don't want a prestige shop, online stat tracking or weapon proficencies. I just want gun on gun with maybe 3,5,7,11 killstreaks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

Not sure what to make of this COD elite thing....sounds like they are charging extra to play the game online.

Or am I wrong? Can someone explain it to me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 249 ✭✭tonsiltickler

Elite is a free online stat tracking system(K/d, win/loss etc). It has certain features, you can get a premium version for a fee. With the premium version you get maps released by the week or month. With the free version the maps will come out in bundle packs just like they did for MW2 and BLOPS. Premium elite users get them a bit earlier too.

    I have two ps3s.
Will I be able to download the maps to the two of them using my account be it on the free or fee elite version?

There's been no confirmation as of yet for the elite version, but in the current map setup you're allowed to download your maps onto up to 5 systems that you own.

So I'll get the same maps a little bit earlier and will be able to review my ranking amongst all the players in the world?

    For fifty quid every year?

If you buy all the map packs (let's assume 4 per year) then you're getting around €60 worth of content for €50, you'll get them on an earlier release than general sales. You'll also get more HD theatre mode slots, ability to join daily competitions and have access to 'Elite TV' which is basically where they upload videos made by some well-known directors.

The only thing there interesting to me is the dlc so I think I'll give it a miss.

But I mean if you're only interested in the DLC, it'll be cheaper to get the Elite and completely ignore the other features if you so wish, and download the maps rather than buying them separately as they come out monthly.

I am buying Modern Warfare 3 but I think I will change my Hardened Edition pre-order to the standard edition. All the previous Infinity Ward DLC's have been poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,545 ✭✭✭Oafley Jones

    Two main reasons...

    1) Activision not fixing MW or WAW, despite both being on sale - along with their DLC. I'd be quite happy if they were the only two I owned (and could actually play).

    2) Slightly jaded by the whole thing.

I'm also wondering if this may ever so slightly under perform. Few of the other gaming boards I go to are relatively quiet regarding MW3. e.g. Grcade.com is only up to 20 pages so far, whereas MW2 had 5-6 times as many posts at this stage. GTAV hit about 40 pages after 3 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭hypermuse

MW3 really is MW2.1... infact its not even.. Its a huge MW2 patch.. fix the probs (commando/OMA etc etc etc) and few new maps!!

They seem to be far more focused on the gimmicks of prestige shops and COD elite than actually improving the game itself!

Really starting to think that I'm not gonna buy this game at all now tbh..
I was thinking of maybe picking it up cheaper after few weeks but being the numpty that I am I forgot I pre-ordered it and paid €5 deposit!
