Well the real cruelty here is why the kids was allowed play on the road alone.

Apparently the parents worked in a shop there and would leave the kid out all day to play on his/her own

I'd say knocking down a child and then driving away is the real cruelty tbf...

But yeah bad form from the parent anyway

To be fair, there's widespread condemnation and shock in China about this too. The woman who finally helped the child apparently got a sizeable "good citizen" reward from the local government.

So it's deeply unfair to say that this is anything to do with the Chinese or their human rights records or sexist outlook. In a country of 1.4 billion people, every so often some really fncked up things are going to happen.

And the child playing on the road, unsupervised, yeah, fine, OK. But think back to Ireland 30 years ago. Nobody would have blinked twice if there were children of local Moore St. merchants running around playing on the road. China is not a modern first-world state. The vast majority of it still quite rural and "backwards" a la Ireland of the 1960's and 70's.

Tbf, what upsets me the most about it is the fact that the child probably suffered. If the child had been knocked out or killed instantly after the initial collision, it would probably be a little less horrific.

Left for dead has turned into dead as the poor kid has since died. Seemingly if she was a boy, she would have been helped straight away but beacuse of the whole 1 child rule in China seemingly sexism is widescale albeit unspoken.

I know, that another thing is that the chinese government dictates how many children you will have and male children are perferred. There are many levels of inequality there

The truck drivers should be charged with murder, he was slowly driving along and drove over the child after seeing her, what sort of sick animals were those people.

Well, some humans are worse than animals. At least animals kill for reasons to survive for food and that's part of natures cycle but you couldn't say the same about some humans. Some of them are sick demons on two legs

Actually, the policy doesn't apply to everyone.

Well maybe it doens't apply to everyone but telling someone anyone how many children to have is wrong. It's a human right to reproduce and to have a family.

yerra tis different craic over this side of the world. if you kill someone on the road in thailand you can just pay the equivilent of maybe 2/300 euro and the death is over with. they drive like lunatics too. this video doesnt shock me too much living in asia the last while to be honest

Don't think I'll ever watch as it would upset me too much.

I'm just back from a month in China. To be honest, while much of it is incredibly beautiful/historic, I found it to be a horrible country.

A large percentage of motorists drive with little regard for human life (though I found this to be the case everywhere I went in Asia). This video is completely shocking though, obviously I never witnessed anything on this scale.

Its sad to hear she died :(
Its bloody terrible. Like fair enough if someone wants to argue and say not all of China is like that. But that part is

I mean, what kinda kip of a place is it where drivers run over little girls and no one gives a sh*t as they walk by.

That happens over here too, if the driver happens to know the right people...

I've heard about similar things happen in China.. Dead babies left lying in the streets and passers by seem in no way bothered by it. What can you say without sounding like a bit of a xenophobe? Cultural differences.. just doesn't cut it, imh.

    Nothing surprises me about them.
A while back I saw an image of a two/three year old child tied up in chains on the side of a road, while his mother was at work. This was done daily. Nobody batted an eye. I think they were all at it. And in China who would even abduct a child when they have such horiffic policy of, as another poster mentioned, forced abortion on almost full-term babies, their one child rule and a sickening preference for boys over girl babies.

And to think that the rest of the world has enabled their economy by purchasing everything Chinese, where everything can be reproduced/faked, even Colgate toothpaste, at the expense of our own western (so-called)civilised societies and economies. To reference David Mc Williams on last night's Big Interview we need to devalue our currency as The East did in order to capatalise on foreign export and import.
The West unwittingly created its own downfall and the rest are scoffing at its collapse.
Indirectly you can't help but wind up with Chinese goods...but I'll save my opinions on what you can avoid buying for another long day...

    A very tragic event.

    Rest in peace little girl

The point was made on 'The Last Word' on Today FM today, that this kind of thing is not just limited to China.

A few years back, roma immigrant children were washed up on a beach in Italy. Yet their bodies did not detour the sunbathers enjoying their day at the sea.

    Horrific.

I can't understand anyone walking past something like that. Those people don't seem human.

    RIP sweetheart.

I didn't think anything would surprise me about the Chinese, this is the race that skin dogs alive to make boots after all, but what happened that poor child is disgusting. You can analyse it all you want but there is no excuse. I hope the people who didn't stop to help her never have a peaceful nights sleep again.

I'd imagine they are able to sleep fine. They were not even shocked by it. Anyone that was shocked would be having nightmares. :(

It really is a shocking state of affairs when a little girl can lay bleeding to death and people just walk on by.

They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Am truly sickened anyone could just leave a helpless little child suffering like that.

What exactly is the story with the one-child policy? It says in one of the articles the little girl had a brother.

In a similar vein, this elderly man was knocked down in broad daylight and many just passed by -- madness.
